The SimCity 5 Thread (Formerly "Is SimCity 5 Ever Coming Out?").
nPr replied to xterra09's topic in City-Building Games
If you know Tropico 3, it is somewhat a realistic kind of city-building simulation (with an added political angle that is). It uses a very nice 3D engine which could zoom out quite far and close in to near the streets (almost ground level), with considerably good amount of details. It has generally favourable reviews, so the idea of a SimCity 5 with full 3D engine is realistic, especially if the game is released in the next 5 to 10 years. I'm not expecting it to be in development anytime soon. P.S. While I do agree that you shouldn't be able to go to war for a city-building game, it sounds fun if you could add it as an event just to make things more realistic. -
Could you try to go here and see what happens? https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/files/go/026d2b190c9697bd5b41b11cdac2ad18/armor-pack or https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/files/go/37cd76d9f202270e6db5be6c891bff7f/uniform-street-lighting-mod I always get the same "[#10850.2] An internal error occurred. Please contact an administrator" message with every download using my home network, including these two posted.<div><br></div><div>P.S. I already sent an email about this problem some days ago.</div>

I just tried downloading with the school internet, and guess what? It downloaded with no problem! But back home, the problem persisted. There's something wrong here
-
That's weird because I have always unchecked the "Ask where to save each file before downloading", yet I'm still encountering the exact same problem. I'm using Google Chrome for your information.

Don't get me wrong, but I use MAX because it cuts down the rendering time by A LOT than if I use gmax. Anyway, I'm not really making a building, but rather an airport runway, so I it takes a LONG time to render if I use gmax (like 6+ hours). With MAX, I could cut that time to only 1 hour at most, plus there is a bit of anti-aliasing.

The reason is that truNite, as you have explained, the building would jump straight from day to night view instead the whole dusk routine. Personally, I just don't really like that. And I already tried a simple test which involves only a simple box and an omni light with the prefix "nitelite_". The nitelite, however, is still seen turned on in the day preview, instead of off, even with the prefix. And the error still exist too. And I'm using 3ds Max 2011 Student version.

Hi SimFox, why do I always get the 'Error Failed! Code=6' message whenever I do the normal export (like those in gmax) with night lights? I tried the normal day export without night lights and the export went fine.

Uh... now I'm having trouble inserting & compressing... Could you please indicate clearly what must I do? I'm lost at the moment. There are so many files in the Output folder. Which of those must I insert & compress?

Hi SimFox, sorry to bother you, but every time I did a truNite export, the night FSHs does not seem to be inserted to the SC4model at all. I've confirmed this after using the Reader and checked the instances. None of the FSHs contain the instances with "8" as the fifth digit. This is really weird since I've did everything as instructed, and the day render was perfectly fine. I was using the BAT4MAX ver 4.5 with the ver 4.6 update, along with 3ds Max 2011 (Student version). And I do have spaces in the installation path (E:\Autodesk\3ds Max 2011). Reason was that if I installed 3ds Max under a different folder name (e.g "3ds_Max_2011" instead of the default"3ds Max 2011), Max just refuses to run (there's an error). I really hope that you would be able solve this problem (otherwise I might have to go back to gmax).
