I have tried looking for a slope mod, but i haven't been able to find one specifically... What do you use? Could you send me a link?

Unfortunately everyone, like Scotty said, SimFox never actually completed the Russia Tower BAT. A shame really, so the only option there was, was to PS into the picture. :P

Well, it looks like I have work to do! Fox has given me a couple of reference pictures. If anyone else has any more references of SimFox's work, feel free to PM them to me! I'm about to model out the tower (and actually complete it!) since SimFox has meandered away from the community.

The best I can give you of SimFox's Russia Tower are these picture references you'd probably already have :P

Reminds me of the only skyscraper in North Korea.

Which probably is long over due for a BATed version on SC4. :P

Working on this. Idea is to have a clear seperation between the "old" CBD and the modern CBD, with a few modern skyscrapers in the old CBD.

Those curvy roads don't make a lot of sense in the old CBD.

They do and they don't, Neb. Most planned cities (IE New York and Washington DC) have grid-like or organized roads. Much older cities (IE London, Paris, Boston ect) have much less straight lines, and just grew from small settlements.

Wonderful CBD, smf_16, really beautiful! But I agree with Nebuchanezzar about the curvy roads in the old CBD.

Well thanks for the compliments :) Like Dat said, the curvy roads are to deflect that - at least this part of the city - has grown naturally from an old settlement. Also, i found that using an anti-grid results in a more diversified skyline, as you can't simply build all 4x4 or 5x5 300 plussers. You're forced to be a little inventive.
However, maybe you're right that they look a bit odd.. Perhaps because that part was the very first part I built and therefore still lacking experience.

EDIT: I modified my old CBD a little bit and removed the most odd looking curvy roads. Looks way better in my opinion. What do you guys think?

By the way, thanks for pointing that out, thanks to that I made the improvement :)

Nice CBD. A bit regular and irregular layout. Some closely packed and some open space.

But they look awesome and that's what counts.   ;)

Really though, once you get outside North America, grid-breaking downtowns are pretty common.

We've got two great examples here in New York and Boston. Most of Manhattan is a grid, but Downtown is just a spider web of roads from the original Dutch village that was the start of NYC.

Mostly because North Korea ran out of budget to build the huge spiky thing that looks like a death ray, they call it a skyscraper,

I come from Sydney so I've certainly got a handle on how old cities don't necessarily adhere to a grid. :P My comment was not so much about curvy roads not working period. Rather, I was suggesting that in SC4, those curvy roads don't make sense. They might work in real life, but not here.

In old cities (Sydney, Boston, Lower Manhattan), the buildings face the street, no matter the orientation. That's mostly impossible in SC4. I would suggest only using diagonals when you can make proper use of them with diagonal BATs. That would look convincing. Building a downtown with parks in the gaps between FARs and diagonals looks terrible, and exposes the limits of the game. Imo, a realistic old downtown can only work within the limits imposed by the game.

Suggestions:

1. As I said, use diagonal streets only when they can be surrounded by sensibly oriented buildings.

2. The leftmost diagonal bridge could continue to the avenue. You could line that diagonal road with diagonally oriented buildings perhaps?

3. I'd take the right hand side of the Old CBD back a bit, so the park at the end of the peninsula is a little bit bigger.

I could be a fool, but that's the direction I'd be heading in if that were my city.

To an extent. I feel though that even if your buildings are orthogonal, you could help break the look by filling in your spaces with small filler buildings. If you place a 1x2 filler in the gap between your 4x4 building and the FAR, it makes the road stand out less.

PS: I don't get how you guys know how to get around with your roads. Melbourne grid = super simple.
