NMUSpidey I like the way you think!

TmiguelT Fear not... I am still reading the manual too. Of course, only after having tried everything else first.

Hester I think that is fixed now.

Korot That should be fixed now too.

Hester There are a lot of bugs around here... perhaps someone should spray for them.

Leech10 Bugs are becoming all too common around here. It's time to get my squishin' shoes on and get to gettin'.

Dfnva Thanks, Dan. I have another update or two left of Schulmanukau as well with more of the right bank of town.

NMUSpidey Swatting is good too. But I likes my squishin' shoes!

Victor Valdes Thanks! More of the town is coming up soon as well.

Hester Hope you took her advice.

Leech10 So far she has still remained un-vetted. But, that will come to an end soon... just when she least suspects it...

    TmiguelT Ewwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!

    Jacqulina Thanks, Jacky!

Leech10 Definitely a change from their militant strategy of the past.

TmiguelT An invasion would not be good... for the squirrels.

Hester All who do not comply will be spun around and around and around...

NMUSpidey Quit using those big words around me. I don't even keep my corn in a drum.

    Korot Dank U, Korot!

PhatHead The party is always going on around here! Come join in.

Leech10 Let's see if the peace holds.

Dfnva Thanks! A busy day in the backyard for sure. I had a bunch of big crows in the backyard by the bird feeder but no pictures of them though.

TmiguelT Mr. Chippy is a chipmunk. There's at least 3 in the yard somewhere. The squirrels usually try to run them off. I thought that one was so Mr. Burns-like that it inspired the whole thing! Lol!

Based on a true story... from today!

The Schulmanator is trying to pass a hot summer's day, hiding from the peak heat and humidity. What better way to do so than to watch some television?

    sch.jpg

But, to his utter dismay... there's NOTHING WORTH WATCHING! I know you've been there, haven't you? 500 channels and nothing's on. Who's behind this dastardly and most fiendish plot?

The media, of course! Let's see how this travesty unfolded:

    lame.jpg

At Laymo Broadcasting (LBN) corporate headquarters, the head honchos decreed that the weekday afternoon lineup consist of the following:

Title: Did He Pass The Bar?

    Genre: Comedy

A boxing kangaroo who speaks only in riddles befriends a Supreme Court judge. Stars Alicia Silverstone and Rosanne Barr.

Title: The Really, Really Odd Couple

    Genre: Movie of the Week

An accountant penning a novel is sucked into another dimension along with an Olympic gymnast who's a mannequin come to life. Stars F. Murray Abraham and Paul Giamatti.

    RTV.jpg

At Re-Run Television (RTV)'s office, someone decided that you really wanted these gems to brighten your weekday afternoons:

Title: Nancy Drew and The Case of the Haunted Freezer

    Genre: Action

A talking refrigerator without any shame enlists the help of a socialite with no spine. Stars Christopher Lloyd and Corey Feldman.

    Title: Elphay Emay!

    Genre: Movie of the Week

An opera singer who was a hero for a day enlists the help of a city planner who only speaks in pig latin. Stars Carl Malden and John C. Reilly.

You thought THOSE were bad? Hit the remote and see what else you get...

    NRSC.jpg

On the next channel up, NRSC (Nauseating Reality Show Channel) has dished up a little something just for us:

    Title: Stealing Bases

A district attorney who is secretly a werewolf befriends a lifeguard who manages a semi-pro baseball team. Stars Joe Pantoliano and Kevin Spacey.

Title: So You Think You Can Trot?

A philanthropist who is a former child star enters a dance competition with a geometry teacher who talks to animals. Stars Michael Rapaport and Missy Elliot.

    Title: The Apprentice v 2.0

A former president with a pet chimpanzee competes for a prime job against a logger who talks to animals. Stars Dolph Lundgren and Bob Hoskins.

OK, I give up... there's absolutely nothing worth watching! Mom is right. Turn off the TV and go outside.

Haha... I'm agreeing with you there with the lack of good daytime tv... usually I end up watching MSNBC or the Game Show Network for quality programming.

The next update will come either later today or tomorrow morning. I will be headed out of town for the last big fling before school. A Schulmania delegation is visiting New York. Fear not, I have an update pre-made and ready to upload while I am gone, so fear not- thou hast not been forgotten. I am bringing the laptop (its name, btw, is "Mr. Lappy") so I can come online and bug you while away.

The Volume 2-3 transition will continue for a while. Right now, Volume 3 seems (tell me if it is just me) to only be available with a direct link. I can't find it at all in the New CJ section w/o a direct link from my sig. So, while the dust settles over there, expect to see cross postings. Once everything is a-ok in Volume 3land, I will look at making the transition taper off.

BTW, the www.schulmania.info website is having its second busiest month ever, with 2000+ page views this month. A lot of people are coming to see the 2009 State Visit Index, featuring 15 photo galleries of my trip to New Zealand. In case you were wondering about which is the most popular, here are the top 3 most viewed galleries of NZ pix: 1) Tongariro National Park, 2) Auckland, 3) NZ Fur Seals. If you have been to see them, let me know which gallery(ies) you like best. If you have not been yet.... tsk, tsk, tsk! [Also - LOL birds and LOL squirrels are on the website now as well!]

In further news, when I get back, I am hoping to enlist the help of someone who is better at photo editing to help me superimpose some things on SC4 screen pix better than I can. My attempts thus far have been, to be gentle, underwhelming. So, be looking for plaintive calls for help when I return.

PS: ZJ wants to know if you like the new avatar 4.gif

    Schulminion Monetary Union

    Summer 2009 New Issues Report

Princess Katherine has authorized two new coinage series in the Regency of Wirdleonia. To satisfy demand for money on the southeastern frontier, coins made in Robinia are now being sent via river to Tanagiers, which will service the entire district of East Wirdleonia for the foreseeable future. As southwestern expansion has grown even faster, a mint has been built in Schulmanukau and will provide money for the Western Wirdleonia district. The village of Belva Dear has requested a coinage issue. Princess Katherine has not yet ruled on the request.

An interesting side note or two: As you know, Schulmanukau was inspired by my recent visit to New Zealand. The Kiwi influence is seen in the coin designs as well. The 5 purr features a butterfly from a photo I took while in Manukau. The 1 schulmoneta features a silver fern frond from a photo taken by me at Huka Falls. The dog featured on the 10 purr is, as you can imagine, a Schulmania first. It is the emblem of the Wirdle's Canine Council, which is now headquartered in Schulmanukau and ably led by Schulmauckland's Ambassador Booster Nelson.

And, also, the 10 purr from Tanagiers features a bluebird on top of the birdhouse we put in the backyard this spring. We had a little bluebird family living in it until everyone hatched and flew off.

This update has NOT been included in Volume 3 of Schulmania due to technical difficulties in the New CJ section. Please continue to look here for all of your Schulmania needs until the technical problems have been resolved.

Thanks to Zelgadis Senior, Vol 3 has reappeared... so go see it !

Ya know, it is a good thing I have made some more schulmonetas, since I have been spending so many here in NYC. Today, we head to the Intrepid Museum. Yesterday, Port Jefferson and the Hamptons. Tomorrow, we meet up with the Cousinator to see the NYC museums.

West Wirdleonia: The Right Bank Needs No Bailout

No financial difficulties in Schulmanukau. As a matter of fact, the city has recently been given the right to coin money. The bustling city in the southwestern frontier does a robust overland trade with Hestorbia and has initiated a steady stream of river traffic with Robinia and as far east as Tanagiers. The town straddles the river and is divided into two halves: the left bank, containing the government district, and the right bank, with the large church and public parks. Today, we explore the right bank, which, as you can see, requires no bailout to function well.

It would make sense to start at the most central and largest structure on the Right Bank, the church. All Saints Church of Schulmanukau is the tallest structure in the district and is built to cathedral dimensions.

    ccc.jpg

The Schulmanukau Sky Tower in the Public Domain is the same elevation as the top of the church, but it, of course, sits atop a steep hill.

All Saints sits adjacent to the Public Domain and at the eastern terminus of Church Street. Ethan Crossing Bridge carries traffic between the two sides of town from the government area to the church.

    church1.jpg

The Public Domain can be seen at left and Church Street can be seen making its way toward the upper right.

    church2.jpg

All Saints Walk borders the church to the other side. It is lines with vendor stalls and ends with the pleasant Lesser Church Plaza. Though, despite the name, it is still a cool plaza.

All Saints Walk is a pleasant area, bounded on its south by the church grounds and its north by shops and a field of colorful wildflowers. The field is named, as you can imagine, All Saints Field. It was designed as a peaceful reflection area and kids love to come to the field and watch the bunnies and butterflies.

    allsaintswalk.jpg

The Lesser Church Plaza is at the bottom of the picture. BTW, did anyone else notice the leftmost guy on All Saints Walk is carrying a bag of chicken chips? Well, he is!

    allsaintsfield.jpg

Everyone needs respite. A colorful array of wildflowers and grassy spots make for great picnic areas and nifty places to sit and watch the clouds go by. The more rambunctious kids use a new toy: the Haka Hoop. It's sort of like a hula hoop, but is more menacing.

On the east side of the church is the Greater Church Plaza. The two got their names because of their relative size. The Greater Church Plaza is much bigger and features some great outdoor gathering places.

    cathplaza1.jpg

Greater Church Plaza is bounded on one entire side by Priory Park Place, the largest retail establishment in the district. Its welcome shade trees and wide umbrellas are accented by the Schulmanui Fountain, a gift to the city by the first pastor of the church, Father Nosebest.

    cathplaza2chateau.jpg

The far end of the Greater Church Plaza is capped by the largest hotel this side of Risa Beach: The Château. This massive, opulent hotel provides a fabulous breakfast and reservations start at 4.5 schulmonetas.

It is no accident that Priory Park Place is so close to the hotel. Entrepreneurs, led by VAN Enterprises, staked out the high profile spot as the perfect spot to receive high customer traffic from a well-moneyed crowd.

    prioryparkplace.jpg

Priory Park Place is a New Urbanist's dream. It features retail at the lower levels and loft style apartments at the top. The apartments have proven to be a great success with chic professionals eager to live the high life in Schulmanukau.

    prioryparklane.jpg

Others choose to live in lower-density settings across Priory Park Lane. These cozy homes attract families and their prime location makes them fairly pricy.

An interesting feature near Priory Park Place is the second largest theater in the nation: Schulmanawera Performing Arts Centre. Live theater and various fine arts performances have a new and spacious home here. The Nelson Theatre is the largest venue at the site and hosts music, dance and plays.

    schulmanawera.jpg

Schulmanawera sits on the corner of Fernwood Parade, a road which completes a loop around Priory Park Place, connecting the east end of the Greater Church Plaza with the far southern end of Priory Park Lane.

Adjacent to the SPAC is Schulmauckland Centre, a cultural arts facility with a museum and artisan workshops.

    schulmaucklandcentre.jpg

Here on the corner of Fernwood Parade, one can apprentice to carve woodwork, learn to be an engaging tour guide, become a juggler or any of nearly 100 different other artistic trades. The exhibit halls are quite engaging as well. The largest catfish ever caught in the Tenne Sea is picked in a giant jar and on display. You should come see it.

As we explore more of the Right Bank, we encounter the tall commercial office, Schulmatamata Tower. The tower is home to Schulmania's headquarters for VAN Enterprises, which has consolidated its back office operations at the new facility. It overlooks the river and sits next to the elite Strathbooster Academy, the finest school in the district.

    schulmatamata-tower.jpg

VAN Enterprises is now based out of here. Of course it still maintains a presence in other cities. But, the letterhead now lists this as the headquarters.

    schulmatamata-tower2-strath.jpg

Behind Schulmatamata Tower lies a row of commercial buildings and beyond that, Strathbooster Academy. It must be recess, since someone is out on the basketball court.

    strathboosterAcademy.jpg

Strathbooster Academy is a highly regarded school and is the only school meriting frontage on prestigious Church Street.

    strathboosterAcademy2.jpg

Strathbooster Academy has high standards - all students follow the 9 Lives Curriculum and are fully prepared to enter the university of their choice upon graduation.
