I think it's supposed to be one of, if not the, biggest building in America in terms of land area.

This is looking great Oppie! Can't wait to see this one finished!

WOWIE!  I think there have been a couple of attempts to do the Pentagon, but this is the closest I've seen it come.  If anyone can do it, it's Oppie.  I live in the DC Metro area and drive by the Pentagon all the time, so it'll be great to see it in my SimCity as well, not too far off from Rubik's WTC complex!

I didn't know, that you can get so detailed aerial photos of political buildings like the pentagon. That's an awesome zoom level!

Just a note simpleplan, that one pic you have there is a little way too big, you may want to resize it to a max of 800*600 2.gif

    Update time!

The inner courtyard is pretty much finished. I would add some more trees if it weren't for the fact that these few trees are already bogging down the render speed a lot. The walls still look a bit dull but I'm sure texturing will solve that problem. <ahttp://img191.echo.cx/img191/3128/pentagon128in.jpg align=baseline>

...and speaking of texturing, earlier on I said I wouldn't start on the wall texture before the model was finished. Well, I recently realised that because of the pentagon shape I couldn't just slap a box UVW map onto the entire thing as I usually do. So I'll have to UVW map every wall seperately, something on which I've now started. Compare the picture below with one of my earlier preview renders and you'll agree that the textured version looks even more realistic.

Yea Oppie! It now looks more realistic! BTW, if u noticed, 2 sections of the roof of the Pentagon are black in colour.  Great job through! 44.gif

IIRC it's the largest office building in the world that only leases office space to one corporation (other companies do exist in the pentagon, as there's, a bank (or was it two banks?), food court, etc.... They just don't have office space)

In the middle of the Pentagon Inner Courtyard there is a Gazebo with a snackbar, If you really want to know.

    2.gif Little insider information.

Yup. I have to say I was actually dissapointed to see that the BAT doesn't have it in right now, as the gazebo amuses me, as it has a cool story: (possibly apocryphal)

During the cold war the Soviets had their version of bunker busting nuclear warheads pointed at the Pentagon, of course. Their intel sattellites could see the roof of the gazebo but not what, exactly it is. Being Soviets used to places of power go in the center architecture, they assumed that the building in the center of the courtyard must be the entrance to the central command center, with an underground elevator to the secret bunker underground. They therefore pointed all their missiles at it in order to achieve maximum penetration into our command center in the even of a nuclear war.

They were quite embarrassed after the Cold War when the realized that had millions of dollars in nuclear weapons pointed at a hot-dog stand. It just hadn't occured to them that the US would make the very center of its military headquarters building a little park for employees to relax and eat lunch and whatnot (not exactly the kind of facilities one might expect as a Soviet conscript :P).

Anyway... Keep it up. As I now live in the district I drive by the sucker every day (and my dad worked in it on 9/11), so I'd love to have it in as a super-reward. :D

Maybe it could even eventually get tied into the regional tracking mod: If you have enough military facilities in your region (Peg naval ports, AF bases, Army bases, Missile silos, etc) you can earn a Pentagon reward, which should create an ENORMOUS boost to any city, as it employs about a jillion people. 1.gif

    Though as a quick question:

Is the plan to include the subway station and bus terminal that exist as part of the real Pentagon? Also, will the final model include (at least part of) the sprawling parking lot, or pretty much just the building itself? 1.gif

Wow! The inner courtyard is just awsome!!

Guinnessmonkey: Great story about the hot dog stand.

But... Would it matter where they pointed their missiles?
The world would not exist today if they were launched...

LOL, after that story I'll just have to change the statue into that gazebo. 18.gif

About the subway station; a lot of people asked me to include it so I probably will

I think the idea about this regional tracking stuff and making the Pentagon a super-reward for military facilities is not a bad idea at all. If a school employs some civiv workers, couldn't the Pentagon be modded to employ a gazillion of them? I mean, categories like CS or CO for the Pentagon sound a bit cynical to me... 9.gif

Oppie this looks stunning! I am thrilled your making this thing. I don't know if you have noticed but I threw together a little military project, well its not little anymore. We where thinking about making the lots a part of a reward chain so maybe the Pentigon could be used in conjunction to that chain. Would be really cool.

No reward chain with the Pentagon. Please. Just a standalone landmark with and without jobs would be great.

The idea of linking this into a military reward chain sounds good to me.

I have a question, does anybody know what happened after the 9/11 crash, was the damaged part of the buiding rebuilt? and if so how quick was it done, you don't hear a great deal about that.

The damage section was rebuilt within a year.  It wouldn't surprise me if someone attempts to make a version of the Pentagon with the damaged section in the future but it might upset some people since it opens up old wounds.
