Giveaway: Celebrating 4 years of Cities: Skylines
Androv replied to boformer's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
I've played SimCity since my old SimCity on a floppy disc on my MacPlus ... about 30 years ago now I think. Always a bit on and off. I've also tried City Life (?) and Cities XL and the various incarnations of that producer. Cities Skylines is very good; I miss the region play of SimCity 4 which allowed for even greater cities to be built but it was also quite buggy. I've included a shot of Tristan Island in the Atlantic. I downloaded the terrain from terrainparty; the main problem is that there is (was?) no way to have an island city without a road connection; to that end there is a hidden motorway bridge on the far side of the island to the city. When building cities I like to built flat rather than build tall; I find cities of 10,000 people with 10-story apartment buildings very odd and unrealistic. However this seems to cause problems with services which in almost all games seem to have a very limited range. I only have 244 hours logged. All that Jazz would be the one for me. -
Awesome work

A Kingdom for Keflings is a kind of medieval city builder ... ... ... well it's cute and not very expensive ... Civ for the 360 is a streamlined version but is quite fun Will have to look for Tropico...

I think it depends on the houses you are building - low density houses don't give much population compared to high or medium density... For example, this city only has 25,000 people. It's still too many for the number of homes but it isn't hugely over the top!

I was trying to find it today It's now some car repair site ...

Looks like it will be a very green city I'm watching to see how it will develop! Regarding graphics, I always try to take the pics with high graphics settings but it can be troublesome if your computer is a bit old (pre 2008 in my case :-/ )

The Gregorian Plains - A tour through Gregory Valley!

What's the map you're using? It looks really pretty Very nice setup with the little towns as well. -
This looks like a very planned city. I like the skilled workers district That bridge is massive for such a small town, I'm building on this map currently and have started in a similar area, but until there's a big population on that island I won't be building bridges to it... although it's awesome that the simulator lets you do it from the start However, I imagine that this town will grow rapidly to the point where that bridge is vital, so looking forward to it!!

Long distance shots of New Melbourne Population - 1.3 million New Melbourne continuous to expand its high tech and office industries, at the expense of heavy industry and manufacturing. Accompanying this rise in office space was demand for a new airport to replace the small Tullamarine facility. The New Melbourne International Airport is located on the southern side of the city, but is well connected to the CBD by expressways. A new office park has been developed nearby, but some parts are still under construction. New Melbourne has now expanded to fill most available flat spaces, with a small region near the power district and airport relatively undeveloped due to pollution. As land becomes more expensive, the city looks skyward to preserve the mountainsides. The northern and eastern parts of the city remain suburban in feel, and small tracts of fertile farming land are still farmed, providing a buffer between the suburbs and the CBD. Can anyone recommend a good tree mod? I have trouble with the one I've downloaded (can't remember the name), it doesn't do 'random trees' very well and I have to plop each one. As you can see from the picture, that is a VERY large bare hill that needs some trees

Wow, nothing that dramatic has ever happened in my cities! (that's not quite true, I had some 'riots' in one of my City Life cities, it's on here somewhere) - but definitely *no* nuclear attacks :-/ Will this CJ continue?

Population - 1,250,000 New Melbourne continuous to grow, and although pollution is a major concern the provision of amenities (paid for through the export of high-tech goods) is keeping the populace content. With increasing size, the central city is becoming progressively more gentrified as house prices soar. Unfortunately, this means that the lower income workers have a very, very long way to travel to reach the city centre. The high tech industries are found on the opposite side of the CBD, although the ring road helps with traffic congestion. The high tech sector continues to expand, with numerous suburbs consisting entirely of high tech and supporting office infrastructure springing up on the western side of the city. Unfortunately, even the ring road is having trouble coping with all of the traffic, leading to bottlenecks lasting late into the night. Fortunately this keeps traffic off the main arterial roads! The construction of the Coburg Parkway (on the left side of this traffic view) is alleviating some of the traffic problems by funneling some traffic from the suburb of Coburg to the high tech district of Altona. That's it for now, going to try for 1,500,000 next! If my computer can tolerate it

New Melbourne Ring Road As requested, here's some pics of the ring road. On the southern side of the city, there is a major interchange between the Richmond Expressway and the southern part of the ring road. Houses in this region are, as expected, very cheap. The industrial sector is just to the north. The same interchange, looking north. You can see the Richmond Expressway passing in almost a straight line to its crossing of the Neoyarra. The CBD is just to the right of this. Moving to the western part of the ring road, this is the Dandenong Interchange near a large residential suburb. Numerous earthmoving works were required to create this interchange. The EdenTel Interchange is located just below the EdenTel tower. The EdenTel tower runs west beneath the tower to gather traffic from the most northern of New Melbourne's suburbs. Finally, on the eastern side of the city is the Lalor Interchange. This is controlled by traffic lights and is a huge bottleneck. New Melbourne engineers seem unable to construct freeway style bridges in this day and age! Well that's the ring road! Now I'll be focussing on taking New Melbourne to 1,250,000 people!
