So, what are those points for?

1,107 points for me! Mainly on the STEX.

EDIT: You know what would be a good idea? Trading in points for exclusive STEX buildings, mods, and programs. If you have enough points, you can buy an item which you want. And just incase you want to install it agian. It's yours and no need to buy it agian.

BTW, 1 point = 1 post.

Others points gained from the STEX and the new CJ section

Some other theroies might be your trixes awards, what you have uploaded on the STEX, and/or your behavior?

Well, that wouldn't really be fair to people who haven't been on the site that long, or don't post to much because they just have nothing good to say. Do you get what I'm trying to say? Maybe they could be used to trade in for... cookies? Or a little icon to brag with, in a good, none mean way of coarse.1.gif

Yes, this is kitty.

This reminds me a lot of the old Evo System we had on Sporeum. We spent nearly three years trying to figure it out with only limited success. (I have 1089 points, btw.)

No matter where you go, there you are!

I would guess Jacqulina would be pretty far up there, with her tens of thousands of posts.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I feel jealous! I only have 678 points after a year and 3 months.

I have 678 points

I wonder if there's any way for members to see other members points, or is that not allowed?

I've got 1,133 points... I can't possibly imagine how that adds up:

-Post count: 500 something, maybe 600 max

-STEX Score: 83

-STEX downloads: 17,039

I can't imagine how those numbers can be combined to get 1,133. Perhaps it's got something to do with those up/down arrows next to STEX comments?

So what I'm really trying to say is... What does the forum take into account to give me my overall score?

You've all forgotten the really important question!

How do I send my points into the negatives!?

Actually, it's probably best no one knows.

Bad things could happen.

And if anyone cares in the least, I have exactly 450 points before this post.

(This is post 193 for me, so most of my points are STEX upload based)

Good stuff. I think it would either be Jackie or Dusktrooper (who uploaded so much to the STEX AND has over 10,000 posts on this site). Or SimGoober. Or someone with a long-running CJ in the new CJ section like hotdogs or haljackey (deathtopumpkins told me that updating your CJ gets you five points).

Honestly though, I really hope these points to really mean anything; no special privileges, no special ranking...just bragging rights, if that.

By the way, that is an awesome avatar, Jasoncw! 2.gif

You got it, just bragging rights, and just for fun.

We are NOT going to have any sort of "leaderboard" to show who is in the lead, so it is not going to be a contest or a social class system.  It's just a little way for *you* to see in a semi-quantifiable manner how much *you* have personally contributed to the community (of course it is by no means scientific or abslolute)!

Only you can see your own points, it's up to you if you want to share...

And there is very much a formula for how they are calculated... but what fun would there be in revealing that, although I suppose if you had the tenacity, you could figure it out... 40.gif

Cool feature, though how do we know how much points is good if there's no comaprison 2.gif

So it's post count + total of points on your STEX comments + total of points on news items you posted + and who know what else.

And that, my friend, brings up why I'm glad no one else can see your point total: how do you put a ranking on contribution to the site?  How can you possibly say that uploading something to the STEX is more valuable than commenting on a CJ, which is more valuable than posting in a blog?  Why should someone who spams the hell out of the forums be considered more "important" than, say, you, warrior, who is part of the NAM team and has eight Trixies, but less forum posts than even I?

I'm glad that no one else can see your point total, because then that makes it a competition, and that's when things become ridiculous.  I've seen too many karma/point/reputation systems on forums go awry because people want to have the highest total (thinking it actually means something).  It should just be for fun; just for a personal gauge on how much you've done.

My thoughts, anyways.

I kind of agree with you masochist, that it can up in war. And that it should be for fun. I wrote that in a more of a "soft joke" (not sure what it is called) But when points are awarded manually, and there's a comment on why it was given, it's great to see "oh why did they get a point" then you go and see what they did, and your think "wow that's great, why didn't i see that before" etc. But on an automatic system such as this, there can't be any comments so that doesn't work : )

1409 points. Very odd, since I never made a CJ or made any contributions to the STEX (except one time that I'd rather not talk about)

But since I made this post, it's now 1410. That leaves 1,406 to my posts, and 4 points unaccounted for. 42.gif

Well, I'll tell you this much. STEX Comment, points don't go up. Rate the upload, points don't go up.

So either that's not involved, or there's a lag time to it.

    Nevertheless:

    16737points.png

It's pretty obvious that forump posts contribute one to one. 16703 points from there. That leaves 34 from somewhere else.

Hmm... let's check my one STEX Upload....

    171e9d83c6.png

Aha! Exactly 10× the rating! Bingo!

Cue dirk changing it because I've figured too much of it out in 3..2..1... 3.gif

Well, all my STEX comments prior to just now were from long before that system existed, thus explaining why no points from there.

Does downrating take away points then?

I'm pretty sure just navigating ST gives you points as well.quote>

Not prior to the points system being implemented it didn't.

This forum never has tracked time logged in. Or at least, that information's never been available to the user.

I have 1,352 posts with this post. I have 21 STEX uploads which according to dukes theory would give me about 992 points. I should then only have 2,344 points, but I don't.

It says I've got 4,285 as of this post, so that's 1,941 mystery points? I don't have a CJ or a blog and I don't go in chat. Where else do they come from I wonder?

Also strangely enough it's gone up 21 since yesterday, but I've only had a handful of forum posts and done nothing else. Makes me think it's linked to STEX downloads.

Blogs appear to have some sort of contribution to all of this too. I had 1075 but after I deleted my blog it dropped to 1069. If memory serves me correctly my blog had six posts by me.

And by using Duke's theory I still have 50 points unaccounted for.
