Welcome to the new, official textures thread. This thread has one purpose, and one purpose only. To act as a repository for posting textures. Try to keep discussion to a minimum, but if you have a nice texture to post, or if you have a link to a site with some good textures, post them here. Textures should be posted directly inside your post, as high of quality jpegs as you can afford and still upload. Links should be posted with a name and a short description of the kinds of textures on that site.

Thanks for getting this thread up DM.

There are 2 large files for 3DS MAX that contain about 500 texture files between them.

Architectural Materials (131mb)
3dS Max Sample (66mb)

They are large files but if you are into making good buildings, they are a must.

One of mine; Glass

It looks better when the translucentcy has been raised.

Thanks for the thread, as well as the links. I loaded up the BAT for the first time last night and quickly realized that I have no idea how to make the textures I needed, or where to get them. Googling helped a little, until I noticed that everybody's repository usually shared the same set of textures 23.gif

This has to be one of the best texture pages I have ever found. I work a LOT with 3d modells to buildng real-time environments and this site has been really useful.

I'm looking for a flat tin roof texture. I don't know if ribbed is the right word. There are heaps of corrugated tin textures around (i.e. the sine wave profile). I'm after something like (sorry for the ascii line art)...

I'm still searching the various links people have added here, but not found anything yet.

Here is a site i made. There are about 200 some textures here. I found them on the web, and they were used in Unreal Tournament as map textures. The site might load a little slow for modem users since the front page has a gallery of all the textures in thumbnail view. I think these textures would look great on ghetto residential or industrial. I also place the link on my sig for future reference.

All u will ever want brick texture link:

Once there, look left and u'll see the word Architectural. Don't click it. Just put your mouse over the word & a window pops up. Select the type of brick (many to choose from) then click show, then save the brick image.

The following textures are from MaxisBrian from the thread Using Gmax, advice, tips and feedback. Since they were scattered across 342 posts, I've gathered them here; they point to the same image file as the original posts.

i think i've been doing well with GMAX and my buildings but one question i have, what is the purpose of the regular maps versus the bumps? I haven't seen a specific purpose for using multi-materials on any part of a building such as the roof plus bump...
so just as a simple question, what is the purpose of the bumps and can you please show screenshots because sometimes words dont explain it properly? 23.gif

FYI, I've put some info in the Photoshop tutorial about creating your own textures with 1) a digital camera and 2) using the texturizer filter in Photoshop. See the link in my sig.

You can save them anywhere you want.   I created a matlib (material library) folder with lots of subfolders.  The important thing is to tell GMax where they are located.  Do this throught the customize folder... configure paths... bitmat and add.

http://textures.forrest.cz/ - good resource i used to use back in the day.

We have a massive library of textures at EA that we tend to draw from.

The big part about getting chrome right is to use an environment type map instead of explicit UV. There is a tab in the map panel of the material, under coordinates. Set the mapping type to Environ and try a cylidrical or spherical map.

You dont need Gmax to do bump maps, as long as you have a Image editing program such as Photoshop.

Here is my way of doing bump using Photoshop, Fast and Easy!
From this:

To this:
/idealbb/files/Brick21.jpg

From this:

A little late here but oh well...

@geekdestroyer

Your bumped brick texture looks inverted as the motar appears to be strongly highlighted now, as if its sticking out beyond the bricks.
