Map of Vanzaverde, a medium-sized city with 125.000 inhabitants. It's CBD is divided in two parts, coloured up in orange. The red blocks are important buildings: landmarks, school, city hall, etc.

San Antonyo Plaza.

The businessdistrict with some officeblocks. Accountants, insurance compagnies, etc. are settled here. I declare often C$$ historic. C$$$ always shut out C$$, and that's a pity. Even if C$$ offers more jobs.

In the North- West corner are governmental buildings, like the city hall, court house, and Public Library. The stock Exchange has to be build here...

Well basically the parts you cant see is farming, RHW, and small towns.

I plan in realism, and hand terraform all my maps.

What is the tallest skyscraper (as of the rush hour expansion, with absoloutely no mods or downloads) that you can get??

The tallest I've ever gotten were Simon and Frank Associates, Khoury Art Foundation Building, and Barthelet Corporation.

I have excellent demand and desirability. The cities around it (As well as the core city itself) has around 600 thousand people, around 50,000 commercial jobs (i know, not that many) and the entire region has 1.7 million people.

I don't know what to do next to get tall buildings in my core city. Should I zone more land, or, if they really want to, will skyscrapers eventually "buy out" land and build over smaller structures because of demand.

I've got police stations out the wazoo (like kiosks every few blocks), so crime has pretty much been eliminated in downtown (0-3 crimes a month in downtown), plenty of fire stations (although i dont have the landing strip, should i build it?), 180 education level, high tech industry, solar power plants, a highway, elevated rail, buses, subways, plazas and parks covering the empty spaces in downtown, the art museum and the main library.

I have downloaded the NAM and am playing with simulator z ultra. I can't seem to get many customers (it always says low). is this due to the simulator? So commutes are pretty much taken care of.

The only problem I know I have is garbage: I have a garbage to electricity power plant thingie, but I reduced the funding to 0 so that it gets rid of the trash without polluting. Is this adequate for trash, or should I consider making a city that can export trash. I have minimal amounts of trash, but I would think the land value has to be ASTRONOMICAL for huge towers to move in.

Also, should i build an airport, or an opera house and stadium in the downtown area? Do those even help?

Pitt-Fan:  Hopefully I can assist you in some of your questions you have. Some of the tallest buildings in Sim City 4 include "Hurt Enterprise Headquarters", "Pedriana Pharmaceuticals", and "Cahalene Communications". There is a whole list of the buildings in Sim City 4 Rush Hour, listing their tilesets, stage number, and capacity HERE

Even though you have incredible demand, civic coverage, and good funding, you still may not get the tallest and wealthiest of towers in your city. Make sure that your inner city has a lot of parks because desirability plays a huge factor in city development. Sims will not move or work in areas that are polluted and undesirable. Also I see that you have a power plant in the big city. Power plants and dirty industry can cause pollution and undesirability. The land value does need to be high for the nicer taller towers to appear, so make sure you create separate areas for your dirty industry and power plants. Make sure you export garbage and keep pollution down! Hope this helps.

As far as the rewards go, definitely supply an Opera House and or stadium in your inner city. They act as landmarks and can attract Sims to move in or work nearby. As for an airport, you can certainly build one as it will increase your commercial demand. I would suggest NOT building the airport in the inner city though as it could bring air pollution. Also most airports in game are pretty big so that would take away more land for you to build on.

I hope this post is helpful to you! 4.gif

Nice job Mike, not many people understand that solid skyscrapers aren't realistic (even if the care about realism.) Good variety too.

Great pics, everyone! I think that it's always fun and interesting to see BATs that were posted only days ago in people's pics. Everyone around here works so fast to incorporate them into their cities.

deedeedee; Great use of trees. It's good to see so much open/natural space in such a big city.

CraigKingOfIreland; Awesome pic as usual!

ironicepitome; You know. I've already commented on that pic in another thread. Oh what the heck, I'll reiterate. Awesome!

Mikeaut1; Very nice. I think the city center looks very realistic. I don't mind the Maxis content so much, probably because I still use quite a bit myself. The repetition of ... what is that... Ngo Manor? Anywho, the repetition takes away from the realism a bit... but it is still a very nice city.
