The most beautiful cities I visited:

- Berlin

- Budapest

- Porto

- Strasbourg

- Barcelona

What gives a citie attractiveness, it is not only the architecture or the quality of life but also the meetings that we can make in it.

Out of the Cities i've been to.

1) Minneapolis/St. Paul Metro, the same reasons why everyone else loves the city

2) Washington DC, without the capital the city wouldn't even be here

3) Rochester, Minnesota

4) Portland, Oregon

5) Sioux Falls, South Dakota (and of course my hometown!!! There is plenty of things to do here...until you've done everything)

Are we reviving this? If so, I'll play along.

Marquette, MI, USA: My college town. If someone were to offer me a decent job with benefits I would pick up everything right now and move there without a second thought. My wife is with me on this. One of the best parts about this city (and the surrounding area) is that it is so beautiful with so much to see. Since there is so little tourism, anywhere you go you will be alone. It's awesome and unspoiled.

Osaka, Japan: There is so much personality in this city, and I'm pretty happy that I got to live right in the heart of it all.

Chicago, IL, USA: I hate their sports teams. HATE 'EM. But the city itself is pretty great, with great pizza and a ton of stuff to do in pretty much any season.

Toronto, ON, CAN: This is another city overflowing with culture. I've enjoyed each time I visited it.

Toledo, OH, USA: It's my hometown and I do love my hometown. It's not super exciting, but it's comfortable and there are a few pretty nice things to do, and some really great restaurants.

Ahh, I love to see this thread being revived. I'll follow.

- Amsterdam, The Netherlands. I've been there many times and both the history, culture, architecture and people are amazing.

- Paris, France. Maybe not people's first choice since even I believe its overrated. However, I do enjoy the culture aspect of Paris.

- Toronto, Canada. Live near Toronto actually, so i've been here many times. However, I have to say this is another booming city sticking to its roots.

I am not a big city person, but I have visited quite a few of them and even lived in/around a few as well.

Not in any particular order, some of my favorites that I've actually visited or lived in include:

  • Zurich
  • Munich
  • Annapolis
  • Savannah
  • Scottsdale

I've lived in or near the following and think there are okay aspects, but don't really care for them:

  • NYC
  • Baltimore
  • San Francisco

A couple that I'd be happy to never visit again:

Of those that I've been to:

(Note the first few are all up there on a high plateau)

London, England

1. A lot of my ancestors come from London.

2. I've visited and walked about the city.

3. It's a nice city with plenty of history, nice architecture and character. The river is nice.

4. Downsides to London would be the sprawl around the city, the traffic and the impenetrable masses of tourists going to the five or so sights on their tour bus route making walking around those places a very slow affair.

Melbourne, Victoria

1. I have visited the city several times and walked to a few places beyond the city as well.

2. It is a nice city and has an interesting character. The trams are nice.

3. Downside would be the sprawl and traffic etc.

Sydney, New South Wales

1. I lived in the Sutherland Shire for about five years when I was at school. I have been to many places in and around the city, and it is the city which I am most familiar with and done the most in.

2. It is a very large city, with both the pros and cons that come with that.

3. Unlike MEL there is only one tram line. The public transport is rather dated. The ferries are nice though, especially the Manly ferry.

4. There is some nice parkland in the city, especially along the Parramatta River and in the bushland in the hinterland.

5. Downside would be the usual big city problems.

Adelaide, South Australia

1. I was born in Elizabeth and lived there for five years in the 90s.

2. It is a pleasant city and is fairly well designed.

San Francisco, California

I visited the city in 1999. It is interesting and has character.

Chicago, Illinois

Visited in 2000.

Canberra, Capital Territory

Interesting design. Visited in 98.

Chichester, Sussex

It's the closest city to where I live.

Wollongong, New South Wales

Lived there for eleven years. Has its problems. The escarpment is nice. Pity they can't make a proper track along its length. City centre needs revitalisation. University is world class, pity the city can't be too.
