Not my home town but Dallas Texas down town seen from the convention center. You can see the  famous Mobil Pegasus on the right there.

This next one is rather interesting.  A couple of weeks ago, Minnesota experienced a dust storm from 40+ mph winds from the south.  With all of the farms from Iowa and Southern Minnesota, a lot of dust was picked up.  This is a picture of the haze from the dust.

I live in Overijse, a town in Belgium, near the Brussel Capital Region. It has around 24'000 inhabitants.

This is the town hall:

You should look for pictures of Sanatorium J. Lemaire, a wonderful modernist building that is horribly abandoned.

Bethesda and neigborhing Silver Springs are pretty interesting places by suburban standards. I love how in the DC and in Maryland instead of normal malls and office parks you guys have those awesome mini-downtown areas every few miles down the MARC and Metro lines. Just think that's neat. And they seem to be sprouting everywhere too, flying in a plane as it comes over the beltway you can see Reston and Rockville got big buildings, plus the Arlington Rossyln-Ballston corridor and perhaps someday Crystal City too.

Does this improve your daily routine any? Where I live it is steadily becoming a hassle to drive anywhere. Between having to navigate interstate feeder roads and traffic congestion its a pain, something locals who have been here(just a student) claim was never an issue just 10 years ago. I've always believed it would be worth it in the long run to just deal with mass transit schedules and build suburbs in that form instead, you know New Urbanism and stuff

Yea the DC area is actually pretty cool, especially Maryland (don't let Virginians tell your otherwise 3.gif). Each city in this area has its own downtown area, though we do have malls and office parks as well. In Maryland alone you have Silver Spring, Bethesda, Rockville and they all have their own downtown area. Downtwon Bethesda and Silver Spring are actually quite nice, with nice streets full of restaurants and lots of cool new development. The county (Montgomery County) has even planned to develop a new downtown area along the metro line between Bethesda and Rockville. I think this kind of development is far superior to average sprawl that you find across most of the US. It looks better, it works better, and people like it better, and economically it makes more sense. Around this area you can get anywhere with mass transit, even if you're deep into suburbia (though it might take a while).

My hometown (if by hometown you mean birthplace), where I spent the first two years of my life, Anchorage, Alaska (I think everyone has a general idea of what this amazing city looks like, so I'll just supply a map).Anchorage Map
I lived north of down town across from Point MacKenzie inland of the the shipping yards just off the north side of the highway.

This is where I live now, Belchertown MA. This view is standing on the town common looking southwest. This is my girlfriends church next to one of the billions of banks in our area.

This is Evergreen Colorado. 2 Miles from Suburbia (of Denver) There used to be nothing out there, now they are fixing to become a part of the suburbs. Right now they sit outside of town.

And my current place, once again, suburbia. (Fort Worth)

Santa Barabara Ca. viewed from the harbor.  The place of my birth and where I grew up until age 19.  Only thing I miss about this city of 85,000 are the beaches and weather.

My humble town of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA.

bridgestreet.jpg

This is looking west on the most popular street in town, Bridge Street. This town is a small ~20 - 30,000 residents. Also including the surrounding townships. How do you like our obnoxiously blue street lights?! 9.gif

Here is the townhall of my hometown Korneuburg, located along the river Danube at lower Austria (8 minutes by train to Vienna) The city has a population of about 14.500 people.

fotosapril2010065.jpg

That's something typical vor very old cities...

fotosapril2010068.jpg

That's a small bike and foot was that leads through the wet forest to the danube.... (The water below the bridge is a small side stream, the mainstream is about 400 meters away following the small street.)

fotosapril2010050.jpg

And that's a typical suburbia street (about 600meters away from my home)

OK, here is where I grew up.  Have a nice browse on this site.

You know, you can't go home again.  The house where I livied as a little kid is now a Wendy's and my elementary school is now a McDonald's.  The quiet street I grew up on is a tourist trap now, and has been upgraded to a four lane provincial highway.

The township has been incorporated into the city.

But, of course, you have to understand that I was in grade 1 in 1942, so things have changed more than a little.
