The IT department of the bank I work for this month was a bit angry because somehow my desktop picture was 130 MB large (for some reason it was converted to .bmp, hence the size).

Hmm.  Just for comparison I just ran my desktop again and found the following:

 

PNG  1.9 MB

JPG   1.4 MB

BMP   8.3 MB

 

Of course there is no compression at all with a BMP.  My screen is 1920  x 1080 so that's 2,073,600  pixels.  What size image do you have, Timmie?  How did it get to that size?  Do you have something encrypted on it as well?

It was 8000*6000 pixels large, I set it as my background from Internet Explorer (that's the browser on the pc's from the large company I work for). IE converted it to .bmp, et voilà. I now use one of the Windows stock wallpapers.

September's desktop is a shot by the breeder of Geordie, my Gordon Setter pup at 8 weeks.  Poor guy had a genetic disease that took him out at age 4.  For details see link.

Ubuntu 13.10 with the dash (normally hidden).  Unity desktop.  Alternate desktops have not tested as working, so I am going to stick to this one for a while.

I've stuck with car wallpapers for I don't know how many years, but I saw these hi-res Star Wars ones and I simply could not resist using them.  Also, if anyone has a tip to get comic book wallpapers (like from the actual, comic source material and not the movies) let me know.  My folders get bigger and bigger all the time, so it would be nice to have more options!

I change every two weeks or so on my gaming computer. This is November 2013, as of last friday. My wallpaper collection is very versatile and also very interesting, from nature to  people's expressions, from Sci-Fiction to my own homemade pics and from cars to abstract images. (no nudity except for animals) I use a 800 x 600 screen on a 19 inch monitor. (I haye glasses). ;)

The cold weather is upon us, so let's think of warmer days.  This is an historic shot of my last boat during a club sail past.  There was just about enough wind to fill the foresails, but we were motoring.  From left to right: Son (James, cabin boy), Me (at the helm), Wife (first mate).  Time frame, around 1990.
