I really think this topic is about motion pictures, not news clips.

One should be aware that if it is a full length feature on u-tube or other media site that it should not be posted as a media item.  These things take too long to load.

Out of curiosity, who posted a full length movie here?  The longest vid I've seen is about 4.5 minutes long.

Network is a motion picture from 1976 directed by Sidney Lumet and written by Paddy Chayefsky. It won 4 Oscars and is in the IMDB top 250 (and rightly so). It was a very impressive movie when I saw it.

(Also, as far as I know, the length of a Youtube-clip doesn't influence the loading time of a page? To me it seems logical that only the player is loaded. The clip is only loaded when you actually click it.)

pretty good wrap up of the series.

Paul Walker of Fast & Furious fame has died in a horrific car crash in Santa Clarita just north of Los Angeles.  Check his Facebook and Twitter accounts for more details.  I found about it at Rotten Tomatoes in the forums.  He was 40 years old and was not driving the vehicle.

He was on the way back from a charity event he set up.  It's too bad, I think he was one of the most likeable actors in Hollywood, and most of what I've seen him in I've liked.  Even have Deep Blue on DVD (that was a good movie, and more than just for Jessica Alba in a bikini the whole time).

Since it's December now, I'm ready to bring out the Christmas movies. My all-time favorite is A Christmas Story (1983); I also like others such as Elf (2003) and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (1964)

I still stick with A Christmas Carol with Alister Sim (the original, not the updated, colourized version).  Horror flicks go much better in black and white.  Really good music by Adinsell.

This may not be A Christmas movie but since it was November,I really like V for Vendetta cause it tells you that the government might be keeping secrets away from the public.

The thing that bothers me about the whole V for Vendetta thing is the Guy Fawkes mask.  That dude was not interested in anybody's freedom, he was a hardcore Catholic who supported the Spanish crown and was totally cool with the Inquisition.  Seems like a bad idea to use that guy as your symbol of freedom.

Anyways, best Christmas movie of all time is Die Hard, and a close second was Die Hard 2: Die Harder.  This is not up for debate.  You can disagree, but you would be wrong.

I will disagree and nope, you're wrong.  You can argue the point all you want, but you'd still be wrong.

A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965).

Die Hard is a not a Christmas movie. Setting hardly has to do with Christmas related-stuff. Miracle on 34th Street takes place during thanksgiving, and it's a Christmas movie because of the content. I think that since the "Christmas" party could have been any company event, it hardly puts credence in the claim of Christmas movie. Of course you're joking, but I doubt your kids would enjoy it much as that genre of movie.

I think I'd have a hard time coming up with my favorite movies. There are a few good ones I'd always recommend, though, like The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai Across the 8th Dimension and The 39 Steps (1939). Both are worth watching anytime, though perhaps going between the two might require a mood change.

Watched 'Battleship' on TMN this morning.  Rather shallow plot on the surface, but interesting set of bilateral quadruped aliens, and some neat equipment, if rather primitive for a space-faring race.  Most of their stuff is mechanical.  Definitely a watch once movie.

Haven't seen Battleship but I did watch Pacific Rim last week. The technology shown is trippy but I highly doubt a situation will happen where we actually build robots as tall as skyscrapers..

^ Now that's more like it.  The world deserves a good monster flick once in a while.

You liked that eh?  And here I thought you'd be the first to trash it.  I stand corrected.   I am so looking forward to this, especially since it looks like San Fran is gonna get obliterated and burned to the ground.  Don't you find rather amusing it took 60 years to get a serious Godzilla movie?  Don't get me wrong, I love all the Godzilla films [minus that piece of crap from '98] since I basically grew up watching Godzilla starting in the late sixties, but it's about damn time someone took a more realistic and serious tone to the iconic monster.

There is one thing I want to let any fans of Godzilla know is that Toho only gave rights to Warner/Legendary to use Godzilla and no other kaiju.  So if this film does well, and I hope it does, a sequel will not feature any of Toho's other kaiju which means the studio will have to create new monsters for Godzilla to beat the ever living stuffing out of.

Surprise?  The only bad thing about the original Godzilla movie was Raymond Burr.  Seems to me they did him to death in that one, so all the subsequent ones are merely avatars.  It will be interesting to see how they resurrect him this time.

I saw a trailer last night for a new (American?) version of the 47 Ronin.  I can hardly believe that anyone could remake the original which I saw around the time it was made in Black and White.  In Japanese with Engrish sub-titles.  I am sure the translation was about as faithful to the original as my last Yamaha engine manual: "Under normal abuse the 2GM20 ...".

Actually, that's not the original, but the butchered American version of it cobbled togther in 1956.  When I say original, I mean this one...

This version completely blows the butchered American version out of the water.  In fact, I watched the blu-ray earlier today.

Interesing.  However, I have no Japanese, and wasn't into hunting up original versions in those days.  The hacked up version was what I got, just as I also got the apparently messed up version of Rodan.

Perhaps movie goers are more discriminating now, but I doubt it.  Anything produced in the U.S. is likely going to be for the love me, love my dog movie goers.  Really powerful artistic expressions don't seem to come out of Hollywood any more.  Too many private agendas and advertiser/sponsors in the way.  I think real art in motion pictures died in Hollywood sometime around the time of Joe McCarthy.

I didn't actually hunt for it, saw it on Amazon, was intrigued and bought the dvd.  Then about a year ago, my son gave me the Criterion version on blu-ray for Christmas so now I have both the dvd and blu-ray sitting on my dvd/blu-ray shelf.  I'd be more than happy to gift the dvd to you if you're interested in seeing it and have a dvd player.

The only DVD player I have is on my machine, so I thankfully decline.  My office chair isn't comfortable enough to sit and watch a movie.

I am also really hard up for storage space.  This place isn't really big enough to swing a kitten.  I disposed of my entire library when I moved in here, but it does fine for me.
