It's been a while since I last visited here, and a lot's changed, but it's interesting to see Shulmania is slowly modernising. I wonder how long until they invent the automobile?

    TOP STORY

Admiral Hestorb Continues Recuperation at Wirtyplace

Schulmania's top naval commander, Admiral Hestorb, is continuing her recovery from illness at Wirtyplace. After a heroic defense of Cape Eastway, the admiral was taken ill and stopped eating and drinking in late December. She received treatment aboard a medical vessel from the Third Fleet before being transferred to the Klingman Institute in Gran Maru. Though medical testing was inconclusive as to the cause of her ailment, her veterinarian's regimen was sufficient to bring her back to feeling 100%.

SchulMedia, the government news agency, reports that Governor Cawale has been tending to the admiral and that her legions of adorers have been showering the admiral with good wishes and gifts. In this photo released by SchulMedia, the admiral is seen to be in repose at home on her new personalized quilt. The quilt was made by her fan club to celebrate her recovery.

Some new technical difficulties from the computer death and modernization have occurred. SC4 does run on the new computer (Windows 7, 64 bit color [32 bit selected in game settings]). But the color seems a bit off. In addition, cars are seen driving through translucent buildings. I have not had this happen before. Have you?

    974f5431.jpg

The old region is saved on this hard drive. It is not corrupted but I can't seem to get the new copy of SC4 to recognize the replacement tile.

But the big problem is a corrupted file. One of the city tiles has disappeared. I can't even import a tile into the square where it used to be. I have the files on the old drive and copied them over to the new one (I copied the whole regions folder over... and when that did not work, the Schulmania region... and when that did not work, the offending city file over...). But when I restart the game, the square remains empty. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to get the back up (which is still there on the old drive) to show up in the region on the new drive? Or, should I start a new region and copy over the tiles one by one in hopes of getting it back? Or something else entirely? At this point I am open to suggestions.

\Your help is most graciously welcome and appreciated.

I have no idea... the only thing I can think of is the start a new region and copy all the cities over...

Did you check the config file to make sure all the colors on it are still correct?

Some good news: I was able to import all but one tile into a new region. Now all I have to do is see if I can get it to accept the missing tile. I have tried a few ways and no success yet. But I am still working on it. Anyone who has had a disappearing tile, please give me suggestions.

    Thanks... and wish me luck!

Oh, thank the God of Felines, you have been able to do it! I don't even want to imagine... but these events make you feel hot even in winter... luckily, all the files could be restored.

Well, about the dissappeared city tile: this had also happened to me, I think 2 years ago with the Upper Westside of my CJ- I wasn't able to solve it, though, BUT this does NOT mean ANYTHING.

This reminds me of doing another backup copy lol

So, I keep me fingers crossed, also these of the Grand Duke (I know that it wouldn't work, but virtually, at least 2.gif ),

    take care,

    Ren

    Technical Schulmania

Adventures with SC4 and Windows 7, 64 bit color and all that stuff...

    3fa1dcd43a66d-38-1.jpg

All sorts of oddities and drama have transpired after the sudden death of my computer and the launching of SC4 on a new and three generations newer computer. The vintage 2005 computer was on its last legs when a wireless router was added and it could not take it anymore. The proverbial straw that broke the cyber camel's back, if you will. So, in comes the new vintage 2011 computer, with its quad core processor, 64 bit graphics and Windows 7. Since this sudden transition, alol sorts of oddities, vagaries, glitches and mayhem has ensued in the world of Sim City and Schulmania.

The first problem was than over 150 plug ins disappeared, victim of a new, overly aggressive antivirus program which summarily dismissed them into oblivion without asking first. Then, washed out colors and large volumes of vehicles... vehicles visible through buildings. A host of other oddities started cropping up. When I saved tiles, the region view showed some odd colorations and borders. But the biggest problem was when a tile suddenly disappeared, leaving a big hole. Multiple attempts to copy over the tile from the now backup drive were unsuccessful. I gave u p and tried using an intermediary region to import the backup tile under various settings until I finally got it to not disappear. So, I built a new region, named Schulmania & Harar 2.0, and copied over every file and imported them. About 40 tiles in, it appears to be working. The pivotal missing tile has been saved for last. Keep your fingers crossed.

In the mean time, here's some of the mayhem and foolishness Sim City is dishing up for me these days. If you are using Windows 7, 64 bit color (set to 32 in SC4...) hardware graphic rendering, and so forth, have you seen any of this? And, anyone, do you have any suggestions? I am including a representative sampling of the problems with the exception of the region view picture. Any helpful advice on settings, tweaking, or anything else would be welcome.

So, without further ado, see what fun SC4 hath wrought (the pictures are not from Schulmania, but from an older region I use as a test area for stuff).

Hmm..I run SC4 on Windows 7, and I've never had any of those things happen in one of my games..However, I didn't import an old Region/HardDrive...

I think that may be just because of Windows 7 itself. I've read some where that SimCity 4 will work on Windows 7, but their will be a lot of screwups. That's why I'm glad I got Windows XP instead of 7 on my laptop.

I'm running SC4 on Windows 7 fine, no bugs at all. Have you tried running the game in compatibility mode?

    Yes, try the compatibility mode.

And the "ghost car", they always look like that when they're appearing/disappearing.

Here's a little extra bonus or 2 for you...

First, a paws up for Harar, which because it only has 6 votes, is currently the highest rated CJ in the new CJ section. I will savor it now before it gets voted further down...harar-is-number-1.jpg

And, here's a masterpiece of Feline Art... I created it yesterday at O'Charley's in Hickory. I have entitled it "Tom (ato) Cat" and it is an edible artwork in the medium of tomato and honey mustard on cheap porcelain plate.

    8fe2e253.jpg

And speaking of edible art, check out this chair I saw in the Hickory Furniture Mart...

    ab011406-1.jpg

And in other news, I am nearly finished Schulmania restoration. I have the one tile not quite right, but I am close to getting it at least there, even if it is not quite the right position (it seems to be offset somewhat). Then I can try to deal with all of these weirdo technical issues...

    Bon appetit!

I have to work hard to get back up to one post per day, so I will help swat the post bug. It appears there have been some MAJOR changes in Schulmania's life in the last year... I hope the bugs (here and in Schulmanator's computer) can be flattened and we can all get back to enjoying our this2.gif!

Wait, there's still a post bug, right? I didn't just imagine that?
