I don´t put much thought into it but a viking ship is a viking ship, good enough for me, (so now i´ll probably change it for something better):

Pa Pa- J, your avatar is taken from one Metallica, (is it album, some pic with them), i guess? The "Wherever i may roam" song comes to my mind when i see it.

I liked SpookyZalost desktop if not something pretty and good looking. Because it´s out of the ordinary and unique.

Edit: Nah it´s just one similar one it seems like.

"Them booooooones", Alice in Chains.

@Toby66 To be honest, I wouldn't know.  I just found the pic on the internet somewhere, downloaded it and resized it.

I recently switched to PoP! os so I'm trying to work out a good interface for gaming on my main rig now but thanks for the compliment toby.

it's likely that I will tweak and tinker with this one as well, though I need to get OSS support working before I do anything else. *:8)

When I'm not in Windows, I'll be in some flavor of Linux. This is my desktop on my installation of Solus, my favorite Linux distribution for general use. Solus is a rolling release distribution, which means that it's continuously updated and you never have to reinstall it. While Solus quickly gets the newest software updates, it's very stable.

What you're seeing here is the Budgie desktop environment, Solus's "flagship" desktop environment. The founder of Solus, Ikey Doherty, had created Budgie and the current Solus team maintains it. The smiley face near the lower right-hand corner is the Budgie Screenshot applet confirming that a screenshot had been taken.

My avatar is Solus's logo!

Edit: Oh, no. The Home directory is selected. It ruins my picture-perfect screenshot!

I moved over to Linux Mint 64-bit a few years back after a Microsoft update completely stuffed up my computer, currently running 19.3 Tricia with a Cinnamon desktop

Mint works the same way .... the only time I've had to re-install it was when I finally updated my computer from a single core celeron all-in-one-desktop to four core pentium all-in-one desktop.

And here's my desktop a bit more cluttered than yours

I thought that Linux Mint releases were based on Ubuntu LTS (Long Term Support) releases and thus, you had to reinstall after support was dropped for the base LTS release. Ubuntu LTS releases receive 5 years of support.

It used to be that Linux Mint was based on the non-LTS Ubuntu releases, so you had to reinstall it every nine months. That’s why Linux Mint’s version number is as high as it is.

I really like Linux Mint’s implementation of the Cinnamon desktop environment.

I tried transport games. They don’t work for me.

That could well have been the case a few years back .... I just know on mine it comes up with a message in the update menu that's says a new version of linux mint is available to install and do you want to update it and if you click yes then it does it while you watch .....

I usually play a game of cards or something while it does it .... I think from memory the last time I did it, it just asked me to re-boot once it had finished

I know what you're talking about. You're upgrading to a new version of Linux Mint. That's not considered a rolling release. A rolling release is when there's no supported version and you're just getting new package updates.

That makes sense.

.isos of rolling releases are usually snapshots with the latest packages available at the time of the .iso's creation. Solus is weird because they release snapshots, but they work toward feature releases and updates before releasing new.isos, so their snapshots are marketed as new versions of Solus.

Took a look at the solus website once I was at work .... looks good,  and probably a few years ago I might have been trying it out, but have reached a point in my life that I just want a nice stable operating system and all my games, etc to work ok on it.

I'm not trying to convert anyone. I'm a big proponent of allowing people to do what works for them. As I told Cori when she told me her gaming computer wasn’t Internet-connected, you do what works for you. :thumb:

I'm running Windows 10 on my laptop, but I'm always jealous when I read people talking about their Linux computers.  I wish I had majored in something useful and tech-related instead of what I did, but oh well.  Here's my desktop.  It's sure to change in a week or two.

It doesn't matter to me, and I don't know if it matters to you. In a study comparing Chrome, Firefox, Edge (Chromium-based), Safari, Brave, and Yandex Browser (a Chromium-based browser used in Russia), Brave was found to be the most private of the six.

If you want to know what's different between Chromium and Chrome, this is a good explanation: https://www.howtogeek.com/202825/what’s-the-difference-between-chromium-and-chrome/

The lack of those proprietary bits in Chromium means that it can be distributed through your preferred Linux distribution's package manager without issue.

Currently, I'm using Firefox. I'm wary of Manifest V3, which hasn't yet been finalized or fully implemented. Manifest defines the capabilities that extensions have in Chrome and Manifest V3 will limit the amount of filter lists that ad blockers will be able to use.

Vivaldi is another Chromium-based browser. In a Vivaldi blog post, it was stated that it would try to find ways around the limitation, for example, by restoring Manifest V2 or creating their own extensions store.

I'm very much plagiarizing this page: https://www.ghacks.net/2019/06/06/how-googles-anti-adblocking-draft-affects-other-chromium-based-browsers/

Here's my current Windows desktop. Also, I really like StartIsBack++ to replace the default Start Menu. I'm running Windows 10 Build 19041 aka Version 2004. Windows 10 Version 2004 was renamed from Version 2003 (aka March 2020) so that it wouldn't confuse people with Windows Server 2003. I, myself, was confused with the initial name.

Edit: I used Chocolatey and Ninite to install most of the applications that you see.

I picked a rather British theme ever since migrating to Windows 10. It rotates about every 15 minutes, and there are some scenes from Ireland*, N. Ireland and Scotland included in the mix.

Desktop.png

*RoI desktops I'm aware aren't in Britain but are often included in web searches and I liked them anyway.
