About 1,050 words done on the interim report. I'll try and get it up to around 2,000 by the time I hand it in tomorrow. It has been stressed that it doesn't need to be perfect.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

This is why I think anyone who chooses to live in Florida year-round is out of their mind.

So what are you supposed to do pack up and leave everything behind?

Well, I say that from the perspective of someone from up north. A lot of people around here move to Florida when they retire. I think they're nuts for choosing to make such a move. If you were born there, however, the choice has already been made for you...

I especially don't understand why beachfront property in Florida is so valuable. Everyone seems to look at that and just see "beautiful ocean view". I look at it and see "only a matter of time until a storm surge wrecks your house". I'd much rather live on the high ground than on the beach. Safer up there.

Supply and demand - that is what pushes up property prices.

You know you're strange when you put a poor weather-related pun in a paper about Bose-Einstein condensates. It was part of an analogy between bosons and clouds.

Thats marketing. Real estate developers know that there is a market for people who think that its better to live near the ocean, they know they can push up prices because of this pulling factor. They can get return on their investments, and so employ marketers who will sell this space as luxurious, 5 meters from the beach, Ocean views etc. People don't need to know about impending doom, people don't want to know about it either, so they don't get told about it. They are also willing to spend insane amounts of money on a view.

Having said that, these is possibility for potential destruction and devastation anywhere on the earth, my as well live somewhere nice before it happens :P

I now have the urge to travel to some Florida beachfront property with a giant sign showing a hurricane destroying homes on the beach. Maybe caption it with something like, "Was that outrageous price worth it?" Cause a nice little crash in the housing market there, and then buy me a beachside house real cheap. Anyone wanna help out? :P

    Yes, this is kitty.

Don't crash the housing market! Unless of course you fix it afterward :P

Notice how similar 2011 and 2005 are for Gulf of Mexico temperatures and Carib. Sea. temperatures. 2010 had most of it's storms strengthen in the mid-Atlantic while 2005 had most of it's storms strengthen in the Caribbean Sea and GoM. Might be a sign of what to come!
