    West Wirdleonia: Opening the Frontier

The exciting state visit to Schulmauckland left the Schulminion delegation excited about the prospects of developing the southwestern frontier of Schulmania. As the trip was exceedingly long, the delegates were asleep during a good part of their voyage and are thus unable to find Schulmauckland on the Schulmania map. Archduke Bower described it as “very, very far to the south and west.” But, our cartographers place this at about the forks of the Wirdleonia River. No doubt, the Flying Kiwi carried them on past that point. But, for now, the Supreme Wirdle has declared the Fisk Line as the southernmost point for territorial expansion. So, proximate to Schulmauckland, or at least in the right direction, the City Planning Office has set about setting up a new colony and opening up the western frontier to growth and development.

The navigable section of the Wirdleonia River ends just below the first fork of the river. A port here would be the western terminus of marine trade routes and serve as a focal point for trade in the inland regions. To use available land and water resources effectively, both banks of the river will be developed, relying on two bridges to connect the town. The most practical crossing points would be at shallow parts, such as Liam Ford, Waischulmo Ford, Ethan Crossing or the Jaffa Narrows. As one progresses further west, into the rapids, water depth decreases but logistical difficulties increase. No doubt the experts at the City Planning Office will be able to churn out a suitable city.

The closest settlement to the site is Hestorbia, some distance to the east. Therefore, the city will need to be fairly large and self-sufficient. It will need to have district-level government offices as well as regional offices for the Bureau of Feline Affairs. Booster Nelson, named Director of the Wirdle’s Canine Council, has named the new site as where he would like to establish the headquarters for the WCC. A concession has already been granted to the Devonshire Marine Transit & Port Agency (“Devonport” for short) to develop and operate a ferry port for passengers and cargo at the western end of the navigable section of the river. Much is now in place; now it is up to the City Planning Office to deliver on the site’s promise.

    Haricot-rock-lighthouse.jpg

Our first view of the new town is coming up the Wirdleonia River form the east. We spot the Haricot Rock Lighthouse, which serves as a sentinel to warn of the end of navigable water.

    devonport1.jpg

As we approach Devonport terminal, our first glimpse of the town and one of its bridges can be made.

Welcome to Schulmanukau, the first city in Western Wirdleonia. The City Planning Office has created a unique, compact plan for a city split by a river. A large hill overlooking the river and a profusion of local wildflowers gave planners the opportunity to carve out several open spaces in the city, allowing for recreational, ecological and hunting activities within the town limits. As river traffic approaches only from the east, from that perspective, the southern shore is the left bank and the northern shore the right bank. We will begin exploring the Left Bank, home of the Bureau of Feline Affairs, district government and extensive residential and commercial development.

    devonport2.jpg

As we leave Devonport and begin to explore the Left Bank, we pass the shops on our way up to the main road. Ethan Crossing Bridge connects both halves of Church Street, which serves as the main east-west road in town. A replica of an ancient shrine from Schulmanicus sits close to the shore. It was a gift from the Supreme Wirdle to the new settlers.

Church Street leads to the main government buildings and connects to Schulmatamata Road. Schulmatamata Road crosses the rover again over the Liam Ford Bridge. As Church Street connects the only two river crossings, it remains an important and highly trafficked road. If you’re wondering where the church is, it is on the Right Bank.

    liamford1.jpg

Liam Ford Bridge and Schulmatamata Road

    leftbank1.jpg

Hungry? One of the town’s three (yes, three!) Chicken Kings is located right here on Church Street, next door to T Miguel’s T Shirts and just down from a bustling Leech Apothecary.

    leftbank1.jpg

At the intersection of Church Street and Devonport Road, Catbury Confections sells a variety of exciting tasty treats, including Pineapple Lumps (made from chocolate covered pieces of pineapples growing under the sea) and Furry Purry (also featured in Furry Purry Ice Cream; made from ingredients not dissimilar to hokey pokey) and the sinfully decadent ganache à trois – three layers of succulent chocolate mousse, each thoroughly drenched in pure Busscastle chocolate.

Pardon me a moment while I finish salivating.

Ahh, that’s better. Now, where was I? Oh yeah.

    leftbank3.jpg

Hard to believe that this is a frontier town, isn’t it? The City Planning Office had to upgrade residential plans to accommodate larger dwellings due to a massive influx of citizens interested in resettling to Schulmanukau.

There are still other less densely built residential areas on the Left Bank.

    leftbank4.jpg

Quiet homes dominate the streetscape on Fish And Chips Lane and Boosterotorua Road.

    leftbank5.jpg

Boosterotorua Road runs from the western edge of Left Bank housing all the way to the Bureau of Feline Affairs office near Devonport.

The eastern end of Boosterotorua Road goes to the BFA office. The road separates the office from Devonport. The transition between them is eased by Whisker Park, a lovely open area maintained by the Bureau of Feline Affairs, which also maintains an immaculate formal garden behind the office.

    leftbank5.jpg

The palatial Bureau of Feline Affairs Building has a partner just around the corner (the back corner of which is poking through at top right of the picture above): The Center for Pouncing Arts. The CPA promotes artistic and acrobatic pouncing… sort of like feline ballet.

    BFA2.jpg

To be invited to the back garden of the BFA for tea is a big deal. If you get an invitation, make sure your fur is its shiniest and your whiskers polished. If you don’t have whiskers… go rent some!

Other government agencies are located on or near Church Street. A cluster of important buildings dominate the north side of Church Street and extend toward the waterfront.

    govt1-1.jpg

Here, many important buildings stand within hissing distance of one another. The red brick building at top left is Schulmanukau City Council Building. At top right is a first for Schulmania – the official national headquarters of the Wirdle’s Canine Council, headed by Director Booster Nelson. Western Wirdleonia district offices are at lower left in the buff building.

The WCC’s mission is unique in Schulmania. Only 3% of the quadripedal population is canine. Most who live in Schulmania are as loyal to the Supreme Wirdle as the other citizens. But, they lacked an official outlet for their loyalty. The WCC was formed years ago to provide loyal canines the opportunity to participate in Schulminion society. But, the group remained small and lacked much of an impact. Until the Schulmauckland state visit, that is. Ambassador Booster Nelson of Schulmauckland met the Schulminions with wagging tail and a most hearty welcome. His diplomatic initiative has led to the Supreme Wirdle proclaiming the WCC as the official canine representative body in Schulmania and elevating it to a department under the Bureau of Feline Affairs.

    govt2-1.jpg

At bottom, the Western Wirdleonia District Government Building dominates Church Street. Behind it, on College Street, sits Sushila University, the first such institution in the district. At left is the Schulmokritos Building, housing local offices of national government agencies, such as the City Planning Office and the Agriculture Commission.

I would love to see an overview shot of this town, particularly the alignment of church street, as I don't get much wiser from the story. On another note: you have used some shots twice, the first one being the one with the Chicken King, the other being the one with Boosterotuara road (it's possible that one is spelled wrong). Thirdly: which PFB? It has already been defeated, for this page.

Will report shortly in Employee Lounge with translation.

    Regards,

    Korot

OOoooo, mid-rise residentials! Reach for the stars, Schulmanator!

Also, it's great to see friendly relations between the canines and the felines in your amazing cj.

Abcvs Hmm... after we conquer the blackjack tables, let's go play roulette and the slots. Perhaps then take in a show... I hear "Cats" is playing...

panthersimcity4 ROAR!!! Mayor Panther is in the house!! Glad to see ya back!

Abcvs lol... Schulmania is only on Vol 2... so 7 lives left to go.

Jrhnemo I hope you found it worth the wait! Glad to have you back around and making CJs.

TmiguelT Thanks! I am pleased you like it. And, I hope you noticed that you have a shop in the fashionable commercial district as well. Just a little thanks to you for coming by!

Jrhnemo Indeed! And selected canines can come as well. And of course certain bunnies too. Speaking of which, ZJ has been munching away on the backyard again... with no rain in the last 10 days, he may have to go through the drive through and get a salad to go.

Abcvs I hope the ambassador is pleased with his new office!

Korot Your translations will be most welcome. I have had a bit of a problem with pasting code out of photobucket as of late... it has been duplicating code. I will have to be more careful...

Benedict Thanks! Would that be Paris France, Texas, or Hilton?! Lol

Evillions Thanks! The Euro buildings in this town are a lot of (search STEX for ) "Gascooker" buildings and there's a good bit of (search LEX for) "Mattb325" buildings as well. Good luck and given them a try!

Zelgadis I had a feeling that those bridges would catch your eye. Actually, I used the topic summary as a bright shiny lure to reel you in. Hehehehehe! And I will have more bridge pix in the next 2 updates to keep you on the hook.

Leech10 Fear not! More is on the way!

NMUSpidey It is possible to have friendly canine-cat relations. The best example I ever saw was my friend had a 12 year old cat, Greta, who was boss of the house. Then, they took in her brother's HUGE Rottweiler because the brother needed a place to keep him while he was away. In short order, the cat had completely dominated the dog to the point that he would growl when happy to act like he was purring and followed the cat around, copying her movement and sounds as best he could. If it was not for the chew toys, poor ol' Dante would have forgotten completely that he was a dog!

Simbourgeois Welcome back! It is always a pleasure to have you come by. I am glad you liked the latest update and hope to see you again soon.

Dfnva Thanks! I am glad you liked the latest update. More from Schulmanukau will be coming up before long.

Twenty20 Merci beaucoup! I am delighted that you enjoyed the last update. More new stuff will be coming soon.

Personally I think you outdid yourself with the West Wirdleonia Frontier update. I also was, as always loving the humor in the descriptions. And I might say that being within "hissing distance" is an upgrade to the usual policy which is rip and shred (at least when the Supreme isn't looking. So glad about the Canines too. The Ambassador makes a wonderful representative, don't you think? The buildings are beautiful. The gold building...is it Schulmokritos Building, is especially striking. Sushila U. is going to be a wonderful place to get an education, I think.

You should have a "Cat Pirate" and a "Dog Pirate" doing a seabattle. That would be funny!

Cape Eastway Explorers Hall? Hah! I have heard stories about that place that would make your whiskers curl and your tail fall off!

They are a questionable lot, and I pretty much value all my limbs right where they are, so thanks but no thanks.
