just think, if only you picked the pats game right 3.gif [yes i will not forget that]

you've got a chance to get redemption this week though. 3-1 Pats going for a third straight win over an unbeaten team against the incredibly underrated Broncos.

We are gonna find out a lot from this game. Are the Bronco's underrated or overachieving? Are the Patriots Super-Bowl Good, or just "typical patriots" good. Or if they get blown out, were the last two weeks just a mirage?

They did it twice at home. Now can they do it on the road in Denver?

    Here's my Week 5 picks:

    (Picks in bold)

    Cleveland at Buffalo

    Dallas at Kansas City

    Minnesota at St. Louis

    Oakland at NY Giants

    Tampa Bay at Philadelphia

    Pittsburgh at Detroit

    Washington at Carolina

    Cincinnati at Baltimore

    Atlanta at San Francisco

    Jacksonville at Seattle

    Houston at Arizona

    New England at Denver

    Indianapolis at Tennessee

    New York Jets @ Miami

*Note: Tampa Bay & St. Louis will be the only winless team in the NFC if Carolina wins, and Tampa & St. Louis wins. Which makes me wonder, why did the Bucs fired Jon Gruden.....weren't they good when he was wearing the main headset?

sigh* I came on here last night after a party, typed up a long response to the merits of the Bucs firing Gruden, and then somehow deleted it...

To summarize what I said, I think John Gruden had let his team regress since their super bowl victory, which he won with a roster that was not really his. He failed to develop any young offensive stars in his tenure, and his rotation of quarterbacks that failed to produce any stability also contributed to his firing. The Bucs were well within their rights to fire Gruden. However, their biggest mistake, in my opinion was hiring such an inexperienced coach to run the franchise. Just because someone talks a good game, doesn't mean they play a good game; how many politicians are also rocket scientists?

Morris may or may not be a liability, but with the roster he has, replete with youngsters and journeymen, you can't expect the Bucs to be good this year. The fact is, the Bucs are rebuilding, which generally takes several years to complete if you aren't the Raiders or the Lions. The key here more than anything will be in personnel decisions. John Gruden inherited a loaded roster full of veterans and maximized their talents into a Super Bowl, but he failed to replenish that talent on the roster as free agency and age led to its decline. Draft well and Morris will have a talented, competitive roster and credit for the Bucs success; draft poorly, and he will be blamed and fired just as Gruden was.

has anyone heard of this UFL football league? I actually watched the leagues first game last night and quite frankly, it didn't feel like a professional football game, it felt more like a college game. Almost no fans in the stands and refs that wore black slacks and red shirts, florescent green first down markers and padding around the goal posts. I bet this doesn't get past the first season [which ends Nov 27]. Only 4 teams in the league, Las Vegas Locomotives [say what?], California Redwoods [whose uniforms have no red in them, just white and florescent green], Florida Tuskers [what in Gods name is a Tusker?] and the NY Sentinels [the only good name in the bunch]. If anyone is interested, the games are on VS [Wed or Thurs] and HDNet [sat]. Link to the official website.

I'm guessing this UFL will be about as succesful as the USFL was and maybe a bit more than the XFL was.

The problem with these leagues is that they try and compete with the NFL. Ain't gonna work. Maybe if they held their seasons in the NFL's off season, they 'may' survive. I know I wouldn't mind a little more football during the year. 16 games just isn't enough.

They will never  make it, If they cant keep arena football going ( it been around 15 years) this will never take off.

I watch enough other sports that the few monthsoff football don't matter much. Only bad time is early February - the Superbowl is over, and NASCAR hasn't started yet - and baseball is a while from starting.

Thanks easy bakes for pointing that out.

@MattShizzle, yea, that part oh the year (Feb-Aug) can get pretty boring, sometimes, although there is college basketball.

I'm not interested in college sports in the slightest. NASCAR actually starts in late Feb and anyway Baseball, NBA and NHL are all going on in at least part of that time.

They should run it from april to august....Think about how pumped up for football people get during april when teams are adding players from the draft and free agency. Then think about how boring the next two months are when nothing happens.

That might work. I think an even better idea might be a minor league football team during those months - for guys who are good football players but not cut out for college. Then colleges wouldn't likely be able to cheat to get good players who weren't that smart and those players could fairly get in to the NFL - face it - there are a lot of guys who are definitely not college material who are/would be good football players.

    Week 5-

    *drumroll*

Cleveland over Buffalo-you could call this an upset, but what exactly would cleveland be upsetting?

    Dallas over Kansas City-Dallas isn't that bad...yet....

Minnesota over St Louis-AP's gonna make Steven Jackson look like Laurence Maroney....and not just because of the air.

Giants over Oakland Failiures-Easy week to pick eh?

Philly over Tampa Bay-Even if Vick was starting at quarterback....

Pittsburg over Detroit-Detroit had its 15 minutes of fame...time to go back to losing..

Carolina over Washington-Its basically who sucks more. I think its Washington.

Baltimore over Cincinnati-Ravens stop complaining about the refs for once and play a little football.

Atlanta over San Fransisco-Big game for whoever wins...i'd say they are evenly matched but Atlanta is coming off a bye and a loss...

Jacksonville over Seattle-Jacksonville is better than people think...but not by much.

Houston over Arizona-I'm waiting for Houston to make the playoffs, since i predict them to every year just for fun.

New England over Denver- Let's get high. Mile high.

Indy over Tennessee-Hitting a field goal will be a moral victory for the Titans right now...

J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS over Dolphins- Just because the Browns got rid of Braylon to try and pursaude Lebron to not go to New York, doesn't mean that I was stupid to trade for him in Fantasy football. I'm calling 20 receptions, 354 yards, and 3 TDs monday for Braylon. JK he probs won't even play.

I think I will follow the format everybody else is using for their picks on this thread for the rest of the season, so we don't have any mix ups. Maybe it will help me catch back up to first place too 3.gif

Gah, even if the Patriots or the Broncos win in their game, I don't think either one can still lay claim to the title of "really" good team; if the Patriots win, the Broncos will be dismissed as a not very good team that the Patriots should have beaten anyways and proves nothing to their legitimacy this year, and if the Broncos win, they will be have won it over a washed up team with a defective quarterback on his last legs. This has just been a very fluky season.

What do you mean?  I don't use any formula to make my picks if that's what you're referring to, I just pick the team I think will win the game, no science behind it, no scrunching numbers, stats, odds or any of that other stuff.  Sometimes, like this week, I may add a note to my pick, but that's usually based on a gut feeling and nothing more.

?If you look closer, I said "format," not formula.  Everybody else uses a pick layout showing home and away team with their picks in bold (like so; Dal @ KC ), while I have been using a layout that has the winning team over losing team (Dallas over Kansas City).  Easy Bakes getting confused with my layout made me realize that there could always be potential confusion down the road because of my layout, so I will use what has been the standard picking layout (Dal @ KC) on this thread, for the rest of the season.  Not a big deal or anything either, lol 2.gif  Hopefully this post is coherent enough to clear the air 4.gif

Can't wait for the Cowboys game!  43 minutes til kickoff, with maybe a few more minutes added on because games never make announced kickoff times.

ps:  Is there a special function that allows you to quote other people's posts like blade2k5 did in the post above me?  Or do I have to copy and paste, then edit the quote?
