oh, did I mention that this very game is gonna KILL(!) the SimCity franchise? ... at least as long as EA doesn't buy MC out... which hopefully NEVER happens...

I had no problem with FF3. You might be missing a plugin. But I admit, I don't mind having IE around for the stubborn sites.

Anyway, that looks absolutely amazing! I'm hoping for some amount of customization to those bridges, but I'd be happy with just what's been shown.

Those videos are getting me excited for the game.

I also wonder about tree lined streets and the option for tweaking them to specific areas. This is just a minor point also but the option to choose side streets with grass for suburban areas would be nice.

Nonetheless Cities XL is looks like it might be the best SimCity-like game made yet.

Well, that just humiliated the hell outta SimCity Creator (sigh, still grid based) and then beated it into oblivion, wherever that is.

Must...buy...CitiesXL...

All I can say is that this is the ultimate step to creating realistic cities. It seems as if the creates or CXL is playing SC4 and taking where the game ends and adding it in CXL. Great work!

When I saw the videos my jaw dropped. I can't wait to see what else the game has to offer.

i cannot believe how excited i got over those videos. are they going to have intelligent traffic/commuting too, does anybody know? that game is looking to be insanely fun. especially if modding is part of the program. i have to say that sc4 would already be collecting dust if not for this site and the geniuses who do these mods. 4.gif

I have to say, that looks dam good. Awesome video MC. I also hope its moddable for all the great minds we have here and elsewhere who can add more stuff. This game really looks like a winner from what i see, now they just need to add more stuff and complete the game with as little bugs as possible and it will be golden.

Holy hell! I was talking to Dasilva before he released the vid and he said it was amazing and we got some little teasers aswell but, i wasn't prepared for it to be this extreme!!!

I mean wow! I can't express myself. I can't even play sc4. I feel so bad becuase it is still ages away! But don't hurry and ruin it Monte Cristo!

As said before, people were wondering about the trees on the side of the road, especially for the bridge which is not something you see everyday. I think as some of the earlier bridges pointed out that the additional items (trees and other stuff) is optional, at least i hope so.

First of all, I'd like to thank everybody for your kind support and comments about these videos. It helps us a lot knowing which direction we should follow. 4.gif

Now, regarding the trees on the roads and bridges, if you followed our blog entries, you should remember our Multilane feature where we said we would allow players to define their roads by selecting which lane types they want to use for their networks. For these videos, I only had the ability to lay down roads with trees that were placed on pedestrian lanes but when the game will be released you should be able to pick whatever you want to be used for your bridges. 2.gif

As for the building style comments, we are planning to integrate bridge construction in a "Project Mode" where you'll be able to select multiple options after drawing your bridge on the landscape including style. This "Project Mode" will also allow you to validate or cancel your plan before actually spending your city cash.

That will fix one of the biggest problems in the entire city-building genre. I have always hated the fact that you couldn't really plan out your city ingame without spending money to build the stuff.

This game is now on the must buy list for me. 4.gif

Mmm... vector-based transit networks, complete with a z-axis... (sorry, that's the just geek in me getting over-excited)... Insert ludicrous amount of drool here...

is the game customizable....(e.g., can we create custom content to add to the game/simulation)...if not, then I'm not interested

awesome videos. must admit though, it really is not that realistic to have too many tunnels transitioning directly into bridges (i think only the oresund in denmark/sweden) but i guess the onus is on city builders to make it realistic 3.gif which would be easier now that we can plan the stuff before building. and i assume "project mode" would give a cost estimate as you build? would it also provide projected traffic volumes etc? (idea: be able to plan multiple projects on the same area at once so you can compare the costs/benefits) though i reckon if all that were made possible and realistic, cities XL would cease to be a "game" and become and "urban planning tool" which would still be fancy!

Amazing, im very happy to see this. MC, you seem to have came up with a brilliant solution to this these particular, and important, communication/transportation issues.

This can go a long way and it is a very good basis you have built here for a long future for this game!

Keep it up I support this simulator development fully.

The project mode sounds promising as well, excellent., no more "slip with the mouse and waste resources... or worse" 4.gif .

Well if there is one that means its a realistic thing to have as an option 4.gif.

Yes, it will be great to test different city concepts with this simulator.

Im sure MC have a lot of ideas to chew on... so to speak, i wish them all the best again in their efforts in this revolutionary, i think, city simulator. I hope they are honest with themselves but we also need to be realistic. This really impressed me.

I hope we can move underground in the Z-axis as well... that is, underground communication networks... in layers? Maybe there could be pre defined layers if nothing else to put subways, underground roads etc in, or just have that as well, vector based... droooool 3.gif

The videos were simply amazing. So much flexibility with the roads. I also love the elevated roads on the land, very stylish. Along with GTA IV on PC, this game is on my Must Buy list. Keep up the fantastic developmental work Monte Cristo.

I saw on their blog that you would be able to draw out a multi-pointed shape that when completed would act as zoning. Its realistic zoning at its finest; no more blocky zones, and it would compliment the curves well.
