The SimPeg Development Team is proud to announce that a new major project is underway and will begin to be released to the PCG and general public in stages in the near future.

In making fun of the excessive use of game-related acronyms with the letters "AM in them, we of course had to call our new project:

SPAM_Poster1.jpg

The SPAM will be an agricultural add-on to the popular MTP. We are currently developing a whole new collection of lots, mods, textures, flora & fauna, etc... to expand the MTP to include agricultural development in your rural cities and towns.

The two rectangular greenhouses were modeled with very tight LODs so they can be used "modular" style. They can be put together, side-by-side... or end-to-end... to form larger single greenhouse structures.

Note the greenhouse shadows in the 1st and last pics. Filtered sunlight.  9.gif

We keep thinking that beta release is always just about 2 weeks away.  Of course, that has been the thinking for about the past 2 months.

Think of the SPAM as the bottle for the Idea Genie. We've opened the bottle and now we just can't get the Idea Genie back into it. Every new thing we develop leads to several new ideas... which in turn spawns more ideas... and the Feature Creep is loose and running amok.

We want this to be more than just an eye-candy update... so we're finding ways to add even more playability and flexibility to the agricultural aspect of the game. We don't want it to just look different... but also play different.

Unfortunately, all of that takes time. The longer it takes, the better & more extensive it will be.

So how long?   Oh... about 2 weeks.  18.gif

Looks very promising. My only constructive criticism is this:

The greenhouse roofs are a bit steep (compared to what we normally see here in New England). And it's more common here to see rounded roofs on greenhouses. And ..

most greenhouses here are clear paned windows with whitewash (very diluted white latex paint). You can still see through them just not clearly.

Other than that, I'm impressed and will welcome these creations. I enjoy seeing realistic farming in SC4 and there just isn't enough high quality custom content available.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks for the info, Jay.

I imagine that greenhouses are customized somewhat for the location and environment they are in. In New England, the roof lines may be designed to maximize sun exposure. Here in southern California, they are more for reducing direct sun exposure for crops that require less sun... and containing humidity for flower crops, etc...

The sloped roof version in the SPAM was modeled directly after the green house farm near my parent's house about 80 miles from here. Except its quite a bit smaller than the real one. There is a lot of agriculture around here and most of the greenhouses are actually just huge, flat roofed metal or wood rectangular frames wrapped in plastic sheeting.  Most of those are for growing flowers & nursery plants... with the plastic there to hold in humidity as we don't have much occurring naturally here.

I don't mean to pop the proverbial bubble, but those grain elevators (while extremely beautiful and I love them to death) have some serious lighting issues. There is light going though walls and such. The most noticeable is on the Big Ass Version (bottom left), but I can also see it on Last But Not Least (also bottom left), and Charlie Evans (top left).

Just wanted to point that out, its a big issue in an otherwise perfect model. I really love this project by the way!

I can see the bleed through the top of the metal silo only. I can't see any other lighting or bleed through issues on the other models though. Can you be more specific?

Here are the big ones I see. There is also some odd lines along the edge of the right side (looks like the white trim) that seem much brighter then they should be, but that might just be gmax.

    IMO, the silo is fine.

Oh, I see. You're taking about the shadows and what looks like light bleeding through from somewhere. I did not notice it before.

The BAT's lighting rig is an annoyance. Problem is, if you change it, the resulting model does not blend in with everything else.in the game.

I've have another look and see if I can figure where the leaking light is coming from. I do use translucent window panes which might be allowing light to come in one window and out through another.

Pegasus, you could mod the entire game over again, and then some. Looks promising, hope it's done within "two weeks."

Oh it will be done in two weeks.   Definately.   I have full and total confidence.

(Just exactly where we start measuring the two weeks from is still under consideration)

We have all been very busy these past few days with the SPAM mod and I just realized that we haven't issued any progress reports or even a shameless plug or two.  So here you go...

Although we can get pretty excited about what's on the menu, the development  agreed that we do not want to reveal too much of what will be included in the SPAM when released. If you'll pardon the pun, we don't want to give away the farm.  [drum hit]  18.gif

But I can tell you that we have had some recent modding successes and many of the aspects that made using the farms a PITA... have just gone away. Most of the city conditions that deterred farm demand and development have either been eliminated or reduced significantly.

When the SPAM eventually breaks out (probably in about 2 weeks 18.gif), it will change forever how you may have used the farms in the past. The player will have far more control over what develops... and no longer are farms just something to get that starter city going.

We continue to appreciate all of your support... and patience... in this endeavor. We are globally working 24/7 to get it completed and released as soon as possible.

Just a quick update...  development is still forging ahead, and Pegasus has re-rendered and tweaked a number of the original models, including the ones with the lighting issue.

We are still on schedule and still estimate that release will hopefully, probably, maybe more likely than not... be ready in ...

    ... two weeks.  2.gif
