Saying it's the best internet meme ever would be stretching it and would also be entirely a matter of opinion.

We can, however, say that it was the first really big one. Before All Your Base, there was no such thing as an "internet meme" (hell, who even knew what "meme" meant before then?). There was also no such thing as "winning the internet".

And yeah, it's kinda old now. 2001. Seven years. But Zero Wing is even older. It's a Sega Genesis game.

As for "so many bad ones".... eh, locats is stupid but a few decent things have come out of people making fun of it. Rickrolling is amusing at first but gets old real fast. It's the ones that you can find reasons to quote and invoke in real life that really leave their mark. Things like "Do a barrel roll!", "So, I heard you like Mudkips...", or "{expletive} Yeah Seaking!"

And then there's all those X rated memes people use for pranking and personal revenge...

I always find it amusing when these things find their way onto real TV news.

Because let's be honest, by the time the news reports it, the only people who haven't heard of it yet are the uncool old geezers who don't pay attention to the internet.

So it seems rather like "News to parents: this is the crazy stuff your kids are doing these days".
