    Excellent thread! Just two questions, my good man;

    1) If CXL becomes user modifiable, would you consider doing similar for that?

    2) Have you made any rough council estate type houses? Or redbrick town terraced houses with minimal yard/garden space? (I.e. 2565580379_6439c2870d.jpg )

    Keep up the excellent work!

    Hi Tuesday

Welcome to the thread glad you like it & thanks.

    1) I would enjoy doing the same for cities XL, but as we don't know how the custom content thing is going to work yet I am not sure if I will be able to. (Especcially if you need 3DS Max)  I am eager along with many to see what MC do in this respect...

    2) I have one council house in the pipeline (but it could extend to become another houding pack). I am not taking on any more work yet as I have so much unfinished work. I have a Victorian terrace bat uploaded on the Stex but I'm not sure if it is what you are after as the picture you link to is unavailable?

Hi petermakosch  sorry but this will for the moment remain a four pack. I have promissed Top_dog that I will try and finish this soon and I woild like to get it to him some time in the near future as he has been so patient. I will continue to update you all.

In this respect I am halfway through the lotting process.

Re; Q2, something along the lines of this, basically - Symons Street? Salford or something more along the lines of Council Estate to give my cities a "Wrong side of the tracks" kinda feel. More realistic if not everywhere's so quaint looking. 2.gif

I hope I'm not to late with this...

those are nice houses, however they suffer from one serious and unfortunately common problem. Look at those preview renders. day onese are so dark.. they don't really look like day. The shadow side is completely black - like a black hole. It only becomes more obvious once placed in game.

The reason for this is your oversaturated textures. you should both desaturated them by about30% and, perhaps brighten them as well. Alternatively you could simply heighten their gamma in photoshop. Roofs are particularly bad... nothing facing open sky should really be so dark, fade into such dark. There should be scene of weathering that commonly reduce saturation even more.

I took a liberty to make thise comparisions.  On the left originals, on the rihgt approximation of what I mean:

Simfox  Thanks for your suggestion and reminder.  I have read your comments on saturation in other threads, but  do I listen?... no ...lol. 9.gif

I have to agree with your posted example. A great improvement indeed 44.gif.  Phew! you are not too late for these. These are stacked-up with many other bats I have to finish. Thanks again for your valued input I will give this more attention in furure.

Tuesday  Like I say I have made one terrace block already so I wouldn't want to do another one for a while. The second one I may do sometime  but it will be a long wait.

    regards

Thanks my friend there is more to come.

Update  Lotting for all four versions is now done, a few tweaks with the stats and we are almost there.

    Pictures  Standard definition Front Day:-

    TopDogSetFRontDay.jpg

    Back Day:-

    TopDogSetRearDay.jpg

    Front Night:-

    TopDogSetRearFront.jpg

    Back night:-

    TopDogSetRearNIght.jpg

I have not re-adjusted the textures for these as per Sim fox's advice as I can not face re-rendering all of these and the High-Def ones as well. I think they look ok though and will follow his advice for the next batch.

Just awaiting a reply from Top_Dog to give these a street name and I can finish them.

    Regards

Yes I know what you mean, but I'm not fond of over-bright nightlights either. Perhaps i'll bump up the brightness the next time. Thanks for that point. 44.gif

Some great looking houses well done!

I agree with simfox on the roofs, but also with yourself in that these are still completely usable.

I am addicted to residential diversity, so I am adding you to my supplier list. 2.gif

i like your ideas and models mntoes! some authentic Anglo houses seem like a great idea.

in my perspective, nightlights on a suburban/semi-urban house or flat would be a little out of place. Nevertheless, i trust that you can pull off some great effects.

Maybe setting up the nightlighting to go on during dusk and turn off around ingame 9pm, if that's possible.

    keep up the great work!

    Thanks both for your comments.

thingfishs I better get making some more then..lol 9.gif

Liberater444 I wish that were possible but as far as I know the game mechanics won't alow it.

The above four houses have now been uploaded to the stex as "UK Polstain Road housing pack"

What was not included in the pack was a corner lot. I just want to test demand for this addition before I go any further.

My thoughts are for something like this to add a bit more shape to the lots rather than the standard rectangle. It would include two houses to acheive this.

    cornerlot.jpg

Thoughts please? Any demand out there?

Whenever someone offers an option for diversifying housing I always say yes! I think a corner lot would add a great deal to the standard set. Corners are essential for creating those typical UK estates... just like the one I used to live on!

    Hi Dannibee

Thanks glad you like the houses.

    Would yours be possible.?

Well yes if you can provide the address of the property (You don't have to give the number if you don't want to) So I can take a look from above on Google earth.

Do you have any more pictures?

Can you wait about 3 months or so? ( I'm not a fast Batter due to time constrains.)

    Let me know.

Gn_leugim Thanks my friend. I hear you on the corner lots and have to agree there are not enough.

PS can you do me a favour and remove the double post above it's kind of bugging me a bit. Probably happened when everything went slow. (11th posting this page)

    Regards

I'm getting deluxue Edition at Crimbo anyway.

Address is Huntfield Road in Bournemouth. Its one on the end.

     Update

For those of you that don't want to click on the link above this is the house that Dannibee requested me to bat for him.

    house2.jpg

This is what I have Batted so far. It is not yet finished but I thought I would give Dannibee a teaser of what is to come.

    (Shown in High definition)

    db2.jpg

There is more detail to add, also the back has not yet been started.  I have taken great care with the textures on this one (Simfox 2.gif)  Mumbles to himself (geez I hope this is an improvement..lol)

You will all have guessed that this will form part of my next housing pack so lots more work to do. This is quite good progress for me given the time I have available. (I wish I didn't get side-tracked into other projects ...lol I will work on some of the other unreleased bats as well.)

Regards and Happy Christmas to you all.     bells_1a.gif

PS Thank you once again for the Trixie nomination I will try to work harder to acheive an actual award next year.

Woah, I was not expecting that, this is Epic. I've just now got to figure out a way to stop Sim City 4 from crashing every 5 minutes.

Thanks Dannibee glad you approve. Hold back the excitement though, I have progressed well because I have been on holiday.  If I stick to the 3 month timescale then I will deliver you a housing pack.

Hope you get SC4 to work OK I know what a pain it can be. My game kept crashing on one city for ages and then  it fixed its self somehow?  Such it the way of computers. Have you tried searching here https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/categories.cfm?catid=24 I know this topic has been discused many times before.

Progress  Well back to work and a bit slower pace now i'm afraid.

I have been scratching my head trying to figure out what would be the best lot size for this property. The conclussion I came to would be that a 1.5 x 3 would be best suited to a house of this size and best matches UK property lots.  Seem as if you can't make a 1.5 x 3 lot I will put 2 houses on a 3x3 lot to achive the desired effect.  This is the most pleasing result of my trials.

The first lot is shown here with property one in place. I am now workiing on the second house to go on the right hand side of the lot. The green box in the middle will of course end up being a deviding fence.

Looks good, I finally figured out what was screwing up my game, just something to do with multi-core PC's. Looks like good progress to me.
