Thanks very much diamonddog_74--yes, I agree.  For a science fictional city that 'glass curtain' look is okay, but not so much for what I think of as realism.

1994--you might like a mod that you can get from the STEX (sorry don't have the link handy) that adds a white plaza underneath raised rail wherever there are commercial zones adjacent to the rail (as you have a lot of).  It gets rid of that annoying empty look under the rails and gives it a much more 'urban' look.

Edit: I was wrong, this is at the LEX at https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1423--nice little mod.

Thanks for the response 4.gif .

BTW, Josh6, your city looks OK, but your road connections looks messy.

Skitzo87, your city looks more like usual SC4 cities I've seen in YouTube to me.

@zurrabear: hmm... I can't seem to download anything at LEX. Did you have to register to download them?

Yes; but it's well worth your time to do so.  SC4 Devotion has tons of high quality custom content (as does this site).

Wow!! Great shots everyone!! I'm getting some great designs for my own city.

@ Bristore: Can you tell me where you got that spiral building in the 1st pic and also the taller one in the 2nd pic that's to the right of the Empire State Building?

Here's one of the cities I'm currently working on, Port of Nibiru, a city of about 50,000 Sims. It's a bustling port of entry not only for imported goods from other SimNations, but also for cruise ship voyagers. The city features lots of shopping and nightlife, as well as beautifully landscaped parks on its terraced slopes offering great views of the harbor and the city.

The city is also accessible via intercity passenger rail at Central Station. Because of its limited available land, it does not have its own airport, but flyers can land in neighboring South Nibiru via Nibiru International Airport which links to the passenger rail network. I'll post that city in the future. I'm considering doing a CJ of the region.

Currently, Port of Nibiru is a medium density city, but if the demand for housing and work remains at the high level it is now, we'll be seeing taller highrises in the near future.

Different shots of downtown, don't know how to insert text between each shot so overview is, tallest building is Transamerica Pyramid at 853ft.

There's a busy pier with carnival rides and indoor sports arena,

City hall is between at&t building (5th tallest, 677ft) and 555 California St (4th tallest, 779ft),

The two main park/plazas are the butterfly park and the column, two major malls (cali plaza, living mall) are on the coast,

there is new development along the wharf, spear headed by One Canada Square (3rd tallest, 800ft), and just inland of it is the "historic" area (og downtown), including the Paris theatre.

My downtown is almost all plops from stex, kinda ridiculous how talented and detailed some of the people on this board are with their buildings, better than maxis.  Pics dont do it justice, for some reason the buildings are all slightly elongated compared to the actual game

Very cool, nas786. Great job. I love the waterfront.

Hey, what is the tall, thin white tower two buildings down from your Column of Heroes? You show a close-up of it in your sixth screenshot. I don't think I've seen it before.

BTW, I use Photobucket as the host for my photos. You can pretty much use any external site (including your own personal site, if you have one) to host your photos, and then link them via the "Insert/Edit Image" tool in the message toolbar.

Thanks!

I'm downloading it as I type this. Too bad it's just eyecandy (no jobs). It's quite nice though.

Great JOb everyone! They look awesome!

zoa12, there is a double post rule, where after you post, you have to wait for someone else to post before you can. It think it is two posts. Next time, be sure that is you need to add something after you post, just use the edit post button.

And, I have a little suggestion for zoa12, also. In one of the first pics, the RHW and the MIS toward the bottom of the pic don't match. MIS(Modular Interchange System) can be dragged in any direction. This will make your RHW look better. But in the picture it looks nice, as does the CBD. Good work.

Skitzo87, your city looks great! A perfect balance of Maxis and Mod. Well done. Also, the stadium looks good there. But in the third picture, in the right hand top corner, there is a TON of repitition. You can fix that by keeping one or two and destroying the rest. Than you can plop something in there, such as a STEX building or a Maxis landmark.

Finally, fafalone, wow! That is amazing! It looks very professional. But a suggestion I have for fafalone is that there is a lot of green space around the highway. And i mean blank space. Not parks. I see there are no roads in there but you could fill it up, even with something as simple as a plaza there. Or, if you use the NAM, you could use a pedmall and make  a row of shops on it. The pedmall acts as a non driveable road, so workers can not get to it, but the buildings don't go abandoned. JB's Small Town USA series would look nice in that space. But a spectacular city! Same to all of you here! Great job and sorry about the long post.

See ya,

No pics show up, CitizensUnited. Try hosting your photos on Photobucket and link to them.

More shots of various areas around the region are available in my city journal (see signature below).

Four questions:

What mod do you use to make the water look so clear?

Will some of those big buildings in the download get built as a city grows or are they mods?

How do you deal with the power demands of such a large city, do you use neighbor deal?

How do you lay out/deal with your populations transportation needs, in terms of subway, roads, monorails, ect?

Thanks! I actually found the Maxis ballpark to be one of the nicer buildings included with the game. I'm only aware of one or two MLB-sized custom stadiums (both of which I have), and I couldn't  find a good place for them in that area.
