    Hi Dannibee,

Yes that's the "page flip" bug. it usually happens when the thread starts a new page (but not always). I had to post the two "page flip" entries in order to see your comment. I'll delete them later when the page is more complete but it's the only way to see a comment in such circumstances.34.gif

I felt a bit mean showing no picture last time so here is progress on the back of the latest lot. I managed to find a bit of time today to work on it.

It is details like this that make your BATs retain their superb quality over and over again.

    Update

Wow I didn't realize how long it's been since I posted. I had to suspend Batting for a while due to personal problems. But all is well now and I have resumed.

So I was working on lot 3 and making property 2.

    Front

    Back

    lot3prop2back.jpg

I'm not too happy with the roof texture of this new house but I am rapidly running out of quality new textures to use. A long while ago Simfox kindly gave me the grey roof texture you see on the first property. I haven't been able to make anything as good as this but I am weary of over using it particularly in one pack of houses. If anyone has anything to match the quality of Simfox's texture then I'd much appreciate it.

Time to make some props for this lot.

    Regards

Wow, all of these look so realistic and very British. Great work, I hope to see more of these on the STEX.

    Perfect British houses mntoes. 2.gif

But it's possible to make these in diagonal version ?

I hate roof textures; they're incredibly frustrating. The new texture you're using looks pretty good, I think, but it might work better if the individual tiles were a little more defined.

Dannibee Hi hope you are Ok  I've made a change to the texture as I wasn't happy with it. I think it looks better now.

Thomaskrules Thank you. I have more work lined up don't worry about that.

vivydu29 Thanks glad you like them. Diagonal ? Well not in this upload but I am aware there is demand for diagonal lots so who knows.

edmonton_stinks I agree, I hate roof textures they are so much a part of the Bat that can't be ignored for fear of spoiling an otherwise good model. Thanks for your comments. It's going to be hard to define the tiles more as I inherited the texture from Simfox and changed it to a brown colour. Could be a bit sharper yes but otherwise I don't wan't to tinker with it too much.

Gn_leugim Hello my friend and welcome back to the forums 9.gif  . You have not been around of late and I thought you were gone for good27.gif .  I trust it is just RL and that you are well.

    Picture of amended roof texture:-

De-saturated and lightened a bit. better?

Dropping in to say 'Hi' and see whats progressing with the project -then, I felt suddenly factious...

... I think its good improvement -yet the previous look wasn't that bad; but then again this good too, however...

    I'd keep it

    update... further inspection

I like the previous (redder-oranges it appears to be in it, giving it an unique look) look with the white house one better (there is a quality in the roof color-texture-saturation like better -wish I could spell it out better)

and like the present red/brown house version -the grayer looking shingles look better with the brick facade

However, the black-black background does mislead imagining them sitting on lots in-game... but they are your work and you will have to weigh out the results for own desired end, with what you've done in the past, I'm sure you'll find a happy medium or a new approach not yet thought of...

I hope that my 'muddy' musings were of some value,

    Jack

I like the improvements you have made.

To be sure if you are headed in the right direction, pop those renders into a SC4 shot. The black background is misleading enough as it is, good intended adjustments may, in fact, cause more harm then good if you don't know how it will turn out in game.

Lovely work regardless, maybe I'll model a lil' house one of these days 2.gif

    Thanks for all the replies.

Here is a quick update to show you one of the props I have had time to work on this week.

As you may have all guessed by now I like working on greenhouses so here is my second one for lot 3.

Hi Dannibee  yes, still going strong hope you have some more time to wait lol.3.gif

mattb325  Thank you, I'm glad you appreciate all the effort.

Talking of "delicate" here is the next prop.

A garden seat. Very hard to get rid of the "moire" effect with this prop because of the fine scale. In general though I'm quite pleased with it.

I might tinker with it a bit more but I think this prop is just about done.

    Hello all,

I'm back after a while (July). If i'm totally honest I kind of lost my way a bit on this project and became a bit bored with bating (tsk....tsk I hear you say.) I know, how could I say that?. Well as a result I have lost some files (but not too many)..phew!.

I have re-made lot one for Dannibee. (Sorry for giving-up for a while)

I need to ask a favour of someone. I would like someone to test the lot and adjust the values to appropriate ones. Power cosumned, ploution, residents etc. I have never been much good at deciding these values and I would like them to be correct for the lot size.

Once the lot is correct I will then be able to use that lot to make the other two.

    Any takers?

    Thanks

    Mntoes

Welcome back!  It's great to hear you haven't  given up!

Do you have Wouanagaine's Plug In Manager Extended (PIM-X) tool yet?  I haven't used it to release anything yet but it's my understanding that it creates realistic values for you almost automatically.  It has  lot editor contained within it too and it's easier to use than the basic one in my experience.

Personally, I hate lotting, so I can't help you there, but I think PIM-X should negate your need for a modder.

Hey take your time! No hurries!

I'm not too sure but maybe you could check it against a Maxis Residential of equal size and just use those values?

Thanks for still keeping with this though!

Thank you both for ypu replies.

Psander5, Thanks for the info (and the welcome back I'l)l check that out and give it a go.

Dannibee. Thanks for you understanding. Lot 2 is finished and I am working on the last lot now. I think I will give your idea a go untill I have learnt to use the PMI-X tool properly. No pictures yet I'm going straight back to work.

The "de-saturization" has made a big difference. It's better to be great with materials and lighting, have a limited understanding of primitives, splines and poly modeling, then the other way around. Your materials and lighting are improving dramatically. Nice job.

artist  Thanks for your kind words. It's taken me ages to get out of the habit of using too strong a texture and the "de-saturation" has as you said made a big difference. Always room for improvement though. Thanks again.

Gn_leugim  Is that a new title I see "Squadron leader" ? Very grand..lol..

If you are refering to the last prop it's a garden seat. I can't find the original picture but this one is similar:-

    imagesCAGKH5YX.jpg

I have had major problems with the third lot and Night lighting. The ....!!! thing would not light at all if the intensity was set at anythig less than 1.032.gif26.gif leaving the render nearly burning your eyeballs out.

It's taken 3 hours to sort it after countless atempts to fix the problem.

But I think I have found the problem at last.

I feel to be getting somewhere now.. phew.

    Regards

    Mntoes.

Good news - Lot 3 is now finished and all the lighting problems have been fixed.

Just to finish all the fine-tuning and all will be done.

    Please note

The car featured on this lot is not my work but is downloaded from Turbosquid. Thanks go to user Cholasimmons for his excellent work on this model, Cheers!

I have decided not to use the garden seat prop on this lot.
