 Hi guys...

To save the forum quickly getting filled up with countless threads, every time someone thinks of a new question about CXL please use this thread to ask them.

Often a question can be answered with just one or two posts so it does not need a whole new thread.

We all know that there's a multiplayer aspect to Cities XL.

Will we be able to arrange ourselves in 'guilds' and cooperate to get the 'best' city upgrades?

Will there be benefits in being in a guild - decreased transport costs or some such?

Just curious, it could open up some other gameplay options.

PS.  My epic purple professional house is better than yours 3.gif

Trading-blocks will no doubt form, which you can call 'guilds' if you like. The primary benefit of this will be trading resources, which isn't a particularly intense level of cooperation. Unless you like wandering around other people's houses, sims style, it's hard to see people getting too excited about the social aspects of this game.

Blueprints are also available to build monuments. Monuments require enormous amounts of resources to construct and are only available online. Having a group of friends willing to send you cut-price resources will be nearly essential for this.

Whether any of this would be sufficient for you to consider joining a 'guild' is up to you - for what it's worth, Monte Cristo thinks it is, since this is almost exclusively the point of Planet Offer. If you read a lot of forums, however, you might easily get the impression that Monte Cristo is on another planet entirely.

Most MMOs include a month of free online play with the purchase of the game. However, I haven't seen any statements indicating this is so for CitiesXL. I'm starting to suspect that since there's a single player component, this won't be the case with CitiesXL. I'd like to try this game out, and if it's good I could see purchasing a 3 month subscription and playing that out until other games catch my attention. If it's not included, I can't help but view this as a sham. Can anyone confirm how this will work?

Most MMOs don't have an offline component, so I guess they don't need to do the '1 free month' thing.

I was really stoked for this game when I first got word of it, but the more I dig into the info the more turned off I am. The existence of a free online trial month will be the deal maker for me. I can't justify spending money on the full game that has intentionally removed already developed content, only to have to immediately pay more money for said content. That is a business model that I can't consciously support and smells of extortion worse than anything even EA has committed.

I don't know if they've removed content, just seems like they haven't got it polished enough yet. Then again, that could just be what they're saying.......

http://citiesxl.gamesplanet.com/cities-xl-limited-edition-game-monte-cristo.html

*This pack includes a 7 days free pass for the Planet mode, for Services and additional on-line fonctions for Cities XL

I agree, that a month should be the minium, by the way. They're silly not to, since they need to give you time to get hooked on the online features to make you willing to keep coughing up the cash. In my view 7 days is enough to give you a taster, but not enough to get you hooked. PO is mainly going to be of benefit to people with larger, developed cities, and many people won't get that far in only 7 days

7 days is not sufficient, unfortunately, and I think I'll have to pass on this one, at least until it's in the bargain bin. Judging by how many online games (not even MMOs) have tanked horribly recently, I may not have to wait too terribly long. 15.gif

    Hi,

Did you like the new "Gameplay Presentation Video #1" they uploaded on the ciies xl website ?

During the video, the guy says you can create a network of airports, seaports, etc and by the end he says and you can trade with players online via the planet offer but we will cover that in the next video.

Does this mean they have finally decided to include aiports, seaports in the non PO version of the game?

I think that the airport / seaport will probably boost the 'transport network' some buildings seem to need to function.

Naming our Streets,Roads,Cities,Buildings and so on?

Let people know what's off the Exits interms of Cities,Places to Eat/Sleep/so on,how far to the next city or town?

Have Empty Shopping Centers that need to be filled and Land for Sale?

will they ever make updates to the avatar system? i found it to be very inhibiting. if they're gonna let you make your own character, you should be able to make it look however you want it to !

You can, but since many things are buried very well (such as skin color), it's best to hit random until you get something close to what you want.

I hope that Limited Edition's avatar creator will be easier than the demo's was.

I pre-ordered citiesxl like 2 days before it was available for pre-order on steam, will I be able to use my key and unlock it in steam too?

I guess. I'm not shure. If I knew Steam was getting it, I would have ordered off there though. You'll prolly just have the game unlocked for you (account wise) and no key needed.

You can always add the game into steam manually but you will not be able to download content for the game through steam unless Monte Cristo come up with a deal with Valve. Some games have done this but not many as I imagine it is a very expansive road to take. It essentially means Valve taking on additional distribution costs and bandwidth aside from those who bought the game within the steam system and they won't do that for free.

My question to the devs or to the representatives:

Will there be patchnotes with each new version that will be launched in the near future? In the notes changes (compared to the previous version) are listed.

So like everyone, I'm dying to play this game, however I'm on a mac.

I do have XP partitioned, and I'm running a 2.33, 2gb ram, 256 ati x1600. Should I drop the $40 in hopes that it works or even runs smoothly at all? Should I wait for a cider port? ( I can't wait, really) Or are the sys reqs just too great for me to even handle it at all?

What would be nice to know is whether someone is in my situation and has tried the game already...

    thanks

You have to remember that you're running XP on hardware that exactly the same as other Windows machines, you're just paying the "Apple Tax" for it. I'm a little worried about the 256mb video RAM, but I think you'd be alright.

I've been playing SC4 Deluxe with a gig-and-a-half of plugins on my first gen Intel iMac under Windows XP SP3 for about three years. My hardware specs are similar to yours (2GHz, 2GB RAM, 256MB VRAM, Radeon X1600. You pretty much have the same computer as me.

Remember, when this game was released originally, no one had 256MB of VRAM, so the amount is plenty.

Really the only issues are funky plugins that may cause conflicts. That's really the only reason I've had crashes. So, save often.

SC4 Deluxe (Windows) is only $14.49 on Amazon.

One of the first things I noticed about Cities XL is that it's landscapes do resemble the landscapes for the towns in The Sims3. I realize it's an unlikely thing, but considering the similarities, if you're a player of The Sims 3, don't you think that Cities XL does showcase the possibility that it could be used as a town creator for The Sims 3, much like Sim City 4 could make neighborhoods for The Sims 2?

I highly doubt EA and MC would work together on something like that.
