Very nice update... a word of advice though: there is a character limit for posts on the forum... its HUGE, so you' probably won't hit it, but just be sure to back up your updates... they may inadvertently be lost if they are on the long side 4.gif

    molowakuannouncement.jpg

There is only one announcement: from today, new, sleek banners for my City Journal will be released to show my region's exciting growth and development. Albeit being simple, the new banner look is modern-looking as well. The inspiration of the new banner set comes from a popular newscast from London, BBC London News. Enjoy!

    molowakureplies2.jpg

Webster is a small town that really has a great and unique character, in my opinion, and it has been one of my favorite small towns to date because it is simple, easily laid-out, and decent scenery. With its large boulevards, a simple downtown, and a hilly subdivision all blended into one fantastic city, I believe that Webster is my first step in creating more decent little towns for Molowaku Island. I read through your comments, and I believe that my town is just a step in creating a great CJ, and I want to thank all of you for your comments.

And now, for my replies to your comments:

blondetwiggy: Thanks, twiggy! I know that I actually forgot to turn off the infamous UDI zots on some of my pics... but anyways, those are all right because I have turned off the zots in the next pictures. I know also that many people want to get "confused" when they drive through a one-way road -- making the wrong turn too! 3.gif But, I kept the one-way arrows for a purpose: my sister (age 11) plays SC4 with me sometimes that she really gets confused when she does the UDI tasks at SC4, especially when she goes through one-way roads that are sometimes confusing because I have alternating one-ways! Speaking of pavements and fillers, do you have any idea what my missing filler/s are for my Easy Forest series because I don't like the black areas to be seen; I just like the grass fillers! Well, for a home, wait until around Update 5 or later updates because I'll be making more homes and shopping centers along the way... Stay tuned!

psycho teddy: Thanks, Robert! I like putting in some "spice" in my cities, especially focusing on the SAM (Street Addon Mod), in which it is just one of the many custom content that I can add for my cities and towns, and I like putting in more of them for the next cities as well because I like adding just the important custom contents that will enhance the city (adding too much of it, though, will destroy a city or town's natural growth and look). It's something I like to do, and I use them moderately!

jacqulina: Well, Jacky, I know that you read a lot of user-made CJs, and I am so happy for you because I know that you are interested in getting to know the different CJ styles that exist in ST. I like the red-colored streets, and it's very interesting that you like the red streets, thanks to the SAM. I really like my transport system, especially that I describe the various modes of transport available in every town and city in Molowaku, and I really make sure that all the towns and cities are provided with adequate forms of transit that the people deserve. Take your time to read all other CJs because I know that many CJs keep on growing all the time, and I am happy that my CJ is growing quickly...

calispell: Why thank you, my friend! I like those two buildings too from Update 1 (Ocean View), and I just like making big and small cities together! It really takes me some time to work on the interesting CJ I have, and I believe that (although not yet fully developed), it's starting to pay off bit by bit. There will be more adventures on my CJ, and stay tuned because there will be mroe city and town profiles on the way! With that regard, in return, I will also be watching your Sims Story, the Bergame, wherein I would like to see whether or not your diary will grow and turn into more drama and action! I'll also be looking forward to your subsequent replies too!

qinbenjiaren: Why thank you! Those red streets were made thanks to the Street Addon Mod (SAM), in which it allowed me to create such distinct roads! There will be more use of the SAM in the next updates, so keep watching on my CJ for more! I also like the red streets that I picked for my city too because those bring in some "unique taste" to a town that has grown from hardship, and now, it is growing fast thanks to economic development in the town.

renas: Thanks, renas! I know that I am making better and better towns, and it looks like my town and city planning skills are paying off bit by bit. But, this is just the beginning of a long and fun adventure, in which I want to share my region's growth and development with you! It is really my privilege to create such towns for your pleasure and inspiration, and I hope that this CJ will make you think about developing cities and towns differently. There will be an update right after all of the comments, so feel free to scroll down all the way to the "City Journal Update" section for the next update!

tv-vcr: Thanks a lot, Chris! I also love the plaza I made in the center of town, and that reminds me of the Panhandle here in San Francisco (minus the trees for SC4 -- too bad), along with the flyover and the Easy Forest series as natural barrier. Yeah, I really thought of using the Easy Forest series as the barrier between the main roads and the houses because I believe that trees absorb the carbon emissions from cars, and I don't know about this -- lessen car noise too? Hehehe 9.gif Anyways, I like the layout of the town, especially Hayward Village -- it's somehow inspired from the Russian Hill district of San Francisco wherein the streets are hilly and straight -- many of them have steep streets that makes you to really keep your brakes as you descend the hill too! I really love Webster too... as much as I love my Molowaku Island region! 9.gif

theirishnintendonerd: Thanks for your comment, Trevor! I really love making simple but impressive towns and cities, and I just like making them, bringing along the unique character in them too! I also like the simplicity of the town as well, along with the NAM and SAM use because I know that those employ decent transit connections for everybody. I also like what I did for downtown - a simple boulevard in the middle with parks that run along the middle north to south as well - that really made me think of a decent square somewhere else! Looking forward for your next reply too.

porter66083: Thanks, Jacob! I have been hearing from other users that I use a lot more custom content, but it's all up to me whether or not I'll have more custom content, and so far, I think I have not caught up with any of their wishes because I want my towns and cities to grow naturally, and I know that it will take a lot of time, in my opinion, to grow custom content BATs in my cities. Thanks also for your comment on the transportation stuff I use too -- I know that transport is a vital factor in running a great city, and so far, I think I have been answering to the needs of the citizens for great transit connections. I just love making towns and cities, and it is something that I want to share with you as we go along. I just love SC4 that from the time I started playing with it five years ago, I became hooked! 9.gif Looking forward to your subsequent comments.

newyorkrunaway1: I know that I have some missing textures, and tell me which ones are those, especially for the Easy Forest series, in whcih it remains a mystery to me. I have not said anywhere in my CJ, though, that my cities and towns will be of realism-style: what matters is that I create the cities in my own style, in which, I hope, you think about it. Each one of the CJs here on Simtropolis has its own unique style, and so far, many people like the style of the towns and cities I made. I will take your suggestion, though, about buildings and homes -- the towns I am making right now are suburbs, and there will be chances wherein big businesses come to town, and tall buildings rise as a sign of economic progress. It is something that I like doing, and I would love to share more of my cities and towns with you... stay tuned for the next update!

sim1234: Thanks, Nick, for your comments! Webster's town profile is interesting, to say at least, because it is one of my so-called "rags to riches" story wherein a town that was under economic and social turmoil during the colonial era has risen itself into a stable and growing town that allows more development and people to come in. Also, I believe, the road layout and the SAM blend in hand-in-hand with each other, forming roads that are easy enough to navigate... it is something that I have thought about for quite some time when I studied town and city maps, and what I discovered was that suburban areas need not to be curved or griddy all the time; a combination of the two or more patterns will really work, and I think that worked well with Webster. Yeah, I still have the "Mystery of the Tree Fillers" -- if you have any idea what textures I am missing, please let me know.

haljackey: I know, hal... I know that I love the grid system so much that I patterned that one to San Francisco (and somehow, Kyoto too in Japan). I think that the diagonal avenues add a touch of realism to the town, but, guess what, it is quite hard to get away from the grid system, especially I have been doing that for some time! Well, I plan the cities and towns according to some sort of maps (I even borrowed from the library some travel guides to African countries so that I can see what road patterns I could borrow and adapt to my cities! I also have my UDI zots off for the newer pics -- thanks of course to rushman5's advice, and now, you get to see the town more clearly. I also like how I made the diagonal avenue to blend it along with the grids... I have been a griddy person since I started playing SC4, and it's something I would love to keep. I also like the SAM and one-way combinations for my city -- those two just blend well together, I believe, and the town looks quite fantastic in my opinion!

rushman5: Thanks, Sean, for your comments and info -- I know now what to do when that happens again: destroy the similar buildings like that, pop up some parks or play structures, and keep it that way! I believe that my town really feels homely, and it's something that I have not expected because that town is meant to be a suburban town from a large city, but, it's something of a different town, unique in character and shape. I also like the avenue overpass, as many have made comments on it, and it is such a fantastic addition to my town, I believe, because that shows my style of how I build cities, and it is something I like doing!

purpledaddy: Hehehe... what made you think that my town profile was produced by a RL Chamber of Commerce? Is it because of the detailed descriptions I made with my towns and cities? I think it's more produced by the Molowaku Tourism Bureau, to be honest, because I am giving you some sights and features of the town as well, but, thanks for your opinion! I could be running a Chamber of Commerce too for Molowaku... 3.gif

pcguy14: Thanks a lot, Stephen! I just like Webster how it is, and I believe that my update was again well-presented and documented. I hope that you will like the rest of my city and town profiles, and I will be looking forward to your next replies too! 4.gif

ntq$310: Thanks for your comments! Really -- you like my CJ? Why thank you very much for that! Of course, there's always room for improvement, as you notice -- the towns are actually in rough sketch at the moment, but, as I go along with my CJ, I will just post any new developments from any of my towns in either the City Journal Update (town or city development) or Recent Developments section (town, city, or national news) that will make you see what my cities, towns, and Molowaku Island are up to. I am actually building up my cities and towns with the various mods you have mentioned (slope mod, streetside tree mod, hill development), along with more custom content as well. I am just taking my time in building my cities because I just want to grow them naturally, as in I want to let the Sims grow whatever they want to grow -- it may be necessary for me to put in tons of custom content, but, I want to build more of them as I advance my region further. I know that there will be some users, like you, who will tell me to improve my cities even further to make the cities look realistic, and I accept those opinions very openly because I know those will bring in more inspiration to make my cities even better. Again, I want to thank you for supporting my CJ, and I will strive to make my cities look better.

greekman: Thanks for your interest on my CJ, greek! I love stating great historical backgrounds for my cities and towns, even for Molowaku Island as a whole! If you want to read my next update, scroll all the way down through the rest of my comments and go under the banner "City Journal Update" for my next city or town profile! Hoping for more comments from you soon too! 9.gif

blue sinjid: Thanks a lot, my friend! I know what the mod is (the so-called Commercial Demand Mod) in which I can keep my commercial job demand at high so that businesses will keep on growing, but, as of the moment, I have no plan of adding it to my Plugins folder because when I build my cities, the demand for commercial zones is mostly high, so there's no reason for me to have the mod at the moment. But, anyways, thanks for your suggestion!

cdg0219: Oh really? What made you say so? I think it's the basic structure of the town that makes you think that it came from the British times. I believe that I am faithful to the original British structure of various towns, and that the British roots are again integrated in the Town Profile as well. I believe that the airport (tell me which one - on Update 1 or 2) looks really great, and it's relative to the town size; I also like the semi-suburban areas too that I made so that you can feel like you may want to live there too! Well, I just strive myself to make great cities (albeit realistic in many sorts) because this is one thing that I really enjoy doing, and that it's something I cherish upon. The red streets are there thanks to the SAM (Street Addon Mod), which adds a nice touch to suburbia, and I also like the surroundings of my cities and towns as well because I just want to have a natural flow of my CJ. Keeping myself up in writing my CJ, along with adding fantastic pictures into it, will make people read more, and I believe that what I am doing right now of showing my CJ is paying off bit by bit because many people like seeing my CJ. For all that you said, I would like to thank you very much for your support!

b22rian: Why thank you, my friend! I know that many CJs are being overdone nowadays (close to like overbuilding them with lots of tall skyscrapers or tons of custom content to make sure that their CJs are close to realistic, which is by the way not my goal in my CJ), and it's quite hard to understand why people want their cities to be really close to becoming realistic when it is actually harder than many think to copy the exact configurations of a city (say like London or Los Angeles as examples), but I just enjoy creating my region as how I like it -- small and large cities that have unique backgrounds, intertwining to the history of Molowaku Island as well because I want to express to the readers what I actually like in building the cities and the historical background behind every town and city I make. Thanks also for your comments about my CJ being nicely balanced, my efforts into creating such a simple (yet long) and expressive (yet sometimes complicated) CJ, and the town and city statistics I placed in the beginning. By the way, the table you saw at the intro is just a partial list of what the names of my cities are... be sure to look at every update I make (there's a new one after all of your comments) so that you can see a town or city profile that I hope you will enjoy and keep coming back for more. Overall, I would like to express my gratitude to you for your comments on my CJ, and I am looking forward to your subsequent comments to my updates soon! 4.gif

nihonkaranws: Whoa! Page 4 so quickly?! That must be a lot of replies from the ST community! Thanks for your comments also about my SAM and my Maxis looking beautiful because I really make my cities simple and unique that I want to make the best of them! My towns and cities look simple and easy to navigate, but, I really made a lot of effort to create great towns and cities. It really takes my patience, creativity, and my own personal touch to make my CJ look great, and I believe that my CJ is starting to pay off for being a great journal.

vampiregirl: Something catchy, eh? Well, guess what, stay tuned because the "catchy" things that you want may be seen on the next updates! And by the way, what do you mean of what you said "I like the spread"?

cheese89: Thanks a lot, Kevin! Well, I did not know that there is actually a character limit on each post I make, but, so far, I have had no problems with my postings because I don't hit the text limit just yet. Also, can you teach me how to archive my CJ so that my journal will retain its character and form from ST? I just want to learn more stuff about how to archive the CJ I am making because I don't want to lose it when another "server attack" happens just like what happened a while back. I will take your advice and suggestion because I know those will help me a lot.

manubeas: Why thank you for your comments, manu! I thought about breaking the grids and putting in diagonals to add some "realism" to my town... despite the fact that I personally like the grid system because it's easy to navigate around town, and it's simpler to make than diagonals and curves! hehehe... 9.gif Anyways, being a chat operator does not mean that I get more replies on a CJ than most, but, it's just that I spread my CJ around effectively really helps in garnering more people to read and comment on my CJ.

Now with all my comments done, manubeas told me that he's looking forward to Update 4, and here is Update 4...

Paseo del Mar: A Quaint Little Town Far From City Life

    Founded:                                     1806

Present Mayor:                            Lori Santa Maria (1806-present)

    Number of Council Members:       4

    Congressman:                              Albert Amarillo (1801-present)

    Elevation:                                    30 meters

    Population:                                  12,300

    History

Paseo del Mar started its life as an annexed district of the City of Leicester, its neighbor to the south, wherein it was manned by Joseph Vargas (served from 1797-1805). But, as the district started to grow, many people protested the leadership of Mayor Vargas wherein he spent his time beautifying the City of Leicester while ignoring the concerns of Paseo del Mar. The people had partnership problems with the mayor regarding various issues, such as schools, police enforcement, and transportation because he provided extensive transport to the City of Leicester while ignoring the needs of Paseo del Mar, thus the roads in the district became rough and impassable during the rainy season. Fortunately, though, a reversal of fortunes happened when the Economic Planning Chief of Leicester, Lori Santa Maria, also from Paseo del Mar, expressed to Mayor Vargas of his woefully inadequate actions to the Paseo del Mar district. She commented the mayor as "arrogant, irresponsible, and unacceptable to the city" because he has given all his time lavishing himself in great parties while the Paseo del Mar district suffers from bad policing and transportation. The two then had a debate at Leicester City Hall in November 1805 of what the mayor could do to Paseo del Mar because he failed to notice the economic and social turmoil the town has been facing: high unemployment, students dropping out of school, and low income families being prevalent. Then, on January 1st, 1806, Mayor Vargas gave up the Paseo del Mar district and gave the new town to Lori Santa Maria as a result of a deal that costed MR 25,000,000.

Now, Paseo del Mar's image is a growing one. Mayor Santa Maria improved the health, educational, and social stature of the town by fixing unrepaired hospitals, establishing more private schools and a college, repaving the roads and streets, and adding more parks to enhance the beauty of the town. She also inaugurated a marina for the boat-loving people to enjoy the seaside, and she also established a new ferry service between Leicester and Paseo del Mar, with other destinations coming soon. She also preserved the land that former Mayor Vargas wanted to develop, as well as renaming the stadium in town as the 3 Telecom Stadium. With all of those developments, the town is slowly gaining a better image from the rest of the region as well because it really made great developments to make the town look pleasurable. In 1820, Mayor Santa Maria also inaugurated the Michael Ishikawa Museum of Photography at the Molowaku Civic Center next to Saint Joseph's Church where digital photography art shows take place regularly.

    People and Culture

The people of Paseo del Mar are a simple, humble folk, with a diverse population of Asians, Pacific Islanders, and some Europeans. Many people also have homes and businesses close to the waterfront as well, allowing a more diverse town. There are several events that happen in town, including

    :

Feast of Saint Joseph: March 19th, Saint Joseph's Church

Del Mar Farmers' Market: Every Friday from the 1st week of April to the last week of October, from 9am to 1:30pm at the Molowaku Town Square

Molowaku DigiArt Expo: Entire month of June, Michael Ishikawa Museum of Photography

Del Mar Regatta: 2nd weekend of July, Paseo del Mar Marina and waterfront

Pyrotechnics Show and Competition: 1st week of December, Paseo del Mar Marina and waterfront

    Economy

Paseo del Mar is a small, thriving community with common businesses including small shops and restaurants. There is Century Theaters in town, the largest employer for Paseo del Mar, along with the Del Mar Hotel, a four-star resort hotel featuring a swimming pool, gym, and tennis courts. The town also has some farms as well that grow various crops, such as citrus, maize, and barley, and it makes decent profits for the town every year. With the 3 Telecom Stadium close by, many athletic events take place in Paseo del Mar, the most prominent of which being the football games of the Del Mar Warriors, thus boosting the economy by ticket and merchandise sales. Bookstores and grocery stores are also available in Paseo del Mar, with a branch of Borders and Sainsburys.

The town is also famous for its recreational industry. Paseo del Mar offers guided tours of the Oahu Central Region by boat departing from the Paseo del Mar Marina, and tours go around San Leandro, Leicester, and other towns and cities in the region. It also has a thriving fishing industry, with a Fishermans Wharf Market at the Marina as well. A shopping center south of Downtown, called the Reclamation Plaza, holds a lot of well-known shops that include a branch of Gap, Apple, Ferragamo, Prada, and others.

    Transport and Communication

Paseo del Mar is well-connected by buses coming from Orinda, Leicester, and Ocean View, along with 6 local bus lines that go around town, all going through the Del Mar Transit Mall next to the Del Mar Circus, and the bus system runs 24 hours for the basic route and from 4:30am to midnight for the local routes. Paseo del Mar also operates event shuttles that run in a clockwise direction throughout town to carry people to and from certain events to the Del Mar Transit Mall for buses in and out of Paseo del Mar. It also has road connections to Kingvale (via Highway A5 and Robertson Road), Orinda (via the Orinda-Del Mar Road), and Leicester (via Highway A5 and Robertson Road). Traveling by water, Paseo del Mar has ferry services to Leicester, San Leandro, and Ocean View daily, with ferry connections in Leicester for San Pablo. The town also has an airfield, called the Del Mar Airfield, that caters to general aviation aircraft on grass turf. It offers basic airport facilities, such as hangars and flight school offices.

Wireless internet is provided for free by MoloNetwork. There are two radio stations in town that broadcast dance music and news, and these are Wild 95.3 and Hometown Radio 790, broadcasting throughout the Oahu Region and nearby regions. Public payphones in town are also available, so as television services as well.

I saw you need more custom content. Also, maybe a slope mod, the slopes are terrible. Nice work in total, I will be here waiting for more. 2.gif

Very good Anthony! I see you're trying to break away from the grid at random places! 9.gif

    Keep it up!

I also recommend a slope mod, keeps things from looking to jagged along the roads. 2.gif

Looks like its impossible to see a city with an agricultural lands. Its already an urbanized city but yet there are still farmlands. but its unique to look at.

The airfield is really nice. this is my favorite part of the town. How did you made this?

And is there any transportation facilities such as mass transit in the place?

when will you gonna put seawalls on the marina port?

That was big... I like that town. Can I buy a house there? Maybe a Victorian...

I think my favorite part of this update was that divided avenue with the fancy median-thing. It looks pretty cool.

very nice airport, it makes me think of moving to a countryside city because, they are quite quiet.

Wow that was a big update! I see a lot of new custom content which is always a plus. Those HK buildings really contrast well with the rest of the city. Your high wealth area is looking great and that stadium is excellent. It looks like a really wealthy area! The only thing I think is unusual is the marina being 20 feet below the road, but that's just a minor thing. Great work!

Nice update! Good use of the asphalt streets!

Your coastline really needs a change though. Try and get a more realistic slope, mainly for the marina you have. Also, getting some eyecandy like seawalls would help a lot!

    Best,

Thanks for the link Anthony!! Can't wait for more.

I like Orinda the best. It has a small town feel to it that just draws me in.

And the background stories just draw me in since I am a history buff.

My suggestion is make the pictures links to larger and higher resolution pictures. (See Franklin County in my sig for an excellent example)

Hey Anthony!  The "infamous" UDI zots lol... They are annoying.  That is too funny about your sister.  I do'nt think I have the arrows on mine, got a mod or something that gets rid of them.  Although sometimes I get confused myself about which way it goes.  42.gif  That's pretty sad I know... Easy Forest series?  I don't know what that is exactly...Looks like yo'ure just missing a dependency.  Oh, wait, there are no dependencies (supposedly).  Maybe the lot's just messed up. I have a few like that.   I would suggest just using some ploppable trees instead of a lot -  and of course I can't seem to find any on the STEX right now... Maybe sorchin's flora pack (There aren't really any trees  except some dead ones, but there's some pretty neat stuff in there); Goldiva's Tropical Trees (if you're feeling palm-ish); or the JRJ side street mod, which I cannot find because it's either not on the STEX anymore, or the search hates me.  [Edit: its on the LEX actually.]  Anyway.  That wasn't very helpful I know, but I try.  On to the update.  The stadium looks good.  I see some Asian custom content in there as well.  Although those little blue-roofed European shop thingies are getting repetitive.  I like the little roundabout and the apartments nearby it.  That church in the last pic is really pretty too.  At least I'm assuming it's a church...Anyway nicely done and see ya next update!

I just discovered this CJ and just in time too. I enjoy everything I've seen so far wishfulanthony. My favorite part of update 4 was the shot of San Lorenzo Village. Have to admit that I zoomed through it quickly and haven't read the introduction to each update all the way through yet. Keep up the great work. I will be checking often for future updates.

Another brilliant update Anthony! 44.gif The history of Paseo del Mar was very well written and the asphalt streets look very nice. Your choice of custom content is very good, the church in the first and last pic looks great! As others have said, maybe download a slope mod to sort out the slopes on the coast. Keep up the excellent work! 9.gif

    Just great wishfulanthony.

I love all the downloads you have in the pics. Can you send me the roundabout? Anyway, it's a great CJ, and even though you say you don't deserve greatness for it, i certainly say you should get it.

Molowaku Island. I like the prospect. Keep on trucking!

Your cities are far more refined than previously, i know it is difficult to create elegant shorelines, but keep working at it. Perhaps you create a man-made shoreline, a landfill effect perhaps: like Boston Harbor. Anyways, you usage of winding and confusing one-way streets are very realistic. Keep the density up, but not high-density: you have a talent at making small cities! Keep it up my friend,

    -Sean
