I would go on google earth to look at the roof. The base is basically the same as most international buildings. How will the lighting look?

What's the size of the building? I ask because the last one that was released was waaaaaaaaaaay too big. It looks very nice, can't wait to see what night lights you have in store for this one.

It looks really nice, but maybe you should need some reflections...it's really hard to get dark glass right, but maybe this may be one step forward..

Plus, you might need to increase the contrast between the steel frame and the glasses in the part of the building that hasn't vertical lines on it.In bing maps you can see that it's pretty noticeable.

    It's a good start!

But I must say that your material is all wrong..

Well not all, but in a very important way wrong. Glass reflection are Fresnel reflection meaning they are minimum when you look straight (at 90 degree) at the glass and grow more evident the glancing you line of sight becomes e.g. approaching 0 or 180 degrees. At those points glass becomes perfect mirror.

Basically reflection should be stronger on the side walls than on front. On your model those (side walls) are just pitch black.

It's not easy to marry these laws of physics and SC4 but some sort of attempt is very worth while...

There are also some odd issues with your lighting setup... small thingie on the roof doesn't seem to cast any shadow...

Jumpthefence, nice work. I made 77 Water St about 5 years ago (almost to the day). It was my first skyscraper attempt.

    77waterstreet.png

Keils, very nice work. I like the window texture though, I agree with SimFox. The reflections should reflect the enviormet aroudn the building. The lower roof should be reflected in the glass. Reflective glass buildings are hard to pull of in SimCity (boy do I know lol) 22.gif

Also, the vertical metal black bands are missing from your model (I think). They're subtle but on a sunny day they're easy to spot as shown in this picture. Maybe the roof texture should be weathered a bit more, it looks too clean.

I'm still working on texturing the roof Liberty Plaza. Almost done. I did finish my 3rd NYC Subway set.

    nycsubwaystations.png

Though, the 1x1 lots seem odd since subway stations are really be on the sidewalk.

Nice subway station Hanson! I think it would be a great idea to have the subway stations as props with other lots that are modded as a subway station(sort of like Rubrik3's WTC). BTW, what's that building next to it?

Your first attempt on a skyscraper is actually good. The roof is one of the only odd things about it though. The scale is inacurate, in its widith. But you'll replace it when Jumpthefence releases his version. How come you never released it? Atleast on your website.

Your BAT of the Millenium Hilton is good to, but I agree with most, the reflective texture needs work. If you want me to, I'll take it off the STEX.

Remember these? I was working on these Brownstones for a short while but put them on hold. I had many problems getting the scale right so I started over. Not like I re-made them in sketchup then re-imported them in gmax, just deleted the gmax scene and re-imported the 3ds. file I kept. Now, I got the scale just right I believe.4.gif

That's a draft render by the way. Also, don't mind the mysterious floating window. 41.gif I compared it with the buisness man prop and my St. Nicholas Orthodox Greek Church. The final building will be W2W on a 2x3 lot.(2 tiles wide and 3 tiles deep)

And yes, there will be color and brick variations. 29.gif

Great job on that pen plaza!! 4.gif

I've been procrastinating on wether to do this tower or not. I've never actually built a "black" textured tower.

This only took me about half an hour. Went in game took a photo of the 3Zoom of the IBM than went to 3ds and did a 3Zoom render and photoshopped this tower into the game (to save me some render time - things get done faster this way 3.gif ).

So don't get too excitied. Because I'm practicing for the NWTC complex I want practice with light textures and not black. I also don't want to take my eyes off the project. me and nyc06 have been messaging each other and figuring out the project still. (no official updates). But I just dont want to delay 3.gif

I might work on it if im bored or need a break from the NWTC. (lot size 3x5)

The Trump Tower is just about correct in scale, for the game's standards. Fine work!

    Update:

I haven't changed a thing. Slammed with schoolwork.

On the plus side, I'll be rendering tomorrow.

Also, I'm an expert of ancient China and I scored 100% for my presentaton.

I'm thinking about my second NYBT model. Any ideas?

If not, I'll start with any random building I decide on.

Sorry about the lack of action.

@Jumpthefence- Don't worry about it, I've been buried in school work as well. It will be great to see the building rendered tomorrow! Congrats on your presentation! Speaking of China, and speaking of your second NYBT model, would you like to BAT a building from China Town in NYC? You can choose any, I don't know much names of BATs in China Town. Or, you can do some of the buildings next to 77 Water Street that are about the same size. Like 10 Hanover Square or the Guardian Life Building.

Here's one of the color variations for my brownstones.

    30cu1z9.jpg

That one is already rendered. So far there's 2 with different colors. What remains now is some more colors. BTW, they are actually 1x3....5.gif

@cmdp123789-We will get to those soon, be patient. And I think the Empire State Building is great for standards when the game first came out. Maybe it can be Re-BATed. Maybe...

Looks great, Although i'm not too sure about the main materials. They look more like carpeting on those walls than stone. I'm not sure but i'd assume most brownstones are made of stone? [it makes sense]. Nice models, terrific windows.

Nice nice - I like those. It's been forever since I actually had some new wall2wall developments in my cities.

Oh btw - Simcity4fan12 - If you do a neato job on that WTC that your building - and you switch to 3DS Max - You can be part of the complex 4.gif

I still need to work on it. but I think we can include your tower in it. And it's even connected through skywalks.
But here's a pointer if you didn't know what the roof looked like. And the photo was taken during the collapse of the WTCs.

@ Kryptowhite- I'm sure they did, it was a pic taken from a helicopter(since it's the side view of the building, from the Twin Towers, you would see the front and both towers had all ready collapsed in the photo, I can tell becuase of the smoke on the front came from the North Tower). Tragic day8.gif. I remember seeing some footage, before both towers fell, of WTC7 that showed the window polishers were on the building(WTC7). I definately hope they got away safely.

About the textures on the brownstones, it is stone, but its just the colors and the size of the bricks.

    @Kellydale2003- I'm sure I'll do a spectacular job on WTC7 19.gif.

@Kelistmac- I wish I could help by alot, but I don't use max yet, so I can only guess. I'm sure exporting 3ds. files and importing them into max 8 would work. But, the problem is, gmax only has one export, some plasma3d thing. I think you need to use that 3d Blender thing, I forget what's it's truly called. I hope that helps.

Here's the 3rd variation for my Brownstones. The colors are final and will be one of the many choices you have to plop them next to each other.

    28lwbxc.jpg

I'm thinking atleast 6 variations. Maybe 4. If I do 6, I think the other 3 should be change positions. As in, that greenish brown one should be where the red-orange one is and the red-orange in the spot of the greenish brown. What do ya'll think?

Here's the fourth, and final variation of my first Brownstone set.

    2cntaug.jpg

The colors are final, the building will be exported today. I'll finish lotting all the R$ and R$$ versions, then show a preview of them in the game before I release them tonight or tomorrow. How's that sound?4.gif
