Simcity 2013 exploited for the 'Pay to Win' model?
gmcausland replied to gmcausland's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
The 'Pay to Win' aspect is through the use of the Leaderboard in Multiplayer mode. I reckon there will be various 'perks' you can buy and the opportunity to buy Simoleons to assist you within the game. -
Simcity 2013 exploited for the 'Pay to Win' model?
gmcausland posted a topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I think it is very sad if this edition of Sim City has been exploited for those ends. Personally as a lone gamer, I'm not interested in the bells and whistles for online/multiplayer aspects of the game. I am certainly not interested in any future DLC packs or micro-transactions. I refuse to to be exploited by EA in this way. I bet the designers and developers did not want their project hijacked by EA like this. I am wondering whether the 'bugs' that are plaguing this game is a kind of 'message' sent by the developers to the management at EA? -
RCI, happiness and basic game rules are broken
gmcausland replied to Dyspho's topic in SimCity (2013) Technical Help Q&A
I think this is what they wanted... kinda like a facebook game where anyone can play it, and succeed. The more people that succeed, the more micro-transactions they can make, which means more money for EA. Where EA failed, thinking that the Sim City fanbase was a bunch of mindless fools. And this is nub of the matter. The whole aim of EA/MAXI for Simcity 5 is to extract as much cash from the General Public through it's micro-transactions. They will only put in as much depth to the game so as to achieve that aim. They are not interested in stimulating minds through an in-depth virtual economic model. For EA it's about the pretty graphics and the easiness to play the game to exploit people's cash. It's sadly the way of how companies like EA operate nowadays. This edition could have been opportunity to develop a game that would build on Simcity 4 but it has been squandered to exploit it as a 'pay to win' model. I really hope the fans will wake up and stick their two fingers up at greedy EA to this kind of 'gaming'. -
Considering the number of hoops and smokescreens MC put people through on this product. I am a bit wary and sceptical with the 'new' release of this game. I want to know a lot more of how committed the company is to develop this game. We have seen all this before with the 'exciting' screenshots and promises, many of which never transpired or was manipulated in such a way to try and extract as much money out of the users as possible. This approach seriously compromised the integrity of this company. I would advice people not to follow like sheep again into buying into this again without getting assurances of what actual improvements and features will be in the update of the game. Personally I don't think a few months development is nearly enough time to fix what was wrong with the game. I would have preferred to hear an announcement of a new release for next year and a commitment to consult with the user community to help them shape the game for the future.

Is it Window's fault though? Sounds like the game creators probably failed to test that the game runs properly with WIN 7

Many of those suggestions above should just be additions within a game development update. I think a Gem should be something much more unique and substantial that will add value to the gameplay. Having too many packs with stuff that should already be in the game will devalue the game and increase the cycnicism that the creators are trying to extract as much cash from the players.

That sounds very annoying indeed. As it stands, I do not want to purchase this game until they get rid of the pointless online system.

MC really needed to make their mind up early on whether this game should be single player OR an MMO. I used to play WOW a lot so I don't have a problem with MMO games, and I reckon this game could be fun in that context. But what annoys me is their approach to this whole thing, as others have said. It looks as if this company is just trying to get as much money out of people by using negative means such as taking away basic things such as the mass transit from the solo game, whilst not putting on enough features for those who enjoy the MMO environment. If MC had chosen for it to be a totally MMO game in the first place it would have: a) prevented a lot of confusion, anger and cynicism b) been a welcome departure from the SimCity series, striking out into a new direction But as with many things, MC is trying to please everyone, all of the time. It is an approach which might please no-one and backfire on them.

10 days? That's just ridiculous. -
Ok, I'm playing single player, no interest in planet offer... GIVE ME AN OFFLINE launcher

This game seems to just scream: "Hand me all your $$$! We want to take as much cash off you as we can!" I hope this isn't going to be the future for gaming.... -

This is really not on. I don't think I will buy this game if you can't play this game independently off-line. -
I do think a lot of people are making judgements before the game has even been fully released. I

I am going to wait. I am hoping that the full version is going to be a lot better than the demo version. I am not interested in the MMO side of the game so will only buy the solo version if it has enough features and gameplay that makes it worth buying. I really enjoyed playing City Life and I hope this game will be a considerable step up from that. I might give Monte Cristo a chance. There may be a lot of other things up their sleeves that we don't know about.
