Nice little streetfront building. I can say from experience that these kinds of places are fun to make. I don't know if it's the HD close zoom but it feels oversized. I'm glad you're planning a non-hd version. I never go down to the closest zoom so hd on my machine is just wasted resources.

UMmmmmmmmmm why would you not make them HD???!?! these are the perfect HD buildings!! Hhaa I love them! great textures, good modeling, lets see some nightlights!!

I really like your style, older brick buildings, the buildings you have created are some of my favorites!! Also how do you create such good roof textures? Im asuming you make them in photoshop?

These will be really nice for the game. My thoughts are that the windows could be a little darker, and that each one will need its own roof texture (since they'll be appearing in a row next to each other).

Probabably because HD is a bit of a gimmicky thing, and foubles the filesize or more, it's not recommended to render your BATS as HD... it really won't serve any purpose, since there are so many SD buildings out there, and it will take a looong time before having enough HD buildings to replace the SD ones.

As we get more HD buildings, the game load times and general speed will decrease a lot as well.

Because todd has to render about 20 props in SD and HD (that takes about 3 times longer each one to render).... I did a big prop pack via 3dsbat earlier ago.. I must say it is a pain...

HD is a nice gimmick for stuff like bus stop signs or other traffic signs in general, which would otherwise be reduced to some blurry pixels. Smaller items like these don't have such a huge file size, either, so it doesn't matter that much if they are in HD.

However, from my point of view I wouldn't use HD for buildings, and I don't care for HD buildings. I like much of the Maxis content, which will never be HD. Hence, I gotta second what Glenni said in this respect.

Gotta agree with bixel here - I personally never zoom in to level 6, no matter what the definition; so the whole phenomena of HD, be it "gimmicky" or not, is totally wasted on me personally.

I love love LOVE these new buildings, SimHoTToDDy.  They're exactly the style of stuff I'd be doing if I committed myself to finishing multi-story Main Street style buildings (my recent spate of movie theaters excluded).  I'm super picky and finicky about downloading custom BATs, but I'd be first in line to get these when they hit the STEX, I love them that much.  The texturing is perfect.  I look forward to seeing these finished!  Great work!

Wow guys, I guess I hit a HD nerve here 3.gif

While I would love to appease both parties, I have quite a few models to export (26 after you add in the mirrored versions) and the thought of doing it again (that's a total of 52 folks) makes me want to rock back and forth in the corner mumbling obscenities. So I'm going to pass on that... for now.

I took your suggestions into consideration, made the windows a tad darker, made the roves more unique per building, and adjusted some colors here and there. I also completed a few corner buildings to cap off these blocks. So far I have 2/26 models exported and ready to go and I'm hoping to get these buggers moving. Thankfully they take less than a minuet to export, so If I'm in the right groove, I can get several done at a time.

I'll post some pics when I can assemble a line of them in LE 3.gif

I do love your work, Todd, the textures are simply amazing. I suppose all your BATs will be on my *must_have* list 4.gif.

Although the Steel Production Inc. is released, I'd have a small suggestion for further similiar releases. As you pay so much attention to the texture details, don't forget to add some waterstains. The roof in the PSP Inc is plain and gabled, so such sediments (rusty and non-organic, mostly - you have enough installations on the top) should be quite visible on the dark roof surface.

Well, I have officially been BATing for one year. It feels like longer than that but when putting it in perspective it really isn't long at all.

    I went from making:

    shtonekalimgradr01frontfq6.jpg

    and

    shttwokalimgradr05jo8.jpg

    To things like

    SHT_Pripiat_long_block_V1_2008_n-3.png

    and

    Warehouse_HD-5.jpg

I only have you guys who guided me to becoming a better BATer to thank, I probably would have never gotten past those first few buildings without you 43.gif

Here's to another great year! Thanks again everyone,

    -Todd
