Over at Simpeg.com we are developing some really cool stuff for anyone who likes rural settings, like the MTP. I am putting together, along with plenty of help from the other SPAM team members, a set of irrigation canals to go along with this new project.

I am drooling right now! They look very realistic, especially the turn pieces!

They do look tasty, don't they?

Reba has done an excellent job on these. She and Paeng are quite the dynamic duo when they get together on a project such as this. Between her batting skills and his lot & terrain artistry, I just don't see any limit to what they can accomplish. Expect to see more epic-ness from these two.  (Epic Expectations ?)

Looks very promising, and a lot more practical than fudging up drainage ditches with ploppable water. 3.gif

I want. I want. I want. Gimme. Gimme. Gimme.

Will these match up to the PEG streams and ponds ? I hope so.

The official estimate is that they will be ready in "two weeks".

Of course when Grumman was given 7 years to build the Lunar Module, they thought they had plenty off time too...

If I may make just the tiniest suggestion. The canals look great and will be very useful. The first thing that leaped out to me though is the acronym for this project. I'm usually not one to point out these things or be offended (and I'm betting this was not your intention at all)...but you all are aware that SPIC is a pretty well-known rational slur, right?

I think you may be thinking of "spik"...  and Reba was thinking of the Spic in "Spic and Span"... a common household cleaner in America with a name that is play on the expression, "Spick and Span"... which means to be totally new and/or clean.

As the SPIC was designed for the SPAM, I know it is intended to be a play on words, "SPIC & SPAM".

    * Spic... or spick... also means a side of bacon... and SPAM (the meat product) is made entirely from pork. SPAM gets it's name from it's two main ingredients, shoulder of pork... & ham.

Cubby, I did think about that, and it was a bit of a concern. However, I decided that the Sim City 4 community would realize that I would never, nor anyone else in the Simpeg team, intentionally hurt any one.

Oh RebaLynnTS, obviously I do not think it was your intention. I did not mean to insinuate so if that's how it came across. Thank you for the timely reply by the way.

It just really jumped out at me for whatever reason...can't really explain why. I'm sure most gets it and will be mature about it. I just wanted to make sure you weren't accidentally stepping into an...uncomfortable situation so to speak...

By the way Peg, at least as I've seen it used, that slur is indeed "spic", though I have seen spik before as well I think. But again, I knew that this was in no way the intention of the creator or the team. I just wanted to bring it to the intention of the PegProd Team in case it happened to slip everyone's mind is all.

Anyways, I look forward to the release of these excellent SPAM creations. TY for taking the time to create and share.

It was originally a British term... centuries old... and was indeed "spic"... which stood for "Spanish Italian Caucasian".

In America, during the late 19th & early 20th centuries, the term was "spik"... which supposedly came from "No spika da English". Its also quite commonly spelled as "spick"... stemming from "Mick" for those of Irish descent.

With the more recent "political correctness" movement,  most folk who actually write it for some reason, have gone back to the "c" only... thinking it comes from "Hispanic". But the term itself pre-dates the common use of the term "Hispanic" by well over a hundred years.

In its broadest use, both Mick & Spick merely refer to someone of either Irish or Hispanic descent. Its not really derogatory at all.  But offense can be taken in how its used... or by who uses it.  In early America, Catholics were somewhat rare and not too fashionable... and Hispanics and Irish were predominately Catholic. So it also had a religious connotation to it.

    They look fantabulous!

I know it is late in their development, but is there a chance of a second crossing that does not show the exposed culvert end. Very few channels or drains of this size rarely have exposed culverts.

Also I suspect if you had a city with quite a few channels and crossings it could start to look a little repetitive.

Wow, some tasty stuff indeed! I also like those crops I see. 4.gif

The only suggestion I have is that the saturation on the banks of those irrigation canals might be lowered a bit to help them blend into the landscape as seamlessly as possible. Come to think of it, I'd consider decreasing the overall saturation level a notch or two.

I can do that. Might have to wait for an add-on, but we'll see. I'm not sure when we will release them, as the plan is to have the release coincide with the SPAM. There is still a lot of work ahead on that, so please bare with us.

I can see about that. One of the cool things about how I am putting this set together is we'll be able to have optional designs. Swap one set of files, and you have a whole new look.

I thin I'll beat you to the punch with those irrigation canals. There are some textures just like that in lot editor, so I may as well make them, to ease anticipations.

    They look fantastic.

Some interfaces with the canals would be great to give that seemless transition.

Those really look great, Reba. I think this is your best canal set yet!

Are you using the PPond water texture? I'd second the request for a piece to connect to the PPond canals.

Also, are there pump or windmill lots that produce water included? They're a realistic way to provide water in a rural area. I think I see one in the images above, but I figured I would ask now.
