Actually, most cities use a form of the "strict" grid layout, with slight variations made to fit the terrain of the city, any other cities taken in (or outer neighborhoods), etc... Some of the places you'll often find changes to this are subdivisions, along or near rivers or hills, large, oddly-shaped parks, near highways or train tracks, industrial parks, near schools and especially universities, or in upper-class developments. Some of these (mostly the subdivisions and strictly upper-class neighborhoods) are not really applicable to the game, but otherwise, just follow something with at least one main road for easy access and the rest branching off of it and leading back to it. Also, for around natural areas (hills, rivers, etc...), maybe have the main road follow it or go around it and the rest connect to that in some way

or, if you REALLY want to, you can ask someone to BAT you a small building that holds a ton of people

thanks...i know the main thing i have a problem with doing is the roof junk, and a bit with the textures...i just always feel that it looks too cluttered when i start putting the roof junk on...ofc, i don't spend much time looking at buildings from the top, so that may just be me XD

I don't believe the world will end in 2012...the mayan calendar is meant to repeat itself, so all that it will do is start over. But, eventually, humanity will end. And I saw how it will end in a vision. Well, it wasn't a vision so much a movie. A not-so-popular but still VERY good movie named Daybreakers. to explain what i'm getting at, the basic plot is that, in 2010, a virus sweeps over the earth, turning people into vampires. These aren't the kind that turn into bats and fly off in the night, sleep in coffins, live in old castles in transelvania. And no, they didn't sparkle either. They were just like us, except for a few things. 1) they needed blood. 2) If they didn't get blood, preferably human blood, then they transformed into these hidious monsters (over time) that looked a bit like a bat, but way more hideous. 3) If they were exposed to UV light, they combusted....now, you may ask, how does this show how the world will end? In the movie, the year is now 2019 (or around then), years after the virus swept through. At this point, people are farmed for their blood, but the stock is running low. More and more of the vampires, primarilly the lower classes, have to resort to drinking their own blood, which has the effect of speeding up their transformation into monsters, and these monsters must be exterminated for the sake of the few healthy by walking them out into the sunlight. When humanity ends, it will be under a cataclysmic event. A large chunk of humanity may survive, but we are selfish creatures. We would easily turn against our own kind to live just one day longer. And when only one human is left alone will our race finally realize what we have done. We will distroy ourselves and have a fun time doing so.

i'm sorry, i just said i don't learn by just doing one single project constantly but instead learn by starting small and working my way up, which is actually a way many people learn easier. I did gladly accept other advice. Also, as i understand it, i'm not allowed to re-post in the thread, and even if i keep editing my last post, it won't go to the top or anything, so people are going to assume nothing new

yes, i do have a bat thread but people keep ignoring it :p so how am i supposed to get help from that? as for the roof junk, i could have added more, yeah, that is where i admit messing up...the windows, that i considered adding more (there's a number of them on the front and downstream side, and some higher ones on the back), but i made my design based how buildings i've seen are made and most power ones don't have many windows (at least here)

Do you want a hydro-electric dam that doesn't completely block your rivers, making complete ferry routes impossible? Do you want one with adjustable dam lengths so as to make sure it fits your river? Well, with this, it's possible. This package, which has no outside dependencies, makes that possible! It comes with a small hydro-electric plant, which will be found under your power list and produces 2000 in power, along with one-square tiles of dam segments that are found in the parks section and can be placed in the water. Hope you enjoy this upload! And feel free to check out my BAT thread at https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=37&threadid=114456&enterthread=y -
BAT - Troubleshooting & General Discussion
EMTechie replied to Jasoncw's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
okay, this is something i'm trying to figure out for my personal cities and i'm hoping someone can help me. I'm not completely sure this question fits here or anywhere else, because it kind of overlaps, but if it's the wrong place to ask, i'm sorry ahead of time. Anyways, I'm trying to figure out how to design custom bridges on the BAT (the how to part is easy enough, ofc), and then export and import them into the game to be functional along with the normal bridges. I've looked around for a bit on how to do it, but keep hitting dead-end links...can someone else here help me (or at least point me in the right direction)? thanks -
well, industry lots don't necessarily have to "face" the roads, so going over them, it would have kept them facing the same way...often to absolutely nothing
-
thanks for the advise, and i will try and keep that in mind, timmystwin...and with that, here's a building i have been working on most of today and durring the few hours i had free yesterday...yeah, i know the colors / textures clash, but they're supposed to as this would be a low-wealth house: UPDATE: well, seeing as having no responses to the house above, i've continued working on BATs to put into my game, and figured I'd see what people think....the first is another small R$ house, or more like a hut, which would maybe hold one family (if they didn't mind being a little cramped): Also, I have a firestation design, which has actually been split into two seperate versions, but i'm only showing the later...this i have made as a volunteer fire station (in-game is cheeper, less trucks, smaller lot, etc...), for which the building has the main garage and a small office in the back. The one shown below is a small fire station with the office part expanded to be the same length as the garage and to hold the living quarters for on-duty firefighters. In-game, this one will have/has the same stats as the small fire station:

I see you're enthusiastic - before you start making your "ton of custom content," really dig in and perfect one single building - take it to the furthest possible level of completion and detail and finish and polish.quote> Yeah, i understand that that is how most people learn best, but unfortunately that's not the case for me, it works better for me to work on many and advance with each one until i can get better and more detailed, hence why i'm starting with small ones and working my way up as it goes (i mean, seriously, how often to one-tile residential lots develop in the game?) thanks for the advice and i will try and follow it, also want to point out, like i said in the STEX with the one i uploaded, i chose not to put window sills / mullins on that building because, for whatever reason, most of those types of buildings have the windows basically go right into the wall with no visible windowsill...weird, i know, but that's how it is

Also, to madhatter, the road turns off like that so that this lot can work better on a corner (the image i used was for my test city, not the one i'm going to start after i get more BATs set up), and it is 2x2 because most of those buildings around here sit on a small green park.... and thanks to everyone else for the comments :D
