To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Nobody in college over here would generically call a class "math" (we don't pluralize it, either), we'd be more specific. Usually this means "calculus", or "calc" for short.

And here, the ANU is most certainly a university, not a college. It contains colleges and schools though, for example, the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and the School of Music. High schools can also be called colleges - mine was.

Astro, in the US (at least) "college" and "university" are basically used interchangeably. (At least, from what I've seen.) Although, I did apply to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences within each University I applied to, so I suppose colleges are just what make up a university..at least here, of course. Anyways, when Duke said "college" he did (most likely) just mean uni.

Here, university means higher level of learning (engineering, doctor etc) and college offers more courses for trades.

MATH2305 - Differential Equations and Applications, if you prefer, then.

I don't know how common this is in general, but at Manhattan College, the Differential Equations class was commonly abbreviated "DIFF EQS" on forms and whatnot... and when we spoke about the class we pronounced that abbreviation literally, so it was called "diffy cues".

in the US (at least) "college" and "university" are basically used interchangeably. (At least, from what I've seen.) Although, I did apply to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences within each University I applied to, so I suppose colleges are just what make up a university..at least here, of course. Anyways, when Duke said "college" he did (most likely) just mean uni.

Indeed, nobody in the US would ever say that they're "going to university", it's "going to college". Some schools use "college" in their name, others use "university"... generally, if they're using "college", they're probably a relatively small, relatively local school, whereas if they're using "university", they're probably a relatively large school that draws students from all over the country. Although, there are exceptions. The City University of New York (CUNY), a public university run by the City of New York, is decidedly small and decidedly local, but calls itself a "university" anyway, at least officially. Colloquially, it's often referred to as "city college". And... there's a bit of a stigma associated with it, because it's generally assumed (and this is in most cases true) that someone who goes to city college is either too poor to afford a private school or too stupid to get into one.

As for subdivisions within the institution, that varies. A "university" is probably going to be made up of various "colleges" of this and that, though it may also be "schools" of this and that... and it can even vary within the same institution. I know my sister is in NYU (New York University) college of arts and sciences, but NYU also has the NYU school of business. At Manhattan College, I was in the "school" of engineering, "department" of civil and environmental engineering - and the other "schools" were named similarly.

The US just has a habit of naming things differently all around, including in government. What most English-speaking countries would call a "ministry", headed by a "minister", we call a "department", headed by a "secretary".

Well the way it works at my Uni is pretty simple. We have the University, then within that there are Faculties (such as Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics), Schools by themselves (School of Physics) and then schools within faculties (School of Civil and Resource Engineering within the Engineering faculty). The colleges are residential dorms (Saint George's College, Saint Thomas etc)

We also use the coding method for units. So mathematics is MATH#AAA where # is the number referring to what year the unit applies to (1 for first, 2 for second etc)and AAA is just a random code. Or Civil engineering units are CIVL#AAA

So I got an email telling me that one of the schools (college, uni, etc..) I applied to knows now how much money they're gonna give me. But rather then tell me in the email, I have to go check their site. I figure I'll go do that.

I honestly don't understand why everyone loves Portal so much. It's a mediocre game at best.

I mean, it attempts to be an action game, but it fails horribly. For all of the running and jumping around, and even having a gun (in a sense), you never actually get to shoot anything or blow anything up, which is a major letdown. The nature of the game makes you expect to cause death and destruction, but then doesn't deliver. So, boo.

Not that I dislike puzzle games, but a good puzzle game should play like a puzzle game, not masquerade as an FPS.
