Did anyone figure out or explain how to trade between two of your own cities? I know it was asked here already but I did not see a response. I would like to know as I plan to set up a 2nd city now and trade food and water to my industrial/fuel city.

Does it ever cycle times of day in solo mode because I have been playing the same map for a long time and it only ever stays dusk (or dawn).

As far as I know it's impossible.

Trading resourses is fairly easy.

  •   Go into one of the cities that will become trading partners.
  •  Type something into the chat window and left click on your Mayor name. This will bring up a list of options. Click "begin trade". This brings up a simplified trade window. Chose the resource you want to exchange from the active city with the drop down  menu. There is an empty box next to the resource window. Type in the amount to be traded.
  • Choose the second city and resource to be exchanged. Don't forget to type in the amount.
  • Hit the accept button.
  • The deal has to be finalized on your Mayors page on the CXL website. Open the active contract page.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and open the Recieved Contract Proposals tab. Accept the offer.
  • Return to your City. There will be a dialoge box stating your city has a new contract.

sgcase many thanks - someone showed me that last night as well.  One thing though - the trade will appear backwards in your active trades list - but it is still working right.

Hopefully MC adds a handy button on the trade menu so that I don't have to annoy everyone by typing "..." into chat ;-)

I have an agricultural city that I trade food and water from to my industrial city.

just type "/city ...." then no one but you will see it

chat has a lot of nice commands people just don't use them

Curious if there are any plans to make it easier for gaming guilds to coordinate?  Such as chat channels, trade offers just for guild mates, etc,

ok some questions before i buy this game..

1. does your city expire? I read somewhere that it does..is it optional or you dont have a choice and will expire

2. If it does, why? what happens?

3. How big are the maps in km?

4. Are the buildings and roads more or less proportional?

5. Are there seaports and airports? can someone please post a picture?

6. What about trees? can i plop a lot of them?

thanks

1) I don't know anything about cities expiring, unless you cancel your account, in which case I think they're stored somewhere....

2) See above

3) No idea, but it looks like 4-5 km

4) Some of the buildings seem a little 'out' compared to others (particularly the high density ones) but the overall effect isn't compromised

5) There are seaports and airports. Don't have any pics because none of my cities have needed them yet 4.gif

6) There are trees but they are not ploppable at this point in time, it's something they plan to expand on in the future ... 4.gif

my question #1 was in reference to this

quite small huh? it does look bigger from some of the pics but im not quite sure lol..thanks anyway

glad to hear these 2 issues are ok 4.gif

I hope they do,looking at some cities screenshots it seems there arent much trees in the maps 15.gif heres another set of questions if you guys dont mind

1.So have they confirmed the plan for ploppable/growable trees?

2. any news on custom contents?

3. any news on other building themes?so far another thing thats stopping me is that the cities architecture look too european and was hoping there would be asian content

edit:

from the looks of it though, i guess ill just have to wait till some extra stuff are added or MC improves a little on the game..it shows a lot of promise though but not enough for me to buy it now..im in the middle of enjoying NBA 2k9 and NFS:shift anyway so theres no rush for me..hopefully in 2 months the game adds something to make me purchase the game..(

OK:

1) I think one of the MC guys has said that ploppable trees were something they were looking in to, and it could be released in the future.

2) I don't know about the custom content, I think they'll have to vet everything to stop someone from making a 'give you 100 of all resources for free' structure.

3) There will be new content every month, first up is medieval, then a chinatown pack, and buses at some point? So if you count 'chinatown' as an asian pack...

what every happened to have maps based on real cities? Back in CXl.com, they had polls about this "what city do you wont to build" or something like that, well the winner was Amsterdam, with all this research I assumed we would be getting some of them.

Did they fix this game before releasing it, i quit about 2 months out of the end of beta because it was a nusience having to pull out back to planet view every 15 minutes or so, doing that 5 or so times then having to restart the game altogether. I noticed about the time i was leaving everyone else was too from the beta because the game was so broken.

so a question before i spend money on what was last seen as a broken game....did they fix it?

My city runs for a fair while, but you still need to go to the planet mode every couple of hours.

Question regarding the "packs" they plan on releasing.

These will be free as long as you're subscribed to the planet offer, right?

And once in a while, like, every year or so, they'll have a HUGE pack (Let's call it an Expension) where you'll pay 15-20$ for and it'll be full of stuff, new maps, general uppgrade, etc.

Right?

I just need to reassure myself that they're not planning on charging for every, single patch that add content.

The content packs will be free if you subscribe.

The GEMs will be 35% less if you subscribe.

if you buy a "pack" lets say the medieval one dose that just over ride all the other building or does it just add more building to the game, I was planning to buy most of these packs but if I cant uses them all at once, what the point

Anybody knows how will the GEMS and any other packages like mass transit will work ?I mean i didnt buy PO yet..and im not sure if i wll...but if you do buy PO you can download mass transit and keep it forever in your solo mode even if you dont renew your PO after its over?

PS. ANother question...are the highways locked for the basic edition ?if yes is there another way to get them? (PO maybe) if they arent what is the 2 button in the transportation list? it is unclickable and it looks like its the highways button thats why i ask.

Hello,

The Gems will be available for purchase for both PO subscribers and non-subscribers however PO subscribers will get a 35% discount.  About future content such as Mass-Transit as it stands now only PO subscribers will get it and will only be available to use in PO mode not solo mode.  If you cancel your PO subscription you will loose the ability to use all future content like mass-transit  because it is only useable in the PO option.  You will be able to use any GEM's that you purchase in solo mode.

About the highways you are correct that the second button is where they are and is called fast lanes.  They will only become available when you reach a population of 750,000 I believe.  This is the same for PO option or solo mode.

Thank You

John

Hi guys!

I was a Beta Tester and I think a lot to buy the game or not. I'm waiting and watching the game developement.

One of the things that is very important to me is the deeper game experience. I remember that in the Beta test there was no smoke in the industry buildings and no traffic sounds, and many more things that rested this nice game experience.

So I want to ask you guys if those things are now in the game (I think not...) and if not, there is possible to put theme in a future patch or something?

As far as it doesnt have to do with pc specs there is no traffic sound for me,which is a bad thing sice city life had traffic sounds.looks like a step back in this aspect of the game.I doubt if there could be any sound in the future in forms of patch...i believe the sounds are hardcoded in the game so it would be hard to change...or maybe not who knows...

So I was playing the game on my laptop at work today, and am quite happy with the city I was building, but now I'd like to copy it over to my desktop.

The Cities XL forums say the saved games are in the "downloads" directory (hidden) under /users/Appdata/Local/  etc... etc...

I copied this over, but, eh, it didn't change anything, and as far as I can tell the only thing in that folder are the patch updates.

Anyone have any ideas? Is it even possible?

In the Cities XL saves, I notice a demo city called capital_city.sav. Since I am a horrible city builder and my Planet Offer expired, I decided I'd look at the city to get an idea on building cities. But then I figure out that there is clearly no way to load .sav files. Anyone have an idea?

I seriously dont get it. what am i doing wrong? I start by making the required homes and jobs. and so everything goes smoothly. but by the time i need gas AND i make the required utilitys to get gas my money starts plummeting. i go from 12k+ to -30k+. should i just focus on my major resource and do trade? not to mention then theres the need for water and waste that hit me at the same time.

Build the general services building? It's low cost and goves you a bit of all the utilities. they only cost 5k in maintenance so either you are building several utilities or pollution or a lack of resources is shutting down your industry.
