I don't have a good image of my overall downtown, so I decided on a close-up of City Hall Park, at the intersection of Broadway and Federal Avenue, the very center of the largest city in my region, Arcadia.  I fiddled with the curves tool in Photoshop until I got the light I wanted, distorted the perspective, and then flipped it all horizontally for fun.

City Hall Park -- Dawn

Included in the picture, clockwise from the left: City Hall (Buffalo City Hall, sergeantcm), the Key Tower  (Equinox), the Arcadia Inquirer Building (Detroit Free Press Building, jasoncw), ArcTrans headquarters, formerly Iverson Tower (Smith Tower, Maxis), Arcadia Stock Exchange (Odeon Theatre, Porkissimo), Rose Valley County Municipal Building (Eliel Saarinen Chicago Tribune Competition Entry, prepo), First National Tower (oneil), Wren Insurance (Maxis), Tower Life Building (Odainsaker).  The park itself is sergeantcm's Niagra Square, and the stoplights are by Heblem.

More fun with the perspective tool:

Central Arcadia

Breaking suspenstion of disbelief for a moment, the city is still a work in progress.  I have a few homebrew mods at work to fill the patchy green area to the lower left with marcszar's Brooklyn rowhouses (available on the LEX), and the open green area along the right and right-bottom edge is slated to be filled with BCS modular parks.  Also, I hate the Bell Towers, for reasons which should be obvious.

Back in tour guide mode, this is a wide-angle shot of the entire Central Arcadia area and its surrounding neighborhoods.  Above it, alongside the river, is University City.  To the lower left is Federal West, bottom center is the exclusive Cathedral Square neighborhood (you can just make out the cathedral between the Ryan Apartments and the bottommost instance of Bell Towers).  Right of Cathedral Square, including the major league stadium, is Parkside.  The far right is Rose Park, a huge urban park about the side of a single medium city tile.  Included in Rose Park, along the river, is the Sheffield Recreation complex.  The boulevard through the park is Monument Avenue, the stone arch bridge is the Monument Bridge, and the square is Republic Square, named in honor of the Union victory in the Civil War.

And now, a night shot:

Central Arcadia at Night

Not much photomanipulation here--just a horizontal flip, a sharpen, and a darken with the curves tool.  This part of the city is substantially complete, barring another skyscraper or two to meet additional CO demand.  I'm not much of a fan of skyscraper forests, so further growth will be outward into satellite cities and suburbs.  I think I might add some spotlights to the obelisk in the park in the Lot Editor as well.

Here's one of my downtown (as always, click to see in full resolution!)

CBD.jpg

This one is finished ... unlike my earlier posting of a lot of construction. 9.gif

And here is what I call my "CRD" "Central Residential District"

Residential.jpg

It's located right beside the CBD, although if you want you can always BTM/bus/subway/drive there. Besides, with the buildings so high, it looks as tall as the CBD.

Amazing downtowns everyone!

I would post mine, but it's just a dozen of those darn Wren Insuraces at the moment, but when it's done there will be more variety.

There's a mod called go away wren for that. Check in the mods section of STEX. Plus download more BATs. More bats generally means less repitition.

Another night shot of Central Arcadia, this time without the orientation flipped (but still some chicanery with the perspective tool):

I downloaded that a long time ago, but it didn't seem to make a difference. And I am downloading more BATs; I just downloaded a whole bunch, but I haven't tested them in my city yet. I might just bulldoze most of the Wrens and see what happens.

I've found that if you have enough downloaded CO$$$ BATs and you're ruthless enough with the bulldozer, Wren Insurance isn't much of a problem. It's a shame it's so aggressive, really. It's probably my favorite Maxis building--a graceful, slender, and restrained Gothic Revival (it is possible for Gothic Revival to be restrained?) tower that blends in well with the cities I like to build. It's just when you get 30 of them, the charm wears off.

Remember guys, please refrain from being rude or harsh and give constructive criticism instead. Thanks. 4.gif

I have an old CBD to show from a city (Everett) that I had built in 2007.

I really like what you have done Mike. The downtown is great and the map is impressive. The neighborhoods around downtown look good as well. I hope to see more.

Nice picture, thepokemaniac--I really like that open space.

Here's a view of my main town, San'tessana--built around a mostly early 20th century look.">

wow great downtowns everyone.

here's the seaside downtown of Fremont. The main cbd is a couple of kilometres further inland and provides almost 1 million jobs.
