I know that they've gotten typhoon-induced raining up in Hokkaido (we're going to have our fourth straight day of rain tomorrow here), but I don't think they are experiencing much flooding. Mie prefecture, near where the storm made landfall, looks like a big, muddy lake. We had a flood warning here Wednesday night into Thursday morning, and the rivers are all swollen. Driving up through Tokyo today, all the rivers were high, and we're a couple hundred miles away from where they're REALLY getting rain. 2011 really has it in for the Japanese for some reason...

New York City itself is not particularly prone to flooding since there aren't too many large streams. But plenty of flooding in outlying areas (especially New Jersey, where the joke is that the river floods if you spit in it).

Oh? I thought a lot of it seemed pretty close to sea level. I would have thought the Hudson rising a few metres would at least flood a bit of the city.

It would, but the Hudson is mostly tidal, as are all the other waterways around the city. As such, rain doesn't make them rise.

No, this was a separate thing. After that incident we changed the way posts are deleted so they are easier to restore, but it seems it can cause numbers to go a bit strange.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

For whatever reason, I find the drifting in Mario Kart far more difficult to control than the power sliding in Crash Team Racing.

What contoller did you use? I use the Wiimote, and I don't have any trouble with drifting. The pros use the GameCube controller, but that seems like it would be hard to steer with, to mee.

EDIT: *me*

Baby Mario - my rival. I have no idea why, maybe it was a tragic accident involving his under-aged driving, but I hate him. H-A-T-E :P

GameCube controller, of course. Steering isn't difficult and I don't see how it would be.

My problem I think simply comes from that it works differently. In Crash Team Racing, you press R1 to jump. If you keep holding R1 down and make a turn, you start sliding when you land. You then just need to wait for the turbo meter to turn red and hit L1 to get a boost.

In Mario Kart you don't make a short hop before you drift, you just start drifting. And you turn more sharply while doing so compared to sliding in CTR. I practiced and got good with kart racing on CTR and no matter how much Mario Kart I play, I keep finding that these differences throw off my groove.

Actually, In MKWii, you do make a small hop before you drift.

Barely.

It has a very different feel to it regardless.

Some of that may be a consequence of using a GC controller as opposed to a Playstation controller.

I just got back from my first midsemester exam. It started about 2 hours earlier than I thought it was, a fact I realised about an hour before it started.

It's still going, I just finished an hour early, checked my working, and handed it in.

Now, I am defiantly not a large guy, but when someone at Burgerfuel gives me a challenge Im not going to turn them down.

Usually, burgers have a 1/3 pound 100% ground beef, no preservatives, with herbs and spices, plus what ever else is on them, I usually get one with a patty, bacon, avocado, brie, salad, aioli and tomato relish, which is usually a really filling meal by the time you add spud fries and aioli (best aioli ever). But, every month or so they have specials, this month they have the "Greedy Bastard". This consists of 2 patties, 2 slices of cheddar cheese, bacon, avocado, mango pieces, beetroot, salad, aioli and tomato relish. However, tonight the guys behind the counter were really bored, and they got talking saying that they would really like to see someone add another beef patty to their burger, naturally I had to say yes.

So tonight, I had three patties in my burger, totaling 1 pound of pure beef, and my God was it awesome :D It was about 12cm high, with a diameter of about the same.

I think I need to go lie down now...

Has anyone ever had a bigger burger than that? Factoring in the additional ingredients also.
