@simcity4fan12 - Yes release yours dummy! You won't do hours of work just so you can have it! 3.gif

Okay - when your ready just PM me - I will have 3DS Max 7 for you and ready. And don't ask how I got it etc. etc. I've been BATting for ahile. But it's a over a year since I last finished a complete project.

And if i'm not too far in the project and you have 3DS by then - You can probably do a few things to make this release sooner 3.gif

I actually like the bloomberg tower alot. We've become so afraid of making boring boxes that nobody knows how to make a pretty boxy tower anymore.

box towers were the only thing everyone knew how to make back then! 3.gif

I'm not sure if it's art, architecture, or just showing off, but complicated shapes have become the eye candy in Simcity 4. I think I'll make a pretty little box myself soon.

I get tired of working on the same thing for hours sometimes - so thats why I have various projects to keep me going. 4.gif

How's my pretty box!? 4.gif

77waterst7.jpg

I think it's prettymuch done, but I've already said that 3-4 times about this one building. I like the window textures, #3 was the right call in my mind. Otherwise it was very blah. You may have guessed that this was scaled upwards; it is. I don't know what more details I should add, if any (the only place suitable for more junk is the roof or under the first floor overhang). So... any thoughts?

Just get a slight hint of blue in those windows and your golden 3.gif

shouldn't be a hassle, just a few clicks. You've done a fantastic job on this, put in a lot of effort. A great first BAT.

@Jumpthefence- That looks great! I would add some blue to the windows like kryptowhite said. Any pics of it at night yet?

@Kryptowhite- That's not his first BAT, but if it was, WOW. 3.gif

@Swat-Medic-Thanks for the comment swat-medic! You want to do a building from New York? Well, you can pick any building you want from New York, you can suprise us. 9.gif You're a great BATer, I'm interested in what you will come up with.

Also, I forget if you've mentioned it, but do you have Photoshop, or some other image editing program?

Well I finished the right facade of WTC7. Here's a pic of the base.

    t5irzo.jpg

The textures will be edited in Gmax so don't worry about them now. I'm about to start working on the back facade. I'm gonna try to finish the back today so I can put it in Gmax today. Either that will happen today or tomorrow if time permits. The texture for the bricks look blurry on the front but that's becuase of the angle I had the view. Does anyone have, or think they can find, pics of the base on the back? I need some. Especially near the loading dock, and that small part that extends out on the back too.

Excited to see how this turns out. If you do change the texture, i would get rid of the teal blue [mortar is it?]. While it can't be seen from a distance its somewhat odd looking haha. Anyways, if you can't find images of the back, you can use a bit of artistic license, im sure it must be a pain in the asterisk dollar sign dollar sign to make a building that no longer exists.

It is a pain in my asterisk dollar sign dollar sign 9.gif, I remember just finding out that the Twin Towers weren't the only buildings destroyed that day. WTC7, the plaza buildings (WTC 3-6), St. Nicholas Orthodox Greek Church(it was the only non-WTC building to be imidiately destroyed on 9-11), 130 Liberty Street, and Fiterman Hall.

Yep blue mortar. Lol, I always find some random texture that resembles the real texture on the building to use as a base before entering Gmax.3.gif That may only be the only textured changed, the glass texture might be changed though. I might use the same glass texture I used for 130 Liberty Street, just change a few things with it and give it a bronze, orange, or red tint to it. I wish I could find a glass texture that has the Twin Towers reflecting on it, but I might only be able to do that is with making a reflection in MAX, but I still got my sketchup pro 7 trial, and its no where near over yet, so I'm not switching just yet.

I"m gonna try to find pics of the back, but its hard since that most of the pics of WTC7 before 9-11 are blocked by thousands of pages on google image search of 9-11 Conspiracies about it. On emporis, they don't have pics of the back. I know where the loading dock is, but I just want RL pics of it to see what it should look like. I have pics of Rubrik3's WTC7 and see the back of the one he was making, I could use that also.

well reflecting the twin towers would be horribly unrealistic. I could give you the whole spiel on it, but, to keep it short and sweet, if you want to do reflections, you want to reflection the ground area around the building. If you'd like, I could create a plane the size of this tower in 3ds and then render a front view so that you would have a 2d texture that reflects the ground area around the wtc. [i'd get an image to reflect obviously]

Yes it would, thanks for reminding me about that. I was thinking of how it looked looking up at the building, not the simcity4 camera view. I would appreciate it if you did that Kryptowhite! Will the image simply contain like a view of the road it was in front of? It had 2 overpass bridges that I want to BAT, but I don't think I could do the cylinder one, nor the sculpture on the plaza-like one. So would those be visible in the reflection? I'm not sure about that though, Since I'm gonna have 2 version when I re-lease it: A growable, and a ploppable landmark with jobs. For the ploppable, I want the over pass bridges on it, but I'm not sure how the lotting would work for that. I could have them as props, so the lotting won't be to huge, but that might look odd though, so I should just render a seperate one with the bridges on it and make a transit-enabled lot for it. The only problem is, I don't know how to make ploppables, or transit enabled lots.

Also, I want to do something special for the lower part that extends out of the back of the building. I'm not sure what to do with it, it was part of the Con Edison power station the building was built on top of. I was thinking having that part's windows transclusent and have something inside, like a cafe or maybe a museum for the WTC, just for a random, and nice looking detail that wouldn't make it accurate but appealing. What do you think?

I have no pics just yet, but so far I'm working on the mullions on the back and made the changed the height of the lower part more accurate according to a pic I saw. I think I saw a distant pic of that part as well that showed what's on the roof of that part. It looked like sky lights or what ever those things that go on roofs that are glass and show what's on the inside are. I think that's what it is, it might not becuase that would be useless becuase of the the building blocking that part, then again I think most buildings do that any way.

Suggestion to swat-medic, you could take care of some of the residential buildings while the other guys work with commercial and civic, that way the workload would be less.

I think a base reflection of the WTCs is acceptable. Every pane of glass deserves some reflection.

    Wtc7_from_wtc_observation_deck.jpg

If I knew how to export glass textures in the material editor to a png or something I would definitley help you.

@Kellydale2003Thanks, I think that would be a nice reflection on my WTC7. I'm not too sure about that, but can't you just right click on the texture and it will give you an option to export it?

Bad news: Its going to take me longer to finish it do to the current speed that suddenly occured. I tried many things to speed it up but it won't, so It most likely won't be put into the Gmax process today, not sure if even tomorrow. It depends on time now.

Does anyone think that's a good idea yet? I would like to know before I start on the base on the back of the building.

    It's worth a try.

I also MIGHT make Trump Tower in NYC. I just want to see the scale of the building so I created a quick scale of the building. I'm 99% sure this is accurate (except for the base). It's just a series of boxes anyway.

I can't play the game (so I can't test it). After my recent HDD recovery I am now suffering from a Hardware failure after the Windows Vista Service 1 pack update... Lame I know.

So can someone download this file > Install in plugins > and take an ingame photo?

Also can someone post a photo of it next to another skyscraper so I can see the scale of it?

    Thanks, Kelly Edwards.

(I might BAT this building if I like the way it looks in scale of the game).

So far, so good. The general shape is accurate but I'm going to be honest with, you, I'm not to sure about the base myself, not that there's anything wrong with it, I did'nt seem to find good pics of the base, because from what I saw in some of the pics, there was a shorter building adjacent to the main tower itself. You can try and look at the model pics I've found, but I'm not too sure about those either, but the model looks nice, even if it's not textured.

Well, the entire scale is actually incredibly off.47.gif

Does MAX have a tool to measure it with? It's the same height as the World Trade Center!

Lol - I knew I exagerrated the height of the floors too much! xD

But yeah - Later on tonight I will render another quickie (this time with various floor heights). This one was 7.5 M I believe.

Usually I stick with the 6 or 5.5

But oh well lol - The geometry is accurate...But not the scale!

Since you're doing recreations of real buildings that have actual dimensions, you can just make your floor heights the same as the real building's.

I wrote a mini tutorial about finding out the proportions/dimensions of things. It's in the General Discussion & Troubleshooting thread on page 26.

For recreations you can't really use generic dimensions ("4 meters", etc.) because if you're wrong, then the proportions will look wrong. You also can't use other people's BATs or the Maxis landmarks as measuring sticks, because none of those are necessarily correct either.

Also, make sure to pay attention to each floor, because all floors are not the same height within the building.

Hi kelistmatic! Welcome to the NYBT! I'm glad to finally see an updated version of your old One Penn Plaza! Great contribution. It's looking good so far, sort of hard to see most details becuase of the darkness of the textures but It looks good and just about right.
