BAT4Max v.5

OK. I tried reinstalling 3ds max and bat4max v5 fresh and I'm still getting the same problem: the TB2_CameraRig.max scene will not open. I don't know if there's a problem with the .mzp file or what. Is there a way to uninstall the bat4max without uninstalling 3ds max? I'd like to try again with v4.5 and see if that fixes it. I noticed bat4max checks for previous installations... i wonder if that will work with going to a previous version or if I'll have to go through the whole process again?

It's really strange, I have tried every configuration listed and nothing seems to fix the corruption problem.

I am having an issue exporting the Sc4Model!!!

I get the following error: --No "Flush" function for undefined

errorlcq.jpg

I've tried to install the Bat4max but I get this error after the first pop-up:

errordo.jpg

I'm using the 2010 (64-bits) version on Windows 7

run 3dsmax as administrator should fix the problem

Well, I'm completely stuck here. I've tried everything I can think of, but nothing gets rid of the 'couldn't find camera "z5"' and I can't open up the TB2_CameraLightRig.max at all. The file fails to open.

I managed to save a new scene with that name, but it didn't have any cameras at all after saving...

I've reinstalled 3ds max, BAT4MAX v5 numerous times. I would love some help on this...

OK, so I managed to get a new TB2_CameraLightRig.max file saved, but it doesn't have a camera or light rig attached. Is there some way to just set up the default and save it that way? I think this may work.

Sorry I'm such a $%&^! at this...

You shouldn't need to do any of this, if you literally follow the instructions you shouldn't get an issue.

You need to use the LTBL rollout and select day, this will set the camera rig you need. No need to save camera rigs are anything.

Well, I DID follow the instructions. Installed 3ds MAx fresh, installed BAT4MAX first thing. It doesn't matter which setting button I push on the rollout, day, maxis nite or truenite, it gives me the "couldn't find camera z5" error. That is with a brand new install.

I mean, the instructions are not difficult... run the script, restart...

And, then when I go to try opening the TB2_CameraLightRig.max file, it fails to open... which makes me thing that file is the whole problem, maybe it's corrupted or something?

I should also add that when I open a brand new scene and try to set LTBL, I check the File>Xref Scene and the file path is in red...

I had the same problem. I just kept on going to the folders and disabling UAC for every relevant folder in as many different menus as I could (there's more than one place in Windows 7 for those settings) and somewhere along the way I got it right and BAT4Max ran smoothly.

yeah, there's definitely a problem somewhere.

Where does it think the camera rig should be, and where is it actually installed?

Well, it seems like it kept alternating between looking in the root folder with one installation and then looking in the \program files with another. Again, the issue seemed to be with the .max file itself because even when I pointed it in the right direction, it would still not find the cameras and when I tried to open the light rig .max file, there was a 'failure to open file' error.

So, I downloaded the files themselves from BAT4MAX v4.5 and replaced (overwrote) the TB2_CameraLightRig.max file in the correct folder. Now it seems to be working, although whenever I preview render a scene now, It doesn't seem to give me a black, night background. The process works, but I'm not sure what the preview result is supposed to look like, so I can't tell if it's working completely. I have some areas that are semi-transparent and self-illuminating and they don't appear to be lighting up. Is the DarkNite preview render supposed to show the objects against a black background with the lights on?

Rottenart: When you press the darknite button the background will get darker and the building itself will be darker. But it won't turn any lights on for you, you have to turn your lights on and off by yourself. Since your camera rig was corrupt, try completely redownloading and reinstalling all of BAT4max. 3ds Max itself sounds like it's fine though.

MeganiumLover7: I responded to your post. And in general when no one responds it's usually because no one knows the answer, not because anyone is ignoring you.

I found the solution... I now know what you meant with: "run as administrator".

You need to right-click on the icon of 3dsMax in your start-menu and choose: run as administrator

When you run the script, it works just fine :thumb:

You mean once the preview is already rendered or before I render it? I'll open it up and take a screen shot to show what's happening...

Also, when you say turn the lights on myself, does that apply to self-illuminating materials too? shouldn't they just glow by

themselves?

Once a preview is rendered it's rendered, and it won't change. If you do a day render and you want to see a night render, you'll have to press the night button and do a new render.

The self illuminated materials will always glow. If you leave the self illumination enabled, and change the scene from day to night and from night to day, the material will be self illuminating during all the renders (it will be harder to see during the day though). So you'll need to turn everything on for night renders and off for day renders. These settings are independent from one another.

My thoughts exactly. Ending every sentence you make with '!!!!!' is also considered rude on most forums.

Slow down and take the time to absorb things before getting all flustered or frustrated.

Sorry to be a pain but I'm having problems getting BAT4Max to work.

I think the problem is possibly that I have a non-standard Gmax installation (D:\gmax) but reinstalling gmax is an absolute pain and I would rather not have to resort to that if at all possible.

Whwn I try to get a preview render, it comes up with a Unknown Class, no stand-in: SuperID= (there follows loads of hex codes that I doubt mean much but I'll happily quote them if that helps). It then comes up with a dialogue box titled 'Missing DLLs' with the following:

FileName: mentalray_plugins.dlo Class: Arch & Design (mi) SuperClass: 0xc00

FileName: ctrl.dlc Class: MasterLayerControlManager SuperClass:0x900f

FileName: BitmapProxies.dlu Class: SuperClass: 0xBX0

FileName: BitmapProxies.dlu Class: SuperClass: 0x900F

FileName: Built-in Class: Layer Manager SuperClass: 0x200

It then comes up with a dialogue box saying 'Couldn't find camera z5' (or whatever zoom level I try to select).

Can this be resolved by installing BAT4MAX manually rather than the auto script? I'm happy to copy files to where they should be if needs be.

I am using Max v8, old I know but it works fine for what I use it for and doesn't guzzle memory like the newer versions.

I can do a standard render with Max fine using the default settings under Rendering > Render Scene. It's just the SC4 camlightrig that isn't in the right place (for my non-standard GMAX install) I hope.

Many thanks, much appreciated!

Gary

Excuse both the off-topic and me not being able to help you because I don't BAT, but do I read that correctly? GaryReggae? The GaryReggae? The one who used to make all those British low-wealth residential towers back then? :golly:

Yes, 'tis me! I've just got back into BAT and want to try and actually finish some stuff (although I've said that several times before so don't quote me on that!). It's been a long time but I have a few British style buildings under construction, mainly shops.

I've been getting increasingly concerned about the fact that GMAX is a proprietary and legacy format and that I should consider moving to a more sustainable format, hence the move to 3DS (plus the rendering works a lot better).

Welcome back. :)

The missing .dlls are because it's trying to find things that don't exist in your version of 3ds Max. For example, the Arch & Design material type was introduced in Max 9 (it's too bad, you're one version off from most of the good features). I don't think this should affect anything too much.

Yeah, gmax is supposed to be installed in C because that's where the BAT4Max installer expects it to be, not because there's anything special about that spot. You can manually move the gmax stuff and everything should work fine. :)

Thanks for your reply. I've copied the contents of D:\Gmax (where I installed it to originally) to c:\Gmax but it still doesn't like something. I've looked in Scene XRef and it's pointing to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3dsMax8\gamepacks\BAT\scenes\CamLightRigs\TB2_CameraLightRig.max. That file is there but it won't let me open it in Max (it comes up with the error messages I mentioned before). Is there anything else I can try or do I need to upgrade to a newer version of Max?

Thanks again!

Gary

No I mean you need to leave gmax where you installed it, and you need to move the gmax related contents of BAT4Max to where it belongs in your own gmax installation. If you want to move gmax itself you have to install it and reinstall it.

Your problem sounds similar to rottenart's from a few days ago though.

Ah thanks, I will try that later. You are definitely right that the problem is similar to Rottenart's. I thought I'd read that before I posted but somehow I missed it. Like Rottenart, I cannot open the cam light rig MAX file so if copying the BAT4MAX files to my Gmax folders doesn't work then I'll try replacing that file.
