Heres how the STEX rating system works.

If you make a comment you get 0 points for it to start.

To get or loose points, other members can rate your comments up or down.

If you make a bad comment it will be rated down, and if you make a good comment it will be rated up. If your comment is avarge or normal, it will just stay at 0.

Someone thought that question was bad, so it was rated down.

It's 5,001. It changes again at 10,001. And at 15,001. And presumably at 20,001.

Gotta have greater than 5000 to move up, not greater than or equal to.

Hello! I've been using this site a while now, and realised i have 3 points... I've tried searching the forums and FAQ's, but i just can't seem to figure out what they're for. I have written 3 posts/topics, and have 3 points. I read the 'milestones' forum, and people were saying they had written 6,000 posts, but had 6,500 points. So my questions are, 1) What different things can you do to earn points? and 2) What do i do with the points when i've got them? Thanks in advance for any help with this,

Well, it's a little bit unknown for me too. However, before this post, I had 29 points and made 29 posts on different forums on this site to earn them. This will become 30 after I completed this post.

As you hover your mouse over the word "points" in your "account" in the upper-right corner, you will see the text: "Points are based on your contributions to Simtropolis". By this, it can be an upload on the STEX, or a post like this one. There are probably more things you can get "points" for, as nobody has 500 uploads on the STEX, not even Pegasus, or other great uploaders.

Maybe these "other options of gaining points", or the actual use of these points, could be told more specificly by someone who actually knows more about it.

As far as I know, you get half a point for each download in the STEX, one point for commenting on a City Journal or a STEX archive and you get extra points if these comments are rated high. Furthermore, if you upload a file or update your City Journal you get points.

And obviously, you get one point for each forum post.

First of all, you joined 45 minutes ago. It takes time to earn points. Second of all, I don't think you've downloaded much stuff, or commented much in 45 minutes. If you just wait, you'll have much more points.

You don't get points for downloading anything. Maybe for uploading, but not for downloading.

You can get points by these ways:

-Posting messages

-People rate your uploads

-Uploading something

-People download your uploads

There might be other ways but I don't know them.

Sorry, i posted this forum 45 mins ago, but i've been a member nearly a month now. I may not be a veteran at this site, but i do know how to check how long someone's been a member for... I see you joined last November, but have only posted 7 comments... I'm not trying to get points out of thin air, i think month's long enough to want to know all the ins and outs of this wonderful site. And, (to my shame!) i've probably done about 100 downloads from the site (I think i have a problem) and received zilcho points for it. Not complaining - the download is its own reward!

Thankyou to everyone who gave me useful advice in my last thread. I now know all the many ways i can earn myself more points. But what are they for?? Does anyone know if these points have a purpose, or like xbox points, are they just about bragging rights? Points are based on CJ comments, STEX comments, ratings and uploads+ your post count. Your post count is the number of posts you've got in the forums.

If you want to get points then take your time to make a good upload to the stex. If it is popular then you will get lots of points for it.  Be warned however that you could loose points for a bad quality/low rated upload, so dont just make something thats bad/quick to put on the STEX just to get points, it wont work. Just rember to take your time and only upload when you think its the best that you can do.

I would consider my last upload to be "good" becsue of its rating, and its gotten me around 750 points (the number keeps going up as more people download it)
