IDS2 read my mind, the design looks un-natural and the textures need tweaking, however your modeling seems to have improved which is good.

IDS: I never knew it needed so much done, but I will try my best to improve everything, I seen a building like this in sc4, so I made one similar, but Frex_Ceafus style, it is W2W, and I think it fits that. Thanks for all the critism though, because without out it, I will never get any better :D

Harishna: :D Alright, I am glad to here its inproved :D

Harishna:  Congrats on the 600th post in here, I appriciate everything you and everyone else has done for me in my 11 months on ST

I like the apartments, however even if you were going w2w, I would add some windows to the side. Then it could feasibly be w2w or standalone, especially if somebody wanted to put some parking lots around it or an alley or something(plus those poor sims could get a bit of light into their apartments) :)

I actually think the grass is fine, most grass is pretty hardy and wouldn't necessarily have problems growing there, plus it adds a nice bit of green space for the residents and for the streetscape if it is w2w.

One thing you might consider is making the area above the door on the upper floors come out to meet the edge of the balcony. It would help sell the idea that there is a stairwell there and make it visually differ from the apartment windows and also help separate the balcony areas of the separate apartments. Then make the windows on said area larger for the stairwell. This would also help separate that area from the individual apartment windows.

No matter what you decide, I am looking forward to seeing your progress on this, it is an interesting building and could fit nicely into a lot of different scenarios if done right. Good luck!

Utvaw: Thanks, I like the grass being there too, I will add windows, and work on roof junk. :)

While I work on the apartments and on my house, I made a few side projects for the heck of it while I was bored.

Wow, I dig that billboard thingy! It's just the amount of detail that's needed to make such stuff interesting to look at. I'm not sure what the poor Sims do once they reach the upper end of the ladder, though... :D Anyway, I'd really love to see this one finished. Some nice textures, and maybe some variations, and then a single lot on which one of these variations appears randomly - that should be quite a useful upload! I could help with the modding part if required. ;)

Billboard looks excellent! Most of the billboards on the STEX are just boxes and poles, so this is nice to see. Only thing I worry about is that the center column might be a bit wide, and the ads themselves look a tad stretched. The gazebo thing looks really nice, maybe a little saturated but I really like the design. The radio tower is solid as well, just be sure to add some guy wires!

Your stuff is starting to get quite good.

Modelling is on track, now it's time to focus on improving your texturing skills.

The hut needs a serious overhaul, all of the textures are either too saturated or far too dark. Try editing them so that details are still visible in shaded areas.

Thanks Everyone! Been kinda busy with my birthday, thanksgivin, and family, so havent really worked on much, but I will finish these in the future.

There is 1 type of BATTING I have always wanted to learn, ever since I started, and that is make row houses, and apartments, I have spent hours in 3ds max, and gmax trying, and now i thought this would be the appropriate time to reach out to the community for some help. Will you guys help me learn this?

Well, the question is what exactly you need to learn?

If you have questions concerning modeling techniques (such as polygon modeling), then these apply to pretty much everything you might be BATting, and you should find 3dsmax tutorials on the web. Remember that it's not necessary to look for BAT-related tutorials at all. If you can model an AK-47 by means of poly modeling, for example, you will also be able to apply the same technique to building a rowhouse.

On the other hand, if you are already able to create the shapes and objects you need in 3dsmax, the rest really is good and thorough observation and measuring, no rocket science. :) If you make a few recreations of a suitable real-life building, you should have some pointers as to what's typical and realistic. Then, as soon as you have gathered enough information, you might be able to mix and match these real-life elements to create purely ficticious buildings that will look realistic nonetheless.

Unfortunately, I'm neither familiar with 3dsmax nor with American W2W architecture, but I'll keep popping in and see if I can post something helpful.

Exactly, the question is pretty elusive..you can already model and you know what a row house looks like so what exactly is the question. Maybe attempt a building and post the progress and people can assist?

Besides adjusting your textures to reduce the stretch effect you can also go to the bitmap parameters under mat editor and the reduce the blur from 1.0 to something like 0.1 and change filtering to summed for the ad texture.

This is probably your best work so far, well done!

Harishna: Thank You alot! :D I will fix these, and I have a scale question, would this look more realsitic to be small on a 1x1 lot, or big enough to have to go on a 2x2 lot?

You have the model, you have the Lot Editor, you have the game - what are you waiting for? ;)

You can also be lazy and simply photoshop a zoom 5 preview screenshot of your BAT into a zoom 5 SimCity screenshot (preferably full of Maxis content). This should give you an idea of scale, colour hue, saturation, and other things.

I may be lazy, naw, I will make a test export. :P

There's nothing wrong about being lazy as long as you get along. :P Seriously, that method I mentioned works well enough and can be a huge time saver if you have a complex BAT that takes hours to export. For example, 5 hours export time to see the colours are oversaturated compared to the Maxis colour palette? Meh, maybe that 5-minute image editing trick doesn't sound so bad after all. ;)

In this case, however, I guess we're talking about tolerable export times.
