Smarty218:  Hey thanks a lot! I have never thought of my self as a "perfectionist".

dfnva:  Thanks!  I don't know.  Whatever lane is flowing faster is the "passing lane" but most of the time it is the left lane.

    Patricius Maximus:  Thanks a ton!

thinboy66:  Thanks so much!  Yes I did get your PM.  I already had the images, but thanks anyways!

un1:  Thanks!  I need an interchange like that because soon it may no longer be a rural area!

collgab:  I am glad you liked it!  Thanks for the comment!

mightygoose:  Nice to see you back here!  Pictures have been sent.

    Update time!

Thanks to everyone for the feedback!  I am glad you enjoyed the video!

This update will focus on some urban development.  My SC4 has crashed since my last (photo) update, so I have had to backtrack on the area near the RHW shift and station a bit.  However, developing this area a second time, I have decided to change a few things...

Thus, I have some before/after photos to show, as well as a new massive interchange on the outskirts of the urban area.

    Picture Information:

    NOTICE:  Please Read!

Before I post some pictures of my cities, please know that I strive for the best quality of my images possible.  Every picture from here on-in is not photoshopped in any way, and is taken directly from the game to show you exactly what I see in the game.  The only editing done is converting the .PNG file to .JPEG.

***IMPORTANT***    Also, please know that my pictures are COMPRESSED, and are NOT RESIZED! When you resize a picture, a ton of the image's quality is lost, and is shrunk to comply with ST's picture size limits.  Compressing the image retains the quality, but looks terrible when squeezed to comply with site limits.

But, I have found a loophole in this problem.  Each compressed picture displayed will be linked to the actual uncompressed, true image.  All you have to do to view the image in its FULL RESOLUTION (1920x1200) is to simply click on the compressed image displayed in this city journal (800x500).  The reason that the images are not 800x600 is because I present my pictures in widescreen (16:10 aspect ratio), making the image much more appealing for the human eye's stereoscopic vision.

If you have any questions or comments about how I display my images, feel free to post a reply.

Updated as of March 28th, 2008: All images hereon in are in a higher resolution! (1920x1200 instead of 1440x900).  Make you sure you click on 800x500 photos in the CJ to see them in excellent quality!

    Pictures:

Before.  Note the large rail crossing.

    TerranSettlement-Jan19281212871767.jpg

After.  A track was removed and an overpass has been constructed.

    TerranSettlement-Jan20281212875169.jpg

    Before.  Note the at-grade intersection.

    TerranSettlement-Jan23281212875207.jpg

After.  After seeing traffic increase when the area was developed, I decided to put in a 3/4 interchange while I still had room before I developed the area for the second time.  Those who want to enter the RHW northbound must access it it another junction either north or south of the station.

    TerranSettlement-Jan26281212875582.jpg

I have slightly modified this on-ramp, making it connect with the new RHW lane shift.

    TerranSettlement-Jan28281212875942.jpg

And now a look at the new massive interchange between the region's two major highways.  The main north/south and east/west highways are at least 10 lanes wide with a collector/express system and cut right through the heart of The Greater Terran Region.  The two meet here.

-Construction is also happening in the vicinity of the interchange.  (Image saved @ 100% quality, so it may take a while to load when clicked on.)

Anyways, thats it for now, but stay tuned for more!

    Best,

    -Haljackey

Nice showcase of the interchange through the video, I especially liked the use of the MIS U-turn lanes - a nifty idea I'll need to try sometime 9.gif

Will be hanging around for the next update!

    That's chaotic. Cool!

    It looks like Asphalt Spaghetti.

btw, I can't seem to find the euro textures for the RHW, yet you seem too have. Where'd you get them?

A very nice interchange. The second development looks better than the first one.

I like that 3/4 diamond and the RHW.

    Looking for more soon.

That's maybe the biggest, most massive interchange I've seen on ST with all those arteries coming together into one big nucleus. It put's VA's "Mixing Bowl" to shame. One can only hope the signage is good and well in advance of the junction. 4.gif

I never reply in CJ's, although I read them almost every day. But this time I have to post a message, what a great video have you maked! Really outstanding! I have one question though, what music is that? It sounds really cool and I would like to buy the album if there is one.

Wow! This is a great city journal! The city, highways, landscaping, terrain, everything looks great on this. I really liked your express/collector lanes. Del Sol County may need some of those! Keep up the great work.

etherian:  Hey, thanks a lot!  I needed the U-turn lanes to make U-turns for the video.

-UDI is what you make it.  I don't know why so many "trash talk" UDI.

Rictiovarus:  Chaos is always interesting, there is always something crazy going on!

-You can download the new RHW textures over at SC4D's LEX.  However, you need to register an account there before you can download anything.  Here is the link to the textures:

PT:  Thanks!  Glad you like it!

dfnva:  Its a huge one, I'll give you that!  The biggest?  I'm not so sure, but it's up there!  Thanks for commenting!

un1:  I am glad you do!  Its confusing from the air, but better at ground level.

Schulmanator:  Should we change the definition? 49.gif

Moby92:  A lurker comes out of the shadows?  Here?  Wow.  Thanks a lot for your comments!

-About the music, the song's name is called "Storming New Caprica" by Bear McCraney.  A lot of his music is included in the new Battlestar Galactica tv series, including this one.

OMG! First comment on this update! Wonderful! I see you are using the day-night mod as I am too. People say I can't see the pic, that's the point. It's night time. Nice update, give me about 3 months and GTR is going to have huge competition 2.gif

Those are some great night shots! I like how I can still see what's going on, as opposed to other night updates when it's just darkness, with some isolated lights in there.

I do have to say that the Day-Night Mod is only good in certain situations, I find that it dims the streetlights a little too much - wouldn't want to be a pedestrian under those conditions! The best image is the very first picture with the interchange and skyscrapers, enough light in the right places to really showcase the skyscrapers and clover interchange. Perhaps night shots of the Greater Terran Region's industrial sector would be better under the day-night mod? I especially like seeing the Maxis Oil Powerplant, those nightlights are quite stunning.

Well, With the Day-Night mod. I find it much more real and amusing, the Maxis lights are incredibly dim. The mod is in best combined with the Light Replacement Mod, I use the tannish lights which brighten it up a bit. That's my only advice.

    Update time!

Steering away from the night photos, lets have a look at a new city that is home to the region's main station.

    Pictures:

Click the images for full resolution!  See my picture information section on the first update of this page for more info.

A look at the zoned part of the city.  As you can clearly see, the station makes up a big part of the city's initial area.

    Witburg-May24041213297399.jpg

A look at a interchange that not only connects highway/highway, but also has direct links to the station.

    Witburg-May22041213297378.jpg

In the south, another station has been placed for commuters in this area.  Also note the RHW curve error there, it should be fixed in the next version:

    Witburg-May17041213294050.jpg

Here is a present shot of the city, now developing.

    Witburg-Mar25061213325418.jpg

And a zoom out of the city as it looks now:

    Witburg-Sep20061213325634.jpg

That's it for now, but more is to come!

    Best,

    -Haljackey

Nice ehhhhhh! I kinda sorta copied your Picture Information and copied to my standards. I couldn't reach you earlier due to some strange thing with the PM system. ??? It kept pulling up a code with all this HTML, and CSS style sheets. I just wanted to let you know! And here's a link to the light replacement thread at SC4D: https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=4432.0

Everything you need is in that thread.

Perfectly planned once again! I like the way you've connected the highways to the station; don't think I've ever seen an interchange like that before.

Hello everyone, I have been quite busy in RL recently but I do have some news about The Greater Terran Region.

I believe that I have that I have restored as much content as possible that was lost from the site outage. Much of the CJ has been restored, but there are some pages that are still messed up. This includes my 50th update special, my largest update and the one that took me the most time to prepare.

Anyways, I would like to pose some requests for you:

    1. If anyone, in any way, manages to grab a cached page of this update or others that are missing, please send me a PM so I can restore it. However, most page caches at this point are past the date of the site outage, and no longer appear. Hopefully, with a little luck, these updates may appear in a "way back machine" site.

    2. As you may know, my signature image is now out of date with the release of the new RHW textures. If there is anyone who would like to like to design a new signature image, please PM me. (I am not that good at photoshop.)

    3. As this CJ gets larger and larger, the "page flip" bug will occur more often. Instead of posting a "Page flip" post, simply enter the page number into your browser.

Example: This page's link is https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=36&threadid=95625&enterthread=y&STARTPAGE=25. Simply turn that "25" at the end of the link to 26 and you can then view page 26 without the page flip bug. (However, page 26 does not exist at this time )

Anyways, a new update will be coming soon! I will respond to the above replies at that time.

    Best,

    -Haljackey
