Actually, there's a story here. In preparation for my grandfather's 70th birthday party (which was supposed to be in October but got delayed on account of a few of the intended guests catching swine flu), everyone in the family was supposed to make a little something to be part of a collage, as a gift. I came up with this as my contribution:

It then occured to me that there was avatar potential to this idea, and so I made the one you see at left. Since the site name is in the state name spot, I made a few others to use at other sites.

I'm not actually using this one, because so many other people at AA Roads have shields as avatars, but:

You should change to that one at AARoads, however I guess youre current animated one is ok. (I can't complain because there I don't have one)

Mine is awesome because it shows my diversity, I'm a moderator at AAroads (for those who don't know it is a road forum), my sig says "Support Rail Transport" and my avatar shows the aviation side of me.

Now that the size limit has been raised, I just might. The other problem with using it was that the "AA Roads" text becomes completely illegible when the image is scaled down to 65×65. 80×80 is basically the bare minimum - as you can see, even my avatar here is pusing it a little. The word "Simtropolis" is legible, but not entirely pretty. 120×120 (Rockman PM) and 100×100 (Undersquare) work better.

Oh, and as for my "current animated one":

This actually was my avatar on Simtropolis back in May 2005 (give or take). It had a matching sig image:

Which, in retrospect, made things a bit too busy and loud (hence why it's absent at AA Roads). There was also the problem that if the page loaded too slowly, they'd end up out of sync.

Back in those days, my avatar and signature always matched. Then, in August 2006 (also give or take), I found myself using an avatar that I couldn't match a sig image to... so I came up with the "Mega Possible" image instead, and it's been there ever since.

By the way... total number of different avatars I've had on Simtropolis so far? 64. The traffic signal GIF was #42.
