First post for me here!

I like building regions where the car is the preferred method to go around, but I always had some issues with traffic on main highways. Many people get stuck on them while going to work, even after have increased the network capacity, so I came up with this little thing. (I don't like the RHW so I used the original highway pieces)

rampe.png

these are the ramps to get in the highway, please don't take care of the surrounding buildings, I just made the network in a blank city

they are also useful for U turns for those people that are already in the highway

cambiosenso.png

once in a while there are these things, they allow people to go to the other highway because exit ramps as you've just seen are only in a direction, so if you're driving on the right highway you'll get out on the right side of the city, if you're on the left highway you'll get out on the left part of the city. They allow U turns too.

interchange.png

and this is how a crossing highway connects to the two-highway system. I know, traffic can't go to the left, but the ramps you saw on the previous picture help a lot

traffic improved a lot because it incredibly distributes itself on the two highways, bridges that allows people to make the U-turn are a little bit overcrowded but it could be improved. The commute distance is also not too much longer than usual. How is it in your opinion?

Cool concept, though I prefer to clutter my cities with bus stops. I <3 buses!

Why, thank you :D

All the houses you see in this picture (or most of them, anyway) I have lotted myself. But I got the models from various japanese sites (also a few from the LEX). They are mostly made by the japanese bat'ers Kei, Kori and Somy.

That was all the links I could find in a hurry. Now I'm off to the university.

Ah, _marsh_, we don't expect anything but beautiful work from you! What water mod is that? (Or is it photoshopped?)

Nothing special, I just liked the way the maxis highway steps up as it climbs the hillside beside the buildings.

Shadow Assassin: we call those highway connectors "police traps" here in Utah, haha.

Mrtnlrn: I'm loving your first picture and how you perfectly gradient a busy highway into a suburb. I would hate living with a highway in my backyard, but you make it look like a pleasant area to live.

This forum is great for inspiration!

I agree with Azurespector, mrtnrln - your highways look so realistic. I will definitly be trying some of your ideas in my cities. It looks great :)

I almost exclusively use RHW for my highways, so Maxis Highways (MHW) are a dying breed. Nevertheless, there are rare situations where they are suitable. Recently two such instances have emerged, and these are my first new MHW sections in about a year.

First is a new MHW bridge that carries a large volume of traffic across a river - this is part of a longer RHW-dominant road:

151ea11f.jpg

The second new road branches off from an earlier MHW ring road (built last year) and services an older town, connecting it with a new urban center. A partial Y interchange starts a parallel surface road that provides access to the town and is the town's main avenue:

1-1422.jpg

This access is essential because the new freeway tunnels under the old development in town:

2-2427.jpg

This surface street connects to another freeway via a SPUI interchange, oddly enough:

3-523.jpg

This is when the main street leaves town:

4-183.jpg

And then the surface street reconnects with the main freeway:

5-135.jpg

Further on than this the MHW is converted into an RHW freeway.

In the future, we will have this as a suitable replacement:

rhw-6s_cs_bridge_inuse.jpg

But that depends on how quickly we can get the next NAM ready (and don't expect it to be ready within a month)

Best,

Maarten

That's a beautiful bridge, and it would make a useful addition to everyone's freeway systems. MHW bridges are of only limited utility.

Hey, not quite sure what this interchange is called but i'm just going to call it a collector freeway cloverleaf. Its situated in an undeveloped area in the outskirts of the big city where 2 rhw's meet. Sorry for the quality
