Pre-Orders / Activation Key / Download Issues

I ment to say, I'm in the UK and ordered the digital-download version, but I assume you would have guessed that! LOL

I got my Game in the Box Limited Edition the Handbook did not have the Key, I did not panick, I went check my Email it was there!

Before you do so, you will need this CD Key to complete the game's installation once you have received the box:

Please note that Cities XL will be officially released the 9th of October at 1am Pacific time (4am Eastern time).

Yep I got mine too. Though I don't have my CD yet..... So much for believing I'd get it before RELEASE! Bah.

But when I activated my Key online (to get my name before others could) it said I have a trail account.... Eh...

Ya so much from that, I'm in the States myself (indiana), I got an email saying I have a trail version but when I log into my account it says my PO will end in a few days. So I don't know.. I wrote support to see what they say.

I got my key today but I haven't received the game yet. I will check the mail again today (it is usually checked 1-2 times per week).

I did the digital order through the digital option on the XL Website quite some time ago.  The confirmation email came from Gamesplanet however, which was a bit confusing.  I also read that demo accounts that preordered using the same email address as is on their demo account, wouldn't be deleted - that we could just use those to register the CD Key when we get them.

Well, unfortunately it seems my account with Monte Cristo was indeed deleted, for I cannot sign in and when I try the lost password feature, it tells me my account does not exist.

I've now sent emails to both parties on these matters individually, fully to Monte Cristo, as today is the day my confirmation email said I should recieve my CD key for, and I quote, "We will send you your download links for the game via email the moment they are available then, on the day of release, the 08/10/2009 at 00:01, you'll get an email with your activation key."  Unfortunately, I haven't even gotten my Download Link email, let alone the CD Key email.

Just wanted to post this information to see if any others are in a similar boat and what they are doing or what was done to resolve the issue.

I'll reply back when I hear from either or both parties about my issues.

I got my cd keys and download links in the email yesterday (7th) downloaded just fine - installed fine, was not able to updte till today but had to create a NEW monticristo account. Funniest part is, I canceled my order, got the 39.99$ refund and they still sent me the code - yet people sit here with no code that legitimately want it. I'll play a free game, but I'm just saying, that tells me that their billing system is pretty severely mismanaged.

Not very long after emailing Gamesplanet, they sent me my download links and cd key!  Hoorah!  Downloading now.

Now all I have yet to ponder is whether I should wait to hear back from Monte Cristo about my Demo Account issue or just make a brand new account with the pre-order cd key I just got?

I'm delighted to say I got my download email with the "multiplayer" key !!! :-) Phew! Downloading now....

Being a rainy and impatient day, I went and searched for my mayor's name on their community pages and found my demo mayor and city were no where to be found, so I took it upon my own volition to decide my demo account was indeed deleted, even though I used the same email address to pre-order. 

So, I went ahead and created my new account and paid for a month's planet offer subscription.  One more file left now to download.

Huzzah!

Hope everyone else continues to have bouts of good luck as well with their pre-orders and registrations!

P.S. I first tried downloading the links directly, from the email I got from Gamesplanet.  However the download rate wouldn't go above 50kb/s and I am on 6mb/s cable.  So, I took their advice and installed the Free Download Manager and started downloading through that.  To my gleeful suprise, the download rates through the FDM are wonderful, I am just about done downloading the 2nd file at rates between 750 kb/s to 1mb/s.  So if you did the digital order through Gamesplanet, I suggest using the FDM they link to in the email with the download links.

that's because Free Download Manager opens multiple connections to the same server for a single file, so you are doubling the original speed every time you open a new connection.

Also be sure your router is properly port forwarding the FDM's ports to your computer's router ip address as well as open those ports in any firewall you have.  You probably already have it downloaded now, but for the future always make sure a download program is properly connecting through your system's firewall(s) and router(s).

The defaults were ports 6881-6889 for FDM's ports, which the user can change in settings.  I set that port range to be forwarded to my pc alone on the router network.  Then in my firewall, I went into the services area (McAfee) and added those ports to the allowed list. 

I've always done this though with all Downloading software just to be sure I get the best possible connection on my end, so my apologies for not mentioning this before if this leads anyone to better download rates.

Either way, traffic and peak times will always play a part in any server's bandwith as well as, relative, location.  I image that when I was trying, so were an unknown numbers of others, so the rate for the direct files were worse than the FDM's (with the bittorrent enabled) download rate.  My location may also be a factor as I am not sure where the server(s) are located that the files are hosted at.

..I've finished downloading the installer, installed it... registered on the site and it said your will get an email ...nothing... I had the exact same problem with the demo, I tried 3 email accounts before I did an AOL one and it went through right away. Lucky I have a few.

I'll give it a it longer then I'll go to bed :-(((

I have the same issue, MC has replied back to me earlier and said they resent it to me and still nothing? I replied back about me having  a beta account with the email I used and that the game hasn't been released yet in the US and they didn't reply back. That was about 12 hours ago, BTW I received my CD Key about an hour after my last email with MC about 4PM. I can't wait to play but I can't register!!!! Guess I will wait to the AM to play and get some sleep....

Hi i just brought Cities XL Limited Edition from D2D but when i went to download it it still says Pre-order. Even on there site it says its suppose to be out Oct. 8th.

So i was just wondering,is it out in North America?

Really wish i went to Cities XL site to buy it grrr lol.
