I won't be doing anything important or even remotely interesting because it will be like every other day during winter brake. Who am I kidding, between semesters I'm lucky to even know what day it is let alone worry about anything happening.

LOL, I'll be at a party called "Rave to the grave", which was really created as a joke by a friend of a friend of mine, but now 5000 people are attending on facebook, and it's probable that the party will actually happen. Punchline? "If the world's coming to an end, we might just as well be drunk and having fun."

I'll be going to the Rave to the Grave Party too! If our way of existance should come to a screaching halt, instead of runing away from something you cant hide from, live your last moments at some huge open dancefloor with techno beats blasting. I hope Deadmau5 or Wolfgang Gartner shows up!

Best reaction to all this hype is to live one day at a time. If the world ends you can't do anything about it, so take a page from Alfred E. Newman.

The world will never truly "end", would it?quote>

Okay, I want to rant.

No, the world will never truly end. If you're speaking in terms of the world as in planet earth ending? The only way for that to happen globally is a massive climate change, the planet slowly becoming uninhabitable, or a space-based object impacting the surface, and even then some of Humanity is likely to survive. And if you're talking about the world as we know it, yknow, like, existence, ending in one day. Uh, no, never gonna happen. NEVER. Existence is everlasting, never-ending, infinite, ongoing, must i use more words? 3.gif

I, personally, will be living said date in time normally, just like every other day and watch everyone around me panic and worry for nothing. lol It might actually be quite humorous, especially if I get to see them the following day. xD

Oh yeah, one other thing that can end life on Earth, A Supernova. Something of that magnitude would actually envelope and destroy the solar system, however that's only when the sun uses up it's last bit of energy, which won't happen for what? Another million years? A billion? Trust me, everyone on this website will die of natural or man-made causes long before something even remotely "end of the world" happens.

I ranted. 9.gif

Now it's my turn to rant.

Life on earth will last for quite some time yet, but it might get a bit too hot for our liking. As the sun uses up its hydrogen, its core contracts and the sun gets brighter and hotter. In about 1 billion years, the temperature will be such that the earth will start to lose its oceans. In about 3 billion years, the oceans will be gone entirely, and Earth will resemble Venus.

The sun won't actually go supernova in 5.5 billion years. It's too small for that. What it will do, however, is expand into a red giant. The radius of the sun will exceed the radius of the Earth's orbit, so our planet would be inside the sun, melting and slowly spiralling inwards from the pressure from the sun's gases. If the sun collapses to a white dwarf before the earth is completely gone, then the Earth will last for a while longer.

Then, of course, we have to deal with the possibility of the slow decay of protons into neutral pions (which subsequently decay into two gamma rays) and positrons, which would annihilate the electrons, also producing (usually two) gamma rays, but this is purely theoretical and hasn't been observed, which places the half-life of a proton at a minimum of 6.6×1033 years. Isolated free neutrons have a mean lifetime of around 15 minutes before they decay into a proton, an electron, and an electron antineutrino.

And then there's the heat death of the universe (which may be the same thing as above, actually), when entropy finally reaches a maximum, but that shouldn't happen for at least 10100 years yet. There's also the option of the Big Rip, but that depends on ω (the ratio between dark energy pressure and energy density) being less than −1 (further from 0). In our universe, it's very close to this value, but we're not sure exactly what it is. If ω is greater than -1 (closer to 0), the universe would recollapse to a Big Crunch. This option is thought unlikely. If it's exactly -1, then it will continue expanding forever, but will not accelerate to a Big Rip.

And that's the end of my rant.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I don't know if I already posted this but still. Going on again.

The world can end on a few ways:

1) Mass panic: Some people actually think the day will come, the day the world will end, this causing a mass panic if they reach a lot of other people, mass panic = mass deads.

2) Electronic: Computer virus, Power failure, EMP bombs etc.

3) Natural: Natural Disasters, Universe stuff.

4) Other: Weapons of mass destruction. Overpopulated planet. Die of hunger, heat waves and so on.

I actually think 2012 will happen, not because the Mayans predict it, no, because I want it to happen. In the form of, at least killing 50% of the world. Why, just because 50% of this world lives useless. God is not really god anymore, but just a religion crap thing. People consume the earth way to useless. I LOVE DISASTERS9.gif

You know what:I don't think the world is going to end soon. For one, my dad told me that the Mayan decendents said that the fact that the world is gonna end in 2012 is not true. Plus, even if the world was gonna end, there are ways we can survive some of mankind(E.G:Meteroite hitting the earth, we can build a spaceship that can carry maybe about 200-500 people, as well as food, water, shelter, and maybe certain species). Also, another thing that could happen to the world is a big solar storm, as in Perfect disaster, however, we can survive by doing controlled blackouts in as meny countries as possible. But the bottem line:I think the world is not going to end.

When has there not been a Climate Change?  Climate is always changing and the temperature has been alot higher in the medieval ages than it is now.

When has there not been an Economic Crisis?  All economies have gone through a boom and bust cycle, read "This Time It's Different"  its about the economic crisis's that have taken place in the history.

When has there not been a new Flu?  Swine Flu is a scam.  Flu is a constantly changing virus and it has pretty much always been around,  What about Small Pox...it was pretty bad, not it its believed to have been eradicated through vacination.

Perhaps the Mayan's simply couldn't be arsed finishing their calendar and correctly made the assumption they would be using something different to tell the time in 1500 years.

The world is always far more gullible than anyone would hope to believe. 15.gif

Or they got bored and moved on. The ones creating the calendar probably died before being able to add 2013 the life expectancy was like 20 back then right? 3.gif Can't expect someone to create a year they will not live to see.

The Mayan calendar is cyclic. The new cycle begins in 2012. Anything else is pure speculation. Everyone wants to know the unknowable, like the future. One of the problems in "knowing the future" is that it is a problem in quantum mechanics. Every ever so slight decision you make sets off at least two different time-lines in the time wave fronts. But it is titillating to speculate.  I live life day by day, the same way that I walk, with one foot before the other.  Predicting the apocalypse is for the very, very strange nuts that are not holding anything to the machine.

The end of the world is called death. Once you die, all it remains are memories.

The world can't just die in a day unless it is struck by an asteroid or absorbed by a black hole.

or engulfed by the sun as it expands to a red giant.

I don't believe the world will end in 2012...the mayan calendar is meant to repeat itself, so all that it will do is start over.  But, eventually, humanity will end.  And I saw how it will end in a vision.

Well, it wasn't a vision so much a movie.  A not-so-popular but still VERY good movie named Daybreakers.  to explain what i'm getting at, the basic plot is that, in 2010, a virus sweeps over the earth, turning people into vampires.  These aren't the kind that turn into bats and fly off in the night, sleep in coffins, live in old castles in transelvania.  And no, they didn't sparkle either.  They were just like us, except for a few things.  1) they needed blood. 2) If they didn't get blood, preferably human blood, then they transformed into these hidious monsters (over time) that looked a bit like a bat, but way more hideous. 3) If they were exposed to UV light, they combusted....now, you may ask, how does this show how the world will end?

In the movie, the year is now 2019 (or around then), years after the virus swept through.  At this point, people are farmed for their blood, but the stock is running low.  More and more of the vampires, primarilly the lower classes, have to resort to drinking their own blood, which has the effect of speeding up their transformation into monsters, and these monsters must be exterminated for the sake of the few healthy by walking them out into the sunlight.  When humanity ends, it will be under a cataclysmic event.  A large chunk of humanity may survive, but we are selfish creatures.  We would easily turn against our own kind to live just one day longer.  And when only one human is left alone will our race finally realize what we have done.

We will distroy ourselves and have a fun time doing so.
