Well, like a few other people I've got a copy of SCS to see just what Tilted Mill have come up with and have now had a few days to get a feel for how the game works.

I'll save my views on the game until later posts, but here's a couple of pics from Sleaborough to get things started.

That's all for now  - more tomorrow.

Without bashing the game, the maker or the publisher (that's for another forum and there are plenty of those) I have to say that the first pic is one of the best images of the game that I've seen so far, Did you photoshopped? or is an actual in-game picture with no retouching? I'll keep an eye on this CJ and will see what the game can do.

The first image is slightly photoshopped.  I've given the brightness an 'S' curve to increase contrast slightly and I've desaturated the colours by about 20%, but other than that it's as it came out of the game.

Most of the look comes from the in-game lighting which is pretty good.  Expect some really nice shots from people with high-end graphics cards.  I'm running the game on medium settings which is all my machine can handle.

Well the gameplay and a couple of other aspects leave a lot to be desired, but for plopped eye-candy cities SCS offers quite a lot of potential.  Unfortunately for EA and Tilted Mill, I suspect Monte Cristo will have them beaten on graphics and gameplay.

From the Sleaborough photographic archive ...

Yeah, I was thinking this looks much better than some other pictures represent it. The third picture even looks realistic....

Returning soon[ish] from a long time away...

By default the roads change texture according to which theme you are building (or which 'energy' is dominant).  The XML files allow you to easily change things so that you can have all textures available at once.  The width is also easy to change in the XML files.

Unfortunately, so far there's still no diagonals or driving on the left.

I'm hoping that you can match vehicles to roads as that opens up some interesting possibilities.

No posting without a picture, so ...

Great two pictures! The dirt road looks good and I like that billboard a lot.

That BP garage looks quite cool. Was that available in game, or was it a model imported into the game?

bbfan02 - The billboard is pretty cool - its animated too.  The panels making up the ad rotate to display another one every so often.

Clubberdude1981 - The BP service station is in the game (we can't import new models yet) and it is definitely one of the better models in SCS.

crazyarchitect - It would be funny if BP have paid money to be in the game as that service station looks like a prime candidate for reskinning.

Someone has already released a "No BP logo" pack where they've whited out all the BP textures :-P

City looks good - romantic theme? Or have you unlocked the roads somehow?

There's a mod over on the Tilted Mill forum that unlocks all the road styles (the cobbled one I'm using is contemplative)

Talking of mods - I've just created my first.  The car has been turned into a paintable ambient, which means that it can be plopped pretty much anywhere and at any angle.  Very useful for parked cars.

And as (I think) any model can be made an ambient, then any object can be plopped at any rotation.  Ambients aren't functional though.

    SCS freely ploppaple cars ...

Wow, that looks wonderful! SCS actually can look great, especially when we can start making some new buildings for more variety. Gorgeous!

Not until they give more transportation options (and diagonals, of course).

At the moment I think City Life 2008 is potentially the better 3D city sim - there is greater building variety and roads are infinitely better - though I'd obviously need play it to make a proper judgement.

ccecill - Ploppable cars... but no interstates. *sighs*quote>

Well, you can have as many lanes as you want, with whatever textures you want - you just can't have any bends or sensible intersections!
