Duke: I am perfectly calm.  Mostly.

Explodingsims:  Nominations in January hopefully.   Oh and please send my kick backs to...

Actually the set catagory trixies are pretty simple apparently...  it works on simple numbers...   the person with the most nominations for a certain catergory wins.

So in other word every nomination counts.  Literally.

As for the ad hoc trixies...  well if you can come up with something that the trixie fairy likes...

So you could nominate me for...

The Moderator who is the Mostest to say the Leastest Trixie...  19.gif

...or something suitablaly modest along those lines.

Yay, the New Year (and January) is approaching -- this will be my first Trixies too! I am quite excited (and nervous) of what to expect... 3.gif Hopefully, it will be a success.

Speaking of which, in 2009, we will have TWO Trixies? Is that true? 43.gif

I guess it must be, but there'll be a good 9 or 10 months between them at least.

Just wondering, before now have all trixies been held around November/December or did they use to be at different times of the year?

The first Trixies were in August/September, but all subsequent years have been somewhere around mid-November/early-December.

Just wondering, if the Trixies will take place in early 2009, will the label be 'Trixie winner 2008' or 'Trixie winner 2009'?

There'll be a whole page set up with instructions and everything there.. and don't worry you can't miss it when the nomination period has begun. 2.gif

If you have any further questions, feel free to check out our Golden Llama Awards FAQ in the Omnibus.. it should answer most questions. 4.gif

No, not so.  Winning a trixie comes with strings attached.  First, you must be nominated.  Second, that nomination must be credible.  If 500 hundred of us get together and nominate Meg for the "Most Improved BATter" Trixie and Bixel were to get two votes for it, Bixel would still win the award.  Why?  Meg has never batted anything in her life, so how can she possibly win the award?  In other words, prank Trixies that have no legitimacy will not be counted, so don't bother submitting them.  You can't sway the decision with them.

Now, another thing - it isn't enough to just say "I nominate so and so because....."  and then have an answer like "just look at his work!"  There needs to be substance behind what you say.  If you are nominating someone, you have to have a reason why, so give us that reason.  For example, if Member A is nominated for "Most Improved BATter" and Member B is also nominated for the award, and there's a tie between the two of them (which actually happens a lot), then the admins are going to start looking at the strength of the nominations.  So if the people who nominated Member A gave really strong, specific reasons why they should win the award and the people who nominated Member B gave weak, inspecific reasons why Member B should win the award, then Member A is almost certainly going to win.  The admins judge the tie-breakers, so use your nomination reasons as an opportunity to persuade them towards the side of your nominee.

VT speaks the truth.   We do sanity check the Trixie nominations.   Even if I do get 500 nominations for "Most Improved BATter", it is very easy to verify that I have not posted anything on the STEX this year.  I have never posted anything on the STEX ever.   Nominations like that will just be thrown out.

and, while VT is correct that we don't need prank Trixies, we do encourage fun Trixies.   Our membership here can be very creative.  "Best Varmit in a CJ", "Best Looking Organic Product" "The Insomniac of the Chat Award" and "Coolest Cyber Pet" are all awards that people created.  Most of these ad-hoc awards are not given the next year, since each year has its own set but some of them have become regular awards given out each year, like "Best Rural CJ".

We do not limit the awards to the categories we have defined.  People are encourage to submit their own ideas.

This is true as well.   We have many cases where there is a tie.  and we do read, and give weight to, the reasons.   Compare the following:

"Paradise Falls continues to be the best in nature usage.  Her talents include terraforming mountains, creating beautiful waterfalls and rivers, and everything else in between."

"Paradise Falls II is a beautiful display of Jacky's use of nature. Jacky's CJ shows that City Journals don't need skyscrapers and tycoons to be amazing."  quote>

to

Well,it's obvius really! quote>

Which reasons make the better case?

(btw, those are actual quotes from last year's nominations.  That particular category had a clear winner because I didn't want to quote from a category where things were tied.)

That said, I encourage everyone to submit nominations.  We have many categories where the winner is chosen by a vote or two.  Literally.    Your nomination can make the difference.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

Actually, we don't "select".  We count.  We do wade through the nominations doing some validation, throwing out things that are obviously nonsense, like nominations for BAT awards from people who don't BAT, and nominations for CJ awards for people without a CJ and so forth.

And we do break ties.  If one guy comes in second in 3 different CJ categories and is tied for the 4th, he will probably get our tie breaking vote.  If you want to call that "selection".

Actually, looking at the history, very few categories are decided by a landslide.  Most of them are very close.   Your nomination really does count.quote>
