I used to have a much wider range of interests back in high school and college: I liked cars, sports (football in particular), video games, exercising, I did a little cooking, reading, writing, drawing, etc, but as I've gotten older and large chunks of my time and money end up being spoken for, I can no longer maintain such interests. It became clear as I was about to graduate from college that I would be better served by getting into one hobby rather than having a dozen or so shallow ones, so I picked what I enjoyed the most (and would be the most cost effective). So, I have focused on two things: writing and comic books. Unfortunately, it's difficult to get comics in Japan (well, the American comics I like), so I save some money to use when I go back from time to time to buy some. And by "some," I mean "hundreds of dollars worth." So, I am a bit of a comic book connoisseur.

Well, I'm going to go play with radiation now.

I've got a lab for my nuclear physics course. The most dangerous thing there is probably the quite heavy and angled lead shielding.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

My cousin did a study abroad here in Japan at a place that had an ion cannon testing lab, as well as several other sinister-sounding, super-villain types of facilities that make me kind of regret not becoming an engineer.

The college I went to (Manhattan College) apparently has a small deactivated nuclear reactor in the basement of their engineering building. They used to offer nuclear engineering classes. But the story goes that Columbia University, also in New York City, wanted to put in a reactor of their own for teaching classes, and the city wouldn't let them because they were concerned about having a reactor operating in the middle of New York City. The folks at Columbia then pointed out that they were already allowing Manhattan College to do so, and the city's response was to revoke Manhattan's permit and make them shut their reactor down.

Seeing as the nuclear physics department of my university is 3 kilometers from Parliament House, we'd probably be forbidden from having a nuclear reactor even if they could be built in Australia (well, aside from OPAL, but that's a special case). Particle accelerators, however, are allowed.

Nuclear physics sounds interesting but not my cup of tea.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

Once we get to 10,000, we start over from 1 and go for another 10,000. Simple. Remember, this is already the second of these threads.

Once we get to 10,000 posts, do we just stop there? Or is it cool to come back and congratulate ourselves for achieving this admittedly very arbitrary and pointless goal?

Well considering the threads are more high tech now, it can continue without bug issues, maybe even start at 1 again in this thread :P

I saw some pictures from the strategy game Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun and I really have to play it :)

"If you try to please everybody, you often times end up pleasing nobody, especially yourself. When somebody offers to do a favor for free, like making a mod for SimCity 4, you shouldn't be overly critical of something generously given to you. In other words, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth." - Twilight Sparkle after playing SimCity

A few don't make any sense like I never understood why San Diego is the Chargers and padres or the Jets being in new york and not where Boeing is.
