Well, i don't know how you guys (with a beta key) do it, but i can not play the game @ all..

I login on the splash after clicking the application icon on my desktop

The game starts up and everything is just fine

But then in yellow letters: "LOGIN ONLINE TO ACTIVATE YOUR ACCOUNT" and  "connected to disconnected" just stands there for at least 30 minutes by now..

So.. well okay... uh i can't do anything, there is no close button.. there is nothing.. just the screen with that text beneath it. So i went to beta.citiesxl.com for what? well .. logging in.. but wait.. lol.. i can't!! because they're down! .. hold on a minute, they say we still can play the game, but we can't .. as we need to LOGIN to ACTIVATE .. the account..

great!

Now it's night and everyones to sleep.. and we'll have to wait till tomorrow.. great job!! just paid 18 dollars for nothing.. ?

uuum sorry you cant frame anyone if you buy a key for a beta what is actually an unfinished and timly limited product.

Btw are the game servers down currently for maintanance.

I can not play offline also .. thats the whole deal..

they make it internet dependable .. while i only try to play 'offline'.. so we still need a internet connection to play offline.. thats kinda weird don't you think?

It's an online beta test.  If they had an offline mode, then people could just download it and pirate the game.

Yes, it stinks that you can't create an account right now, since their site is down.  Hopefully it'll be up tomorrow.  Why'd you pay $18 for this, though?

i paid 18 dollars for FilePlanet (to get a key).. didn't want to guess words all night so i just paid for a key..

I had te same issue with my game initially. as soon as the server came back online it worked fine. just be patient.

(for the record, I got my beta key for free from a german gaming site. lol)

I believe this beta is to mainly test the online component of the game. The final retail game will be playable offline singleplayer.

personally, the online version was what I've been waiting for anyway. It's what makes this game so much different.

Their website does in fact say you can play offline...and so does the login screen. So why doesn't it work?

Simple

Need to activate game first, and have to verify activation each time you play.  If server go down you pretty have to wait it out

The game can be played offline if game activated and verified.

This is put in place to stop piracy and to tests server stresses so when game finaly releases most network issue are fixed.

I' m getting the standard windows message that says CitiesXL_Game.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. This is after I connect and click the play offline button. Can anyone help? Maybe I'll have to wait until I get to my desktop instead of boot camp on my mac laptop.

Also? Can I run the beta on 2 computers by logging on to the server on the other computer? or do I need another key?

Good Question about dual pc playing game

I tried cities xl on windows 7 rc1 works fine no updates or patches required to install or play.

I use Xp service pack 3... It shouldn't be too difficult to get .net framework and that other Microsoft thing they ask for.

They are trying to run two websites right now, and both with a LOT of traffic, so of course they are going to go down, once the game is out they will not need the old website, and will have made more preparations. Playing on a laptop doesn't sound like a very good idea, and playing on a Mac doesn't sound like a very good idea, so obviously it probably wont work. These days you can get internet anywhere practically (at least in the UK), there's mobile broadband, and internet cafes etc, so really pretty soon games that rely on the internet won't be a problem.

For all of you having problems, if you go to beta.citiesxl.com and login (when the site is up), you can go to "support" and look through the "known issues," the "FAQs'" and then if you still haven't figured it out, you can create a "support ticket." Coming here to report problems you are having and ask for solutions sort of defeats the purpose. This is a beta and Monte Cristo needs and wants to know what problems people are having and they want to come up with solutions.

Yes mine it still doing this it is really pissing me off, i tried to download the thing on cities xl website with no luck,

and i redownloaded the game twice, i have no clue what to do

please help if you can
