Good News! A new translator has joined Schulmania. Our new friend, earwax_man, who just celebrated his birthday BTW, has agreed to translate some of the Schulmania website into Irish. Welcome, Ed, to Schulmania. We look forward to seeing your work.

In other news, an expanded Schulmauckland index (3 new galleries and some Dutch translations by Korot) is coming up in the next upload as are seven more chapters in the archive and some city profiles. We are almost at the one year anniversary of the website. Woo hoo! I will post some statistics of the first year in about a week. A new update will be posted here soon.

...and on an important day in Irish history too. Glad to hear it. My dad taught me some Gaelic when I was 6. I forgot most of it unfortunately. Perhaps I can brush up now!

All of the above.   Cape Eastway Explorers Hall is one of the places that bright eyed upstanding (on two legs that is), unsuspecting folks walk into and find that although they can check out anytime...   they can never leave...   well not at least until the Council of Many Scratches says you can.

    A minor technical point:

    smightower-explorershall.jpg

Explorers Hall, shown above, is in Smightower, Schulmanicus. It is the home base for explorers.

But, the fleet being developed is being done so on Cape Eastway. It is interesting how this particular expedition is not following the usual pattern, isn't it? Perhaps the fact that the expedition has been pushed for and partially funded by the East Devonshire government could explain that. They seem to do things a bit differently in East Devonshire, as now doubt some of you have noticed. I am curious to see how the new fleet does and when it will be ready for launch.

Leech10 I know! It took some getting used to - a big dog growling is actually a purr... quite unusual.

Hester WCC Director Booster Nelson thanks you for your support. A tail wag has been sent in your direction.

Leech10 They are gearing up for the expedition now.

Hester I am not sure. This is being sponsored mainly by the East Devonshire government, so they are doing things a bit differently.

Evillions The dog would say "arrrrrrgh-uff" but cats can't be pirates. After all, just how long can a bird survive on a cat's shoulder?

    TmiguelT Coolio!

Archean That could make for a good Schulmania soap opera.

Korot I have been on a sailboat actually sailing just once. We went on about an hour ride (sail!) in the wide part of the Cape Fear River. I did not realize that sailboats leaned that much.

Abcvs What could ever become of your limbs?

    chickenquarters.jpg

Your limbs are perfectly safe with me! Ummmm... could you pass the barbecue sauce... no particular reason.... Mmmmmmmmm......

Jacqulina As always, I appreciate your kind and supportive comments.

NMUSpidey Eager to get your sea legs again? All 8 of them, that is!

Twenty20 Merci! Before we explore off the map, we must first see more of the new town of Schulmanukau.

    Benedict Oh noes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

earwax_man Wonderful! And, welcome to Schulmania. And, happy birthday once more. Please do come back again soon.

Hester I have provided a minor clarification (above)

Leech10 Whiskers won't fall off either, thanks to:

    men-s-rogaine-foam-4-month.jpg

Muck308 Really? What are your ties to Ireland? I have not been there in quite some time. But, I had a grand time when I did. Actually, the first time I ever won money off the slot machines in a casino was in Galway...

Abcvs Sounds perilous! I hope governor Eula Bird of East Devonshire does not make this prediction come to pass.

    NMUSpidey Highly unlikely!

Abcvs Now, don't you go giving Gov. Bird any ideas about how to torture explorers!

Jacqulina Thanks! It's from Smightower, a town I have not updated since its initial release in 2006. I did go back and tweak the central square a little after opening it back up.

NMUSpidey The nuclear wessels? The Enterprise? Beam me up, Scotty!

Do I see chicken on that barbecue? *hungry*

Hmm, no actual update, no replies of other people I want to deal with, must be the lack of updates! I hope the next one comes quickly. BTW, how many people have already applied for a position in the exploration?

    Regards,

    Korot

West Wirdleonia: In the Public Domain

Schulmanukau is an interesting study in contrasts. It is the only city in the remote southwest, but its population is densely packed into multistory dwellings. It is a city with a large public service sector, but it also has a bustling commercial district or two. It is a populous city, but it has the largest designated open space in any Schulminion city.

We continue our exploration of the Left Bank with some views of important areas around Church Street and Devonport harbor. Government and civic buildings are clustered in this area and provide a spark for the cultural energy of the city.

    leftbank-govdistchurchst.jpg

The Left Bank side of Church Street is one of the twin anchors of town. The Right Bank side of Church Street is just as pivotal on the other shore.

    leftbank-government3.jpg

The long profile of the Western Wirdleonia government center occupies half of Church Street's north side.

    leftbank-business2.jpg

But, Church Street takes a sharp turn at the corner of the government center and becomes Schulmatamata Road, which leads to the Liam Ford Bridge and another access point to the Right Bank.

    leftbank-business.jpg

Business is booming in Schulmanukau. There may be a mint in the near future for the town - Hestorbia cannot make enough surplus coins to send out by river to meet the needs of the new frontier town.

Touring a bustling town can make a person quite tired. Perhaps we could rest at the massive new Public Domain, a spacious park on the Right Bank, just a short trip across the Ethan Crossing Bridge from where we are now.

    devonport.jpg

As we approach the Ethan Crossing Bridge and Devonport, we see some shops nearby. Anyone want a snack?

    devonport.jpg

The center building houses a food court. What do you prefer?

On the ground floor, we could order baguettes from Chomps Elysees. Above, we have roasted meats from The Sizzles of the Lambs. The next floor up houses two eateries: Meat 3.141... on the left and Tweety's Cat Café. What's today's special at Tweety's, you ask?

    5246.jpg

After a snack, let's cross the Ethan Crossing Bridge to the Right Bank and see what's there.

    ethancrossingrightbank.jpg

There's a food court on the Right Bank as well. And, if you run out of money, the bank is next door to the right.

The Schulmanukau Public Domain is a large park we can see from the Left Bank, as it lies along the eastern shore and occupies the highest point in town. The impressive park was designed by famed landscape artist Kiwi von Taupo. His inspiration was the journal of the Schulmauckland delegation. He sought to develop the site to incorporate lush green hills, sweeping vistas and crown it all with Schulmania's own "sky tower", an homage to the one the delegation reported having seen. Looking over the Public Domain, it is a different sort of urban green space for Schulmania. And, it is no doubt destined to become one of the most popular ones as well.

    domain1.jpg

The Schulmanukau Sky Tower is a tall commemorative column atop Nelson Hill. It overlooks the Wirdleonia Rover from the highest point in town.

    domain1.jpg

The Public Domain extends along the south side of Church Street from the Ethan crossing Bridge up to the church grounds. At left, across Church Street, sits Schulmauckland House, the cultural arts center for the city.

Now playing at the Admiral Theater in Schulmauckland House:

    Cats_the_Musical.jpg

    You can't be surprised...

    domain4.jpg

Schulmanukau Sky Tower dominates the Public Domain. Only the spires of the church are higher.

    domain7.jpg

The Sky Tower was built to commemorate the successful Schulmauckland state visit - the event which inspired the creation of the town.

    domain6.jpg

Further down the hill in the park, other statuary graces the landscape. This statue was built in honor of Prince Excalibur.

    domain2.jpg

Schulmanukau Public Domain ends at the church grounds and, to the east, at the homes which abut it on Pavlova Place.

    domain8.jpg

Residents on Pavlova Place are very excited about this gorgeous addition to their backyards.

Impressive work with all of the W2W's, you always make 'em look great. I'm really liking the Public Domain park as well. The layout of the trails is especially good, weaving up and down hills to reach roads and structures. 4.gif

    Meat 3.141...?! I love Meat 3.141...!!!

I suppose we're gonna have some wind powered wessels (pff, hahahaha) on our journey. It's still preposterous to think you can make a ship sail by lighting a bonfire under her deck.

Well all I am going to say (mostly) is that Gov Eula Bird is the principle reason I am having nothing to do with the current expedition. From what I have heard tell, that chicky is one of the key stooge pigeons in the Council of Many Scratches.

I would watch my tail when she is around.

Oh and for those that don't know the Council of Many Scratches is an organisation that is dedicated to keeping ordinary hard working felines under control by issuing compulsory collars with bells that monitor general cat scratch pole performance, the ability to find the said feline even if they are hiding under the bed, and the general promotion of leaving transport carry cages (harmlessly) lying around in the hope that they become 'part of the scenery'.   Of course the real reason is to breed a level of familarity so the unsuspecting feline can be 'transported' at a moments notice to general places of vetinological torture.

Yes it is a rather nasty business really and it pains me to 'tinkle the bell' on the harsh truth as it were.
