Probably going to be released on Christmas Eve if all goes to plan. I already have a script to get city population/funds, but I still need to iron out some bugs.

I'm interested, though I don't like having my stuff deleted, recoverable or not.

Also, I play LHD and the movement seems to be to make it RHD-only.

And can anyone say Page Flip Bug?

hello guys!

I'm out of game.

You can obliterate my city.

Motive?

I'm create ( copy ), a version of game with my friends.

With modfications (like less plug-ins and more).

Like the original game, the "SC4MultiBR" is a sucess!

link for the game [link=http://www.orkut.com.br/Main#CommMsgs?cmm=791789&tid=5536847902807957062&na=1&nst=1]HERE[/link]

What tree mod are we using?

I ask because it's currently broken. When I try to plant trees, they all show up as brown boxes. Querying the trees gets "Changeable Decidious Trees" (or something similar).

Edit: Turns out that the plugins in my Program Files Plugin folder were conflicting with the stuff from the multiplayer. Removing plugins from my "Program Files" Plugin folder solved the issue.

...Er, can we perhaps change the god mode tree controller to one of C.P.'s? 9.gif I think his looks nicer than the Maxis defaults

Also, the terrain files being used (cpt_no1) are [old and outdated]. I replaced them with cpt_no3 and cpt_no4, and left a note.

Edit again: One more thing, how about adding a seawall set and a embankment set? Like [Marrast's] and [Mas71's]? (One is for walls on the water, and the other is walls to hold up hills)

I like the idea of a multiplayer SimCity. However, there may be some issues with the current implementation that could be otherwise prevented with an implementation I've been working on for a little while now.

  • No file locking. If two or more people are playing the same city at the same time, their saves will overwrite each other's.
  • Total destruction. Just because someone is told not to do something doesn't mean they won't do it. Trolls would love to overwrite every tile available with a blank tile or, better yet, corrupt it.
  • Corruption of savegames. What would happen if a game was corrupted during/after a save? That entire city will be gone and implayable.
  • No logs. Or at least, I don't believe Dropbox offers them.
  • Synchronization?
A better implementation would involve the use of a SimCity-loadable DLL, a tracking process, and a database server for logging and session tracking. Basically, here's how the sequence of a game would go:
  1. Have a UserDir for the game files with the DLL in it.
  2. The DLL launches the tracking process.
  3. The tracking process logs into the database server with a username and password the user is given.
  4. The tracking process asks the server if they are banned. If not:
  5. The tracking process asks the server if there are any open slots. If there are:
  6. Download any added plugins and remove excessive plugins the user added to their userdir.
  7. The open slots are listed and the user selects a slot to take.
  8. The game will load. The user can save any city at any time, though their session will only last 15 minutes (unless nobody else is waiting) and the program will only send changes made to their assigned city.
  9. Two minutes left. Alert the user if someone's waiting.
  10. 15 minutes expire/player leaves. Did the population grow?
    1. No. Discard all changes and alert the user.
    2. Yes. Send all changes to the server.
  11. Is someone waiting?
    1. No. Continue on.
    2. Yes. Kill the process, regardless if they saved or not.
I just need some C++ to unpack and parse the packed savegames, which I could ask wouanagaine for in the form of some Python and convert it myself. But anyways, this is an excellent idea nevertheless, and the current implementation seems to be doing fine. I hope I don't sound like a smartass quote>

The final part wouldn't be very effective. I designed the "SC4 Multi" system. Often times cities are loaded just to be renamed or a utility is added to serve several cities at once or connected roads or railroads are dragged across

empty tiles to provide access to different cities, but these don't add anything to the population...thus... you'll be negating several changes that have been made... Also even for cities that are owned by mayors and have a population, what if during the 15 minutes they destroy a section of their town to implement a new highway which would destroy homes, or a massive park or a redesigned district that would remodel an entire area that might have been denser at one time and didnt fully have the time to develope? this means that all of these changes would also be negated because technically the population would have DECREASED.

Has this region been converted into a CJ yet? I keep seeing the topic and hoping to view pictures but all the previous comments are about "joining"

I think this multiplayer thing is done... I just checked my Dropbox account online and all the folders seem empty. Plus, the guy who started it hasn't been active for the past 6 months or so.

I still have a copy of all the cities and plugins on my old computer (from before the reset that was slated to occur early 2011 according to the Steam community page), so if you want I can take some pictures and post them in this thread.

We should reboot this, seeing as i just now found out about it and think it sounds sweet! And incorporate government of sorts. Whoever is in charge will be like the county governor, and will delegate cities to new people. People should have to apply to get medium density residential/commercial. Apply for annexations. Someone who likes the RHW a lot could build an interstate highway system for all the cities to attach to as they wish. There's a lot we could do to make this kinda realistic as far as growth restrictions and such. Any other ideas?

I don't really know how this Dropbox works but wouldn't the better option be to have one person at a time onto it then reupload it? There could be votes on who continues etc...

To begin: Just got to get ONE person to make a config then upload the region

(This could breach some sort of rule that says you can not upload "cities")

Some guy on Reddit is starting a new one and i bet you can join if you want. I'm testing out one of the maxis regions right now to see if i can figure out how to make it work on the Dropbox thing.

My brother and I have been playing the same region "multiplayer" for awhile now, but we are using SugarSync. It works similar to dropbox except it seems better suited for this as you don't need to create virtual directories or edit game parameters.

Once installed you can just right click on any folder and choose to share it. Two people signed into the same account will have files in that folder updated in real time.

I was here before, it didn't turn out too well. The world broke really fast by people deleting their cities or messing with the land badly. I was one who accedently deleted the whole city when I wanted to restart my town.... but hey look, op is a Miyafuji as well! Anyways, if there is one up, please contact us :D

This seems like it would be an awesome experience, but my internet only allows for a limited amount of data to be downloaded each month, in addition to the fact that it is TERRIBLY slow by city standards (the speed ranges from 10kbps to at the best ~120kbps, which, when compared to the other options available to me, is quite fast.) Still, I can hope that a better internet service provider will start offering in my area.

Can I join? I have a couple of things you might like to see.

The city lay red...
Flaming and broken...

Then he exited to region, reloaded, and it was fine.

Anotaro.it, unfortunately this post is well past 2 years old so I highly doubt it is still active.

You are welcome to start your own version of it however. I would recommend a new thread to avoid confusion with this.

If there is anything I can do for you, let me know.
