I just got off from the "tech support" of Monte Cristo, and the lady said (in a tone which implied that it was somehow MY fault that I pre-ordered on 7th! and not before) that I must wait atleast 10  days in order to recieve my game! Monte Cristo, if you are reading this, I am sorry but this is utterly ridiculous! it was mentioned NO WHERE on the website that a mail order would take 10 days for shipping!

my support for this company and this game is kinda going away quickly.

Edited inappropriate language.

I really think that whats ridiculous is you waiting till the eve of the game launch to order, you couldve at least ordered 3-5 days before. they cant get you the game in 1 day because people working there are human and they need sleep too.

Anyway you still get the limited edition for 20 bucks less so you have nothing to complain about.

I agree! they are human and they love their sleep as much as I do!

But my main issue is that if they cant fulfil orders that quickly, why accept them until such a late date. Why not stop accepting pre-orders a week before the launch.

Well I pre-ordered some weeks ago and have had nothing. No confirmation email for the order itself, no confirmation of despatch and no flipping package.

I gave them my credit card details etc.

I don't know whether anybody can tell me what it's showing up on credit card statements as?

I need to know whether I've been billed.

Unfortunately since their website is still in "useless mode", I can't contact them that way.

What I dread is that they'll be unable to tell me one way or the other whether they can find my order and I have this nasty feeling that if I don't reorder, I won't get it at all, but that if I do re-order I'll get billed twice...

Not at all impressed or happy.

Apologies - their website does now work.

My demo account still seems to be live, so...

First I am putting this in this thread b/c I want MC to see it.

I preordered 3 weeks ago. So far the only thing I have received is an activation key by email. No cd, no tracking info, no how do you do, no nothing.

I realize that launching a game can run into roadblocks and detours, but why not give us some idea on your website what is going on. Because I thought when I preordered I would have it when the servers came online.

Furthermore, I guess by the time we are playing all the good spots on the PO are going to be taken just like when I played the demo. Just ranting since I dont have a game to play

Yep you're right the good spots will be taken, I think they already have been taken since most people haven't got to play till today (US based anyway). I guess the good thing is, In 3 months from now 3/4 of the cities will be deleted since most people wont be paying for PO, HaHa. So we'll get new spots then. 3.gif

Also, on the website it says, "The trial version DVD of Cities XLtm is included in the boxed version of Cities XLtm (Standard and Limited), with the "Bring a friend" offer."

If I read it right, they are saying "Hey! If you wanna get the demo! Buy the full game! "

just wow!

normally there two dvds inside the box - but if its only one - means its could be MC fail to provide a good service

Thats not exactly my point. For example, I am a new user and I want to try the game before I buy it. I see no links to download a demo or trial version of the game on the MC website. Even if I sign up I am asked to enter either my CD key or the "bring a friend" code.

What options does a new user have if he/she wants to try the game before spending 50 bucks on it.

I don't know if a general demo is still available, but it sounds like they just included a demo version on DVD as a convenience.  I don't think the intent was to make people buy the whole game to get a demo (that would be an interesting approach to sales to say the least).

I think it's meant more as a referall.  ie, Jim buys the game, Jim likes it, Jim thinks his friend Bob will like it.  Instead of saying "You'd like CitiesXL, go find the demo and download it", he can hand Bob a DVD and just say "Here, try it.".  If there's no demo available for download, Bob now has a demo he can use.  If there is a demo available for download, Bob doesn't need to wait to download it, he can just pop his trial DVD in and get going.

What if Bob doesnt have Jim ? 3.gif

What if Bob is the only one in his circle of friends who likes City Builder games? What if none of his friends bought the game?

So, I've checked and they have my order on my account and confidently promise me that I'll have the game a few days before launch.

In fact, here are the promises to date:

Email confirmation of my order

Order tracking

Game with me before launch

CD key on date of launch.

4 promises. 4 Fails.

(edit)

And before anybody asks, I've checked my junk mail.  Unless their message is cunningly disguised as an offer to increase my manhood, facilitate the withdrawal of money from an "interesting region of the world" by sending my bank account details or a security warning from a bank that I'm not a customer of, then it's not there either.

Not impressed and now as of this evening there's a flipping postal strike so even if they do decide to post me what I've paid for, there's a snowball's chance in hell that I'll actually receive it.

Yay.

Let's be reasonable guys, like with every other product there is a delay involved with delivery. They can't exactly transport a game to your doorstep with magic.

The demo for the game is still available in a number of places. (like here: http://www.filefront.com/14491273/Cities-XL-Playable-Demo/)

Thanks guys - will be nice, but my point stands. They shouldn't make promises that they can't keep. It's a great way to generate discontent.

That is no excuse. If they are charging $40/$50 for a game then they better have made the proper arrangements.

And I apologize if I may have sounded rude or uncivil in the past. Its just that it is kinda annoying to know while the whole world plays the game I will be sitting here waiting for the next 10 days without the game or the CD key.

I'm glad I didn't waste my money on this game, I was lucky enough to get in the beta. Hell I can't even login to the beta site. There is no excuse for a game to take 10 days to arrive especially when most if not all console games typically arrive to Gamestop/EB the morning of or the day before and pre orders usually are available the day of the street date release. Whoever is in charge of distribution is acting like they have never done this before.

Well, #1 if you want Monte Cristo to see this you should send it by thier support form.

To bad abou the wait. I feel bad now that I got all agro about Direct2Drive not opening Pre-Order Downloads until 9 hours after release time (8 October 2009 at 1 min after Midnight USA PDT)

But 4 hours later (due to my crappy New Zealand Internet) had the game and key (Limited Edition Digital Download)

If you want a game FAST you need to Pre-order/Order by Digital Download from a reputable company.

Good Luck on getting a decent spot if using Planet mode, I was about 28 hours late after release and the picking were getting small on the servers. I was lucky I got some choice city spots.

I downloaded this demo and installed it... When I loaded up the game I got a message saying my version was out of date and that I could update it by restarting the game. Well I restarted and it still yelled at me for having an out of date version... Any thoughts?

Thankyou for your reply.

I hope the CD and the Key get to me soon. I am not against the game, I am still very eager to play it. I am just a bit annoyed.
